There are almost no single family dwellings in NYC. I suspect the virus has contaminated entire apartment buildings. People who stayed at home in their apartment or flat on the 10th floor have been exposed to every COVID positive person in their building.

Covid-19 (Coronavirus) - Status Update Thread
by Simon inthis topic is to focus on status updates & advice (no opinion or politics please).. status.
latest status is that it's serious, probably isn't going to be contained and most large companies are making contingency plans, cancelling large events etc... which i don't think would happen if it was just people being alarmist.
the incubation period means it may have already spread further and infected many more people than are currently known, so expect jumps in the numbers over the coming days and weeks.. tracking.

Don't you realize that The Truth is "ever changing"?
How is it that we were so duped that we couldn't see how ridiculous that statement is?

(Not so sure about the British) but here in America the younger generation is voting for socialism and are willing to give up what used to be our fundamental rights (laws against hate speech, gun control, etc).
If the was was held today, I'm afraid the outcome would be very different.

Are Ex-JW's Suffering From Burn Out?
by IWant2Leave inthe reason that i ask is, in the two years on this forum and you tube, i've seen ex-jw's either drop off entirely or make fewer and fewer videos.
i know the emotional toll can be high.
is that the sole reason, or is it cost (video) or do you think it's external pressure (legal or family)?

There is never going to be a reformed JW organization. That is what some were hopibg for. When they were wrong they were still right. Later they will blame us for thinking they were wrong, the rest will be disappointed again by new light ~ RoadToNowhere
Yes, I originally thought I could work for change from the "inside" of the Borg. Not only is that not possible but it will make you feel defeated. If I could do it, I'd change my ID (DOC) to DOUBTFUL of Change because I now know it's never going to happen!

On The Art Of Fading
by expatbrit inin october of 2000, i faded away from the watchtower.
like most people, i have family and friends who are jw's (including my wife and parents).
fading is generally the best method for people in that situation.

I hope they have all moved on to being "ex-XJW's"!

What do you make of this recent article regarding the United Nations stance towards overriding religions of the world on certain matters?
by devout_no_more infirst of all, this is my first post here on the forums even though i have been registered now for some time.
i have been faded from the jehovah's witness religion for many years now, but only recently within the past year or so gotten quite serious about it - crisis of conscience by ramond franz really kicked things off for me personally.. anyway, my wife, parents, step-sister and her husband and my half-brother are all still active jw's, so i am still exposed to them, and this is also the reason why i'm still "faded".
frankly i'd probably just as soon disassociate myself without the threat of being shunned.

IF the WT would happen by chance to guess it right on one date of their predictions, they would still be like the broken clock -- wrong 11 times for every time they are coincidentally right.
Well to our group of "mentally diseased" apostates.
I've been doing the JW thing since childhood and got dunked as an infant (almost) in the mid-60's. I very well remember their first prophetic date that affected me. (There were plenty of more prior to that one.) It was the 1966 revelation of the 6,000 year chronology that "strongly indicated" that 1975 would be the conclusion of 6,000 years of man's creation. YES! It meant Armageddon was imminent!
It was followed up by the Awake! magazine article in the May 22, 1969 issue (things were really getting "close" now) stating that youth in from high school would not have sufficient time in this system of things to complete a college education. YES! YES! The End(™) must be very, very close! "STAY ALIVE 'TIL '75!"
Guess what? None of what they predicted (prophesied?) ever happened! 1975 came and went. (Of course sitting in line for gasoline at the exorbitant price of 75¢ per US gallon made it seem like the "end of the world" was coming as did driving only 55 mph and 18% interest on a mortgage.) Still, ZIP! NOTHING!
BTW -- nothing of what they predicted about 1914, 1925, 1940's, or "before the end of the 20th Century", ever happened either! So far, the broken clock has a much greater success rate than the WTS/GB!
**************
Since I suspect you are younger than I am upon awakening to TTATT, my first suggestion would be to PLAN NOW for the remaining future you have. Not only could I have finished college, I am retirement age and have finished one career. Fortunately, I am not like many older JW's that have attained this age but are broke and without a decent pension or savings. PLAN AHEAD FOR YOUR FUTURE! You will not see the Panda Petting Paradise that you have been promised. Quit holding on to false prophecy.
Also, be "easy" on your family that is still in. You won't awaken them by dumping everything you have learned regarding TTATT on them all at once. It is a gradual process, as you no doubt discovered yourself. Drop little hints. Ask "disturbing" questions. Force them to investigate the "Truth".
Good luck! Glad you're here!

DITTO to what 1234 says above!
Thankfully, many ex-XJW's hang around here, no longer for their benefit, but to help the Newbies that show up here looking for support.

Almost everyone who appears on the site is already an exJW or is PIMO and about to become an exJW.
There is a natural progression, which takes longer for some that it does others, to eventually become an ex-exJW.
Even as an exJW, you’ll likely find that JWism still plays a big role in your life (unfortunately).Even after i discovered TTATT and realized everything about the Cult was BS, I was still engrossed in every glimmer of their New Light or every JW activity. I downloaded everything from Atlantis. Now, however, I can say that I really don't give a rat's @$$ about it. None of it matters in our lives any longer.
We're not going to do them the favor of DA. We still play the "stumbled inactive" card with family. But we are no longer consumed by anything in the JW World. So, perhaps we are becoming ex-exJW's.

Dose age and the reasons for leaving affect the out come
by joe134cd infirstly for anyone leaving is don’t get involved in alcohol, drugs, parties, and sleeping around, because it will just come back and bite you in the arse.. i have a theory that those who leave the religion at an older age do better than those who leave at a younger age.
i think to that the reasons for leaving are quite different between the age groups.
i sometimes wonder if many of the under 30’s use the short comings of the religion, as an excuse to pursue the above mentioned life style.

Frankly I think many who leave do get involved in practices forbidden by the religion. Things that are "immoral" to JW's, but likely not so to the "average Joe". Recreational marijuana is becoming acceptable in many US States. Grossly immoral to a devout JW. My 65 year old fabulously successful conservative (rabid republican) attorney friend asks me recently if I am "420 friendly".(No. Not that it's "immoral". Just not my drug of choice.)
Any kind of sex (even masturbation and especially anal or oral sex) by single JW's is "immoral", whereas "normal", healthy, single adults are going to have sex (if they can arrange to do so). JW's who leave that have suppressed same-sex attraction for years are going to at least experiment with it. Many "normal" youths (especially girls) have done that by High School and may have even tried threesomes.
So, yes.......all those self-righteous JW's look down with disdain at all those who have left the flock to pursue their "immoral" desires. Desires and actions that are probably just "normal" things to all their "new" friends and associates.
