I would suspect that he has nothing maturely to leave to the organization. If he had a huge estate and provided a copy of his will designating WTS as the prime beneficiary, they would have people there 24/7 wiping his ass.

JWLITE
by Teddnzo ineven elders can be part of the new jw lite brigade these days.
they don’t need to go on door to door anymore and there is no requirement for anything really.. taking meeting parts is all dead easy you could turn up on the day with zero preparation because it’s all in the meeting workbook.. quarterly elders meetings are just old men having a good old natter just like old men do down the pub.. congregations could be likened to pubs or bars these days just without the drinks, those come at other times.. no need for territory maps, these almost went away with covid letter writing now they are extremely slow getting finished as those who still go door to door only do ten mins.. you could even voice your questions these days about things the gb say and then just say “we can’t be dogmatic we just don’t know”.
i predict they will say this about 1914 soon..

They might have STATED “we are not inspired, and we get things wrong” and “we can’t be dogmatic because we don’t know”, BUT THEY DON’T MEAN IT! And I don’t believe you’ll ever see it be put into practice.
Similarly, they had statements made under oath before the Canadian Court that anyone who is DF/DA is NOT shunned in any way other than being excluded from “spiritual matters”. That was, and is clearly a blatant lie and total bullshit.
Rather, I think what will REALLY be put into practice will continue to be “OBEY US, even if it doesn’t seem rational”, followed up with “Do you believe that Jehovah is using the GB to direct his people today.“

Can the Watchtower Society survive without time reports?
by DT inthere has already been much discussion about how the watchtower society has declared in australia that going door to door is part of a personal ministry.
this seems to be a lame attempt to avoid liability considering that they require time reports and have formal meetings for field service at the kingdom hall.. this is a bit of a dilemma.
reporting time and formal meetings for field service are important methods of control, however it's not clear if the organization is willing or able to handle the potential liability that may come from this.. imagine what would happen if they lost these methods of control.

Can they survive without time reports? Definitely! Most JDubs will look favorably on no longer having to struggle to get their 10 hours to be "average".
I was kinda surprised because they have always put great emphasis on having that 10 hour average to qualify as a MS or elder, but more recently it looks like they have lowered the requirements to just being capable of fogging a mirror.
What they cannot survive without is MONEY. After cashing in on $1.5 BILLION$ (or more) from the sale of the Brooklyn real estate, I find it hard to believe they are really desperate for ca$h, but they sure sound desperate. While still a JW I was embarrassed by their begging (since they said that would indicate a loss of Holy Spirit), but they sure are groveling constantly now for money. Hard to believe that after the severe downsizing and slashing of their costs (almost no printing; staff size greatly reduced) that their expenses are higher than their receipts (ie, definite "rental fees" of assembly halls and now even guaranteed contributions from every congregation.
There is no transparency. It will take someone in the finance office defecting to know more.

Sounds like things are looking up for you. I'd guess that his "reset" doesn't include JWs/Watchtower anymore. At 41 years old, he should at least be an MS, or even an elder. Your description of him (long hair & beard) tells us that he is neither. You don't mention him having any kind of family (your grandkids, etc) so I'm guessing he is still single. Celibacy isn't a lifestyle chosen by most men. The JWs more than just frown on a guy that's getting some romance outside of marriage and even look even harsher if he's gay.
I wouldn't push him for details about the religion. Just take advantage of the renewed opportunity to connect.

Any discussion and speculation among JDubs will be "kept close to the vest" among close friends who can be trusted to not NARC on one another.

Thought on “0 hours” reporting
by FFGhost inso everyone knows the “big news” of this past weekend, no more reporting of hours, placements, return visits, etc.
beginning november 1, jws just tick a box indicating whether they “shared in any form of the ministry during the month”.. so there was a brief comment by a redditor that seems like a brief joke “throwaway comment” but after thinking about it….why not?.
the idea is, what is “any form of the ministry”?

I think this will be very interesting. If a JW does NOT check the {Active} box, he/she is making it clear that they are NOT one of JWs. At least not an "active" JW. Up until now, elderly pubs were allowed to report 15 minutes so as to remain an "active publisher". Now one doesn't really have to do anything. Leave a tract in the doctor's office. I even found one in the hospital bathroom stall.
If you can't do ONE thing every 30 days to record your "activity", it's clearly a decision you have made.

No more REPORTING field service!!!!!!!!!
by BoogerMan inthis is going to break the hearts of a lot of uber-jw's!
reddit has now removed the video link of samuel herd telling jw's they will no longer have to report time or placements - just tick a box which says "active.".

Let me check the date……
OK, so it is NOT April 1st.
Please assure me this is confirmed by the “Two Witness Rule” and not a farce.

EDITED:
Yep! It’s on the JW.borg website news.

Jehovah's Witnesses...loyal to God...or to the Watchtower Bible and Tract Society ?
by Balaamsass inthis month is a month of testing for jehovah's witnesses.
individually, each must ask himself: to whom are you loyal?
no doubt in ancient isreal many attended the molech and calf worshiping festivals out of loyalty to the nation, the king, and perhaps in a mistaken belief to "jehovah".

Was this started even before the Watchtower declared JWs much obey the GB even if it does not seem rational? I'm thinking that was a WT issue in 2013 but too lazy to go check my notes.
Maybe you (Balaaamsass) are a better prophet than they profess to being?
But, isn't it obvious that JWs today give their loyalty to the WTS/GB? They have fallen to the lowest level of any "academia" as far as really studying or knowing what the Bible says. Most have no "Christian Trained Conscience" because they have not taken the time or effort to KNOW what the Bible says. They just puppet WT orders.

Can Elders Voluntarily Resign?
by NotFormer inan elder with half a brain (and they must exist 🧐) is going to see the writing on the wall with the way the wt is manoeuvring them into taking the fall over csa cases.
can an elder in good standing step down with no consequences, official or social?.

My unbaptized teenage kids (because I would NOT allow that to happen) were becoming an issue so it made it easy to say I needed to spend more time with my family.
Best decision I ever made.

Elders helping on blood
by road to nowhere ini'm up against surgery for family again.
the nicest elder presently says he will (must) come to support the blood issue.
the decision was already discussed with the doctor by the family member.

Personally I don't want to have to be polite and visit/ entertain others in these times either.
Whoever informed the "nice" elder should have STFU (assuming it was not the patient or at least it was the patient's choice to inform the elder.
Take a good book and ignore them all.
I'd recommend Crisis of Conscience, but that might not be the best choice under the circumstances.
