my in-laws are two such people.
people who pioneered and did not work and try to save, instead they made just enough to get by and waited for the end to come.
now my mil is in palliative care and the state is paying for her keep, my fil lives in a dilapidated home and can not keep it up.
We have family like this. Just now semi-retiring in their 60's but they still owe as much on their home as they originally paid for it decades ago because they kept refinancing it over and over again, paying off credit card &/or paying for trips to go serving where construction volunteers were needed by WT. They are still convinced they will never have to pay it off because The End is SOOOOOO CLOSE.
And they are right! At their ages, they will not pay it off before The End comes. THEIR END.

Yes! When they need legal counsel or some kind of medical assistance, shouldn't they be using those who are very "spiritual", ie, regular pioneers, etc?
Obviously they are trusting in men (with college degrees) instead of on the Holy Spirit.

I found that if you mentioned things like this to the average JW, they would just respond that the Society needs it to build Kingdumb Halls in poor countries around the world and/or to build the audio video studios.

This was the most damning article IMO. Most likely because I know how greatly it affected my life. May 22, 1969 Awake! magazine. It does not specifically mention 1975, but every JW knew that was what it was about.

A skilled surgeon just saved the life of a close family member. He was raised in a pretty normal, middle class family but was extremely bright and gifted and motivated.
But then, he was allowed to go to medical school. Most of us here were just expected to get the equivalent of a 4-year degree (BTW, not enough to be a surgeon) from reading Awake! magazines.
How many lives of bright, gifted, talented JW's were wasted peddling magazines for 10¢ contributions to support this effing Cult?
next years memorial article focuses on the two class system that they promote.. interestingly, they mention how the anointed are in two covenants.
the new covenant and the kingdom covenant.
they claim that both of these covenants opened up the way for a small number to become kings and priests in heaven.
I find it interesting how differently I look at these things now. In the past I would have consumed this article and read it multiple times so as to have a grasp on the "understanding" of the deeper troofs. Then, after discovering TTATT, I would still make efforts to stay informed about changes in doctrine, policy, etc. But, now, I can barely get through reading the posted comments here. It is all just soo ridiculous now IMO. It certainly has no bearing on our life any longer.
I find I am much less judgemental about many of the things that were "wrong" as a JW, ie, homosexuality, premarital sex, cohabiting, etc. I have much stronger political views than I did as an active JW.
I'd rather believe there was rampant voting fraud than that many stupid people.

revelation 12 speaks about a flight of a symbolic woman to a wilderness.
