You may see a lot of silent protest in the form of not donating as much,...
If the R&F don't contribute enough at the CirAssm or SpecAssmDay, the circuit just sends a bill to each cong for the difference.
announce was made this week that the assembly halls in london, ohio and indianapolis indiana will be sold and a new 3000 seat assembly hall will be built in southwest ohio.
the assembly hall in london ohio was built in the 70's and is in fine shape - nothing wrong with it.
the new one will cost around 8-9 million.

i was inspired by a recent thread i know i aint gunna crumble the wt, but a girl can dream to look at the effect we as individuals are having on the watchtower society.. 3dogs1husband quoted a story to show that even helping only one person is worth it.. it is encouraging to note that the one person you may have helped has lead to millions being helped, due to the power of compounding growth.. compounding growth is well illustrated by the rice on a chessboard problem.
if you start with 1 grain of rice on square one, and double it to 2 on the second, 4 on the third, 8 on the fourth, by the last (64th) square there would be 18,446,744,073,709,551,615 grains of rice.. likewise, if you help one person out of the grip of the watchtower this year, then next year you help one more and they help one, in a few years that is going to have a formidable result on the number of jehovahs witnesses.
look at the following statistics.
Repeatedly it is said that 2/3 - 3/4 of born-ins are leaving the Org. This is what the Pew Study also suggested.
I DO NOT see that happening here locally.
Of course we are in the Bible Belt of the south which has always been a stronghold of fundamentalist religions, so it is good turf for JWs as well. In our cong, the youngsters are striving to be MS and are being appointed at 19 or 20. MS in their late 20s are being appointed as elders. The ones I see leaving are the burn-outs in their 40s (or 30s at the earliest). Of course that is aside from the ones being "asked" to leave because they can't keep their zipper zipped. They are again trying to resolve that problem by the marriage of teenagers once again. That too has always been more acceptable in these parts. But, I can think of several who were DFd or reproved who are back at climbing the ladder again as opposed to just hanging in there to be with family.
Your observations where you are at? (And where are you if your are comfortable stating that.)
i have to hand it to the society.
they understand the power of organization.
they demonstrate that no matter how ridiculous your message and how much the facts don't support your position you can still accomplish a lot if you are organized.
Somedays I wonder what would happen to the WTBTS if they lost their tax-exempt status.
It's time for ALL religions to lose the tax-exempt status! They are just BIG BUSINESS disguised as charity.
this is a sickening one sided article in a florida newspaper.. i call upon all of you to please post a comment and state the real facts .. http://www.ocala.com/article/20110630/articles/110639978?p=2&tc=pg.
.
thanks.
Someone from Ocala area should write a "letter from readers" to the newspaper with a courteous, tactful reply stating facts about shunning; false prophecy; etc. Short and sweet (not Koolaid-Man style).
yet many people comment from a WT comment anyways),
And no one dares to make a comment that would question JW "truths"!
Consider this week's Cong BookBiblestudy saying those appointed and be consider to be "appointed by Holy Spirit".
Can you imagine anyone asking why So-and-So was appointed by the Holy Spirit when it later became known that he was: carrying on an adulterous affair for many years..........or..........molesting children for years.............or..........embezzling from elderly investors..........etc
THAT would get you an invitation right into the "backroom" after the meeting!
if you are afraid to join the forum and enter discussions, believe me -- we understand.. if you're feeling all alone, this message is especially for you.. sometimes people refrain from joining and posting because certain posts or threads really upset or offend them.
or maybe you're reluctant to jump in because you see interesting threads get hijacked or go off in all sorts of confusing directions and you don't want that to happen to you.. if that's you, i suggest you join and start with private messages (pms) instead.
doing it that way, you can correspond one-on-one with posters you feel most comfortable with.. how do you choose who to pm?
As a lurker, I was fearful that my IP address would be visible to others. It's my understanding (hopefully) that is not true. But that kept me from posting for quite some time until investigating. I think it WOULD be known to moderators.
Are PMs just as secure? Or, would the receiver see the IP of the lurker?
I know of a guy who has told several that he was ID by the elders via his IP address. I'm thinking this was because he used the same computer (thus the same IP) for his regular emails to friends & family as he did for his "anonymous apostate" emails to the same people.
Can someone with some IT smarts clarify all of this?
I'm sure it would put a lurker at ease to be assured of their anonymity.

Seems they are consolidating multiple congs into one KH in many places. With the elimiation of the Bookstudy, KHs can be used more effectively by several congs. Each auditorium can easily handle 3-4 congs. Tues, Wed, Thurs, Fri nites for TMS/SerMtg and Sunday meetings at 9:00, 11:30; 2:00, & 5:00 (or move one to Sat afternoon or evening).
Guess the same plan in effect for AssmHalls. Let's send them all to Cincinnati !
i was just curious to know if anyone knows how many ex-dubs have gay, lesbian, or bi-sexual tendencies that linger both inside and outside the organization- whether or not they were ever acted upon??
my husband pokes fun at me sometimes that i love women and that i'm bi-sexual.
i guess i can't really deny that.
How could you ever take a head count in a "don't ask, don't tell" environment?
That's kinda like making a list of which elders and their wives are enjoying oral sex?
Don't ask, don't tell.
startfragment.

my comments and bible quotes are in plain text.. .
"....men who meet the Scriptural requirements are appointed….Those who meet the qualifications can be said to have been appointed by holy spirit.”
I caught this comment in the bookstudy (oops BIBLE study) last night. Isn't this a change from what has been previously said in past publications? Seems to me they used to make it sound like the "appointed by Holy Spirit" meant there was some hocus pocus divine decision making when these dudes were chosen by the BOE. Now, it just means that some subjective opinions amongst the BOE says they are OK to be included in the GOBC (Good Ole Boys Club).
I think there have been so many lousy appointments in recent years (bros who are gay or having affairs right at the time they were appointed) that it has totally dispelled the idea that there was any HOLY SPIRIT involved in the decision making. I mean, how many mistakes can the HS make before you question its holiness? Or, the holiness of the group making that claim?
With this new explanation, now the f&ckups are the fault of poor local elder decision-making, not the fault of the HS or evidence that they do not truly have the HS on their side.
Of course, DO NOT question anyone who has been "appointed by Holy Spirit" or you are in deep $hit!
if you are an elder or an ex-elder please add a comment.
i hope that the governing body will see this.
it is too bad it has to be on an anonymous forum.
Most JWs don't have any freaking idea about the doctrine they claim is THE TRUTH.
That's why they had to publish the Reasoning Book. Average JW can't effectively argue the Trinity or Immortality of the Soul, let alone explain what 2520 years has to do with 1914 or a Tree Dream.
