Disfellowshipped a threat?
by truthseeker1969 insooooooooooooooooooooo would i be right in assuming that the sitting at the back of the hall, no contact, no answering mean that the spirituality of the congregation is not that strong?.
to me it would seem that elders are scared that a disfellowshipped person is more strong in reasoning and knowledge than the rank and file of the congregation.. i wonder how many elders are "infected" by the disfellowshipped person but are so caught up in being an under lord they just carry on?
i wonder how many within the congreation are sick of elders throwing people out for free thinking?.

or better yet replace the existing personal income tax with a retail sales tax.
The LOW estimates on what this sales tax rate would have to be is 20% - 25%, with many economists saying higher (30%+). If you travel to nations that currently have a national sales tax or value added tax, you will be shocked as to how high typical things cost. Then I fear, our national sales tax would go the same path that state and local sales taxes have gone, i.e., I recall when state/local tax rate was < 3%. Now, here it is over 9.5%, despite the fact that inflation increases the tax recepts in direct proportion to the higher costs of good. Most things eaily cost twice as much as they did 20 years ago, which means that the sales tax revenues would have doubled WITHOUT higher tax rates. But that isn't what has happened. Tax rates have tripled, thus tax revenues went up six-fold. And it still isn't enough for the bureaucrats -- they want more and always will want more!

Idle question about Abraham and Human Sacrifice
by corpusdei ini don't have my usual resources in front of me, so i can't fact check this, but there's been something bothering me.
one of the things mentioned quite often as evidence of the wickedness and evil practices of the false religion that surrounded ancient israel is the practice of child sacrifice (baal and molech being the frontrunners as i recall).
but ...... didn't god tell abraham to kill his own son isaac as a human sacrifice?

Has LARS ever written a comment that
wasn't too large to read???
(I really refer to the OTHER kind of LARGE)
Even if he would have something meaningful to add, who the hell has the time to read any of those diatribes??
(Get him some Depakote)
EDITED TO ADD:
Then SULLA posts: Just wanna go on record as a big fan of the clitoris. I feel like I need to get that out there. Now you know; carry on.
Just proves my point, if I'd have known LARS (I suspect) was going to bring the clitoris into the conversation, I might have taken the time to stumble thru it all.
See there, LARS, notice how easily SULLA was able to catch the attention of a reader by being brief & to the point.
Perhaps, putting CLITORIS in all caps and in bold would have helped give attention to an exhastively long, unbearable post.
Or, maybe in RED: CLITORIS (Anything to make a post more interesting or eye-catching.)
[Stepping off of my soapbox.]

.......stipulate that 20 percent has to be used in community projects with no religious mandate and you gain your exemption, if you dont you get the full corporate tax rate imposed with no tax deductions.
Donations I believe should be taxed anyway, its all about greed.
All religion oriented businesses should be taxed like any other business. Period.
1st Amendment (US): "Congress shall make no law respecting an establishment of religion, or prohibiting the free exercise thereof; or abridging the freedom of speech, or of the press; or the right of the people peaceably to assemble, and to petition the Government for a redress of grievances."
In my opinion, taxing religion based businesses on a basis equal to any other business would not constitute making a"law respecting the establishment of religion". Evidently, the Supreme Court viewed California's sales tax on religious material the same way. Equal taxation, NOT exempt from it. With the dire economic situation faced in the US, politicians (let alone citizens) could easily see religion as a bastian of wealth to be tapped.

Watchtower "Witch hunt" ... Practice for frantic elders
by AwareBeing innot being adaptable to change, an old program form christendom's dark ages was employed by the wt.. starting just before 2007, a lot of "witch hunts" began in the cong's for "disgruntled ones" and those.
who rarely talked to the elders.
they were closely watched, followed, and their friends were quizzed by the boe.. with peeking around the coroners, spying, and debriefings; things came to a crescendo by 2009's end.. in full panic stage, elders and the visiting co's began acting unnatural around the flock by becoming.

Ever since the Bethel witch hunt in the Ray Franz days, the WTS has been seeing apostates everywhere.
Maybe it's not their imagination afterall. They're everywhere! They're everywhere!

What was I thinking?
Leave the WT so that I can smoke dope, get drunk, engage in bi-sexual sex with multiple partners and finally find a better life.
Good message.

Friendships are built around the things that 2 people have in common. It's the same in the JWs. You have something in common to discuss and to "voluteer" your time to help that effort that is different from everyone else, which is why when you are speaking to a JW, once you get past the meeting, the Assm, your recent RV, or a comment your BS made............you are out of things in common and the conversation lulls. Cliques develope within the congreation (and we complained when we were not part of them) among small groups of individuals who have something else in common beyond the JW doctrine. Golfing. Boating. Hunting. Fishing. However, these are always required to take 2nd place to organizational things, thus if you end up OUT of the Org, then you are OUT of the clique as well.
If you are in a small community there are groups that volunteer their time for community betterment such as the JayCees, Kiwanis Club, etc.
Or, if you have an illness there are often "support" groups for those dealing with it; breast cancer; diabetics; AA; etc.
People in those groups break off into their own cliques of people who have other common interests: golfing, boating, etc etc

Are you suggesting that there was some kind of directive that came down from the bOrg to scrutinize "disgruntled ones" OR are you just referring to something that happened locally??

Jesus Making JW the "True" Religion
by Cali Guy inthis thought has been crossing my mind frequently lately.
jw have undoubtably not always been correct in their interpretation of the bible.
yet, the wt claims that they are the true religion.

Why would the WTs divine leader choose to lead with a whisper the GB can barely hear at the best of times instead of sending them visions, or making each of them reach the same conclusions at the same time? (That would actually be quite impressive when you think about it.) Unless, of course, that divine connection doesn't exist and they're no more divinely inspired than any other group.
Or when they finally do reach some "divinely directed" conclusion by a 3/4 majority, that divine conclusion is deemed to be wrong by another 3/4 majority.

I always thought it was funny that they had a tiny museum that included the old cross and crown pins AND Russell's pyramid illustrations! They had this banner thing hanging with pyramid sketches that Russell designed to explain his prophecy. They also had publications that explained the pyramid theories, in a glass case and open for all to read.
WOW! That all sounds like apostate or occult stuff to me!
