You forgot:
5.5 Elders' Wives
i'm just thinking of examples of jw doublethink.. here's one - jws will tell a bible study or unbaptised publisher that there is no hierarchy within the org.
they typically remark on christendom's hierarchy but then say 'we are all brothers'.
but as a person gets further into the cult, jws will constantly stress the need to obey the governing body.. jw hierarchy .
You forgot:
5.5 Elders' Wives
active believer...still attend meetings, go out in field service, believe it's ''the truth''.
active non-believer... go to meetings and field service to please family... living a double life .
inactive believer...don't attend meetings but believe it's the truth, one day might go back to kingdom hall.
#4 -- Inactive agnostic.
Convinced the WT bOrg does not have The Truth(®) but still have lingering thoughts about a Higher Power somewhere, somehow involved in it all. Just haven't really been shown any hard evidence to make a convincing argument.
someone made reference in another post that the awake magazine had ceased publication.
maybe i missed it since i have not been on here as much in the last 6 months.
is this true?
Announcement coming soon:
It was at the 1990 Cedar Point "Somewhere in our dreams" convention that it was pointed out that the works of the modern day locust would soon draw to a close. In that end we see the end of the publishing of the Asleep magazine has now arrived. We rejoice with you in seeing this further understanding carried forth.
Surely the Service Dept has someone reading this boards to find great ideas like this on how to spin this shit. Think about it! We are like their free polling numbers.
the new york times as well as other news agencies are reporting that in order to help save the planet we should limit our daily bathing.
they say daily bathing really because popular in the 20th century because elites decided to impress and use petroleum based soaps and take advantage of their indoor plumbing.
a lot of this daily bathing ritual was just for show.
Bathing only once/week would surely help with social distancing and lower covid transmission rates.
do you think there will be another round of stimulus checks?
.
If the Dems have their way, there will be.
Gotta buy those votes.
i woke up early in life.
it’s not because i was smarter than my brothers and sisters.
in fact, reflecting back, i actually don’t know why i didn’t embrace the watchtower teachings?
Divine Justice is what made the New World really attractive. Joe Hoover was going to "make all things right".
Didn't happen. Ain't going to.
No one (else) said life is fair.
non-jw women usually expect their man to have some type of social status.
whether it's education, money, fame, etc.. these days, feminism also plays a role in a future, marriage.
(the man is not the head, maybe the women is the head).
Yes, most MUST settle for less because the poll of JW men is very limited. IF they are "spiritual", then they must be a MS &/or pioneer or even a Bethelite. Anything less and the woman (let's say "girl" because JW's don't wait to get married as fully adult "women") would be "weak" spiritually. A young couple would be criticized for worrying about a good paying job (let alone a "career") because THE END is sooooooo near and you can have all those things in the New World.
we do talk a lot about how this site doesn’t center on all things jw.
so what would you like to discuss?.
the floor is yours..
I am amazed that any reasonably intelligent JW can still "justify" the ridiculous doctrinal changes and flip flops. (Of course I did that for many, many years, but....) If you just limit this to the "overlapping" generations mumbo jumbo, shouldn't that be enough to awaken most people? I mean, clearly......Jesus DID NOT mean that.
Plus, it's not just that one generational change. I'm old enough to recall when THE GENERATION was those "of age" in 1914. Then those who could discern the facts that showed it was the "beginning" of the Last Days. Then anyone born before 1914. Then the fact that all those people were dead (or nearly dead) they simply had to "pull the plug" on that nonsense. But isn't the "overlapping" doctrine even MORE nonsensical? Geezus! WTF came up with this shit?
don't know how many of y'all still watch it.. this month's topic is "the king of the north" - cook goes into monotonous detail over the jw interpretation about rome, germany, ussr, russia, etc.. leaving aside for other commentators the emotionally manipulative videos of jws in russian holding cells, the tearjerker interviews, the god-awful stiffness of cook (i suspect he has never genuinely smiled, much less laughed, in his 60+ years), just thought i'd comment on one topic.. the centerpiece of the program is a "morning worship" monologue from splane.
let's again just leave to the side the dude's pomposity, smugness, and inflated sense of his own genius, and think about this part of his monologue.. he was tracing the history of the "king of the north" and talked about how "britain" (not england, not the united kingdom, not great britain, but "britain" - no idea why they have that fixation - anyway...) became the kotn in the 19th century.. paraphrasing his comments: "britain would not have become kotn if france had its way.
france was much wealthier and more powerful, but at the battle of waterloo, britain defeated france.
And the JW's just sit back, nod, and mutter: WOW!
Isn't it obvious Joe Hoover is directing the GB!
I’ll talk to JW‘s that we meet in public or out events where we both happen to be invited. And since we are not DFd and seen as only “spiritually weak and inactive”, most we’ll chat with us at least a little. I make a point to reassure them that life is great. No moaning. No whining. Just living life to the fullest. If and when it seems like the appropriate opportunity I might say something to plant a little seed of doubt.
