here in the land of oz we're enjoying watching our expert commentators, roy slaven and h g nelson, bringing the winter olympics to us on the seven network.
if you guys and gals can catch it, it's worth it, even to see what the sydney olympians enjoyed in 2000.. already they have given expert commentary on the figure skating events.. do you know what these expressions in figure skating mean:.
staining the ice?.

i'm not really sure if i have the right to spectulate about this or if i'm just being paranoid.
but why does it seem that some of the posts lately are being made by--false prophets??
it seems to be an odd similiarity to some of the posters and it's just been "urking" me lately.
Bualbee,
If you are in all way concerned due to the thread to Simon posted by myself, please do not be.
This was a joke amongst a lot of well-known people. Not trolls, lurkers, ect.
It was all in good fun, nothing else...and you were not around at the time, so I hope the thread didn't give you the impression of many of us having multi ID's....we don't...it was something else entirely...
Hope this adds a little comfort,
Ana
leave me alone...a survey.
ever since i released the news about the island project im working on, a lot of my online friends have told me that they would probably go crazy if they found themselves on an island.
maybe they are right but ive been wondering ever since just how much interaction people really enjoy with others in their life.. i know im an introvert and enjoy spending a lot of time by myself but i also enjoy spending some time with others as well.
1. Do you enjoy having a lot of friends to interact frequently with face to face?
No, not at all. In fact I recently through a period of getting rid of unwanteds that just needed constant attention! I now only socialize with a couple of people that I really like, and like me.
2. Not counting your sleep time, how much time do you typically spend with others each day?
Can be up to 4-8hrs, other ocassions none...depends on whats on that day...
3. What is the ideal amount of time each day you would like to interact with others face to face?
Maybe 2 hrs, but not people I know. More likely go out for a coffee and people watch.
4. How long do you have to be by yourself before you feel lonely?
Providing I can go out....I would never get lonely....I could easily be a hermit.
5. Do you enjoy interacting with people each day or would you rather just hang out with people for a longer period like during the weekend?
No, I don't enjoy it. Weekends would be preferable, but this all excludes a partner.
Ana...who thinks there is a huge difference in being alone and being lonely.
for every person, there seem to be things they just don't understand.
for me, it's nationalism in more than homeopathic doses.
i wouldn't have expected to meet that much nationalism on an ex-jw board, but then, life holds many surprises.
Lol's@Ozz,
Fodeja,
Having lived in a lot of countries in the world, and having visited USA, I will not answer your post question by question, but I will say this-:
Live where you love, and love where you live!
No, USA is not the "best" in the world, neither is it the worst. Amazing gave a fine example of "elitism". That is what hits me full in the face with the USA. It can appear to come across as "we are better than them" attitude. Yet, I have many USA friends that I love dearly.
UK is very beautiful; the people warm and friendly....
Australia is wonderful, much like USA but without such crowds....
Paris is not all it is made out to be, but is still a wonderful place.
Italy is divine..
Russia...and surrounding countries are cold and opressive, and yet the people have a warmth that is seldom found elsewhere..
The list could go on.....
Just love your homeland, but to anyone....it's never the "best" place on earth, it's your home! Which makes it the "best", but "only" to YOU!

surfing around and i came across an interesting site that explains all those little "buzz words" that we love to hate....an example.... in the truth .
the state of being a dedicated, baptized servant of jehovah.
<<how long have you been in the truth?>> <<i have no fleshly relatives who are in the truth.>> (see also {truth}.
LB,
Oh yes!! I had forgotten that one
Sort of elitist behavior, hmmm???

i see that there is a plethera of jws here that have left the fold, maybe after reading some of these posts.
is there anyone here that was not a jw, but is now after visiting here?
mn.
Hi Outonalimb,
I can't really say. I don't think any of us can. But I have an idea where you are coming from.
Some have thought of going back, but from those I know, they have never followed it through.
Sorry I can't help more.

in the TruthAnd two of my all time favorites,
The state of being a dedicated, baptized servant of Jehovah. <<How long have you been in the Truth?>> <<I have no fleshly relatives who are in the Truth.>> (See also {Truth}.)
NOTE: The phrase does not intend to imply anything about how well a person might be doing in the Truth. <<So you've been in the Truth for ten years, huh? But how long has the Truth been in you?>> An admittedly cheeky question.
bad association
1. A scriptural phrase denoting persons whose beliefs and conduct are contrary to the Bible's standards, and who might influence Christians to follow a similar standard. (1Co 15:33)[33] Everyone who is not a servant of Jehovah is potentially bad association. It is also true that not everyone in the congregation is automatically {good association}. Note that Paul's words originally applied to some anointed Christians within the congregation in Corinth. (See {associate}.) 2. [obs] Formerly, unbaptized {associates} of the congregation who were {publishers} were treated in much the same way as those who are baptized. When such a person was found to be unrepentantly guilty of {wrongdoing}, he was dealt with in a manner essentially the same as {disfellowshipped} persons. Instead of announcing that the person was disfellowshipped, a notice would be read that he was to be regarded as bad association. When we realized that there is scripturally no such thing as an {unbaptized Christian}, we dropped this terminology along with the practice. A side benefit of correcting this has been a reduction in legal problems that resulted from publicly labeling someone ``bad''.
[33] This verse is like a mantra to every Christian parent of teenage children.
lightTo see the rest, and look up you favorite peeve....
The range of electromagnetic radiation that is visible to the human eye, the opposite of darkness. The Bible speaks of light in a figurative sense frequently to represent divine truth. Jehovah is the source of all of light. (Isa 45:7) It is he who makes it possible for his creatures to see light. (Psa 36:9) Knowledge of Jehovah is increasing today as never before. The Bible compares the trek of his people along this way to the increasing light of a new day. (Pro 4:18) Accordingly, Jehovah's people frequently speak of newly understood and recently revealed truths as ``new light''. <<Paragraph ten of last week's Watchtower Study shed new light on our understanding of Jehovah's great love.>>
Have fun!

i can't believe it but the first thursday of feb marked one full year of freedom for me and my children.. that thursday was the last meeting i ever attended.. we have never looked back and time has just gotten away from me because we are enjoying new experiences and trying to get used to this new life.
i wonder what i should do to celebrate?.
any suggestions?.
Ranchette,
((((((((Many congratualtions.)))))))
Your family's response showed that they were no longer affected by the JW life they knew before, so rejoice in that wonderful fact of knowing your children feel so free that they could not relate to their Mom's happiness.
I wish you all the best for the years of freedom to follow.

despite the lackluster records of jw number growth in the past 6 years, i believe that their numbers will start to swell again and remain high for at least another 10 years here is why.. the society is becoming more and more business like in its approach (especially after last year's re-org) on how to maintain and increase growth.
the wts, like any corporation when it becomes acutely aware of stagnation, begins to formulate a number of new techniques in order to bolster its sagging membership or sales.
this could include, tv ads (i believe intuit39 mentioned something to that effect), radio, newspaper and magazine ads and direct mailings.
There is only one way they will grow. Third world countries will buy their rubbish in exchange for food!
Are the JW's that desperate? Sure they are!
