there may be no way legally for me to stop this, but it is a worry since i "woke up" to the truth about the truth a couple years ago.. now my young kids (9 and 11) are heading in that direction at the urging of their mother.
i am still inside and trying to do a fade (for family/friend reasons) but sometimes i wonder if leaving would be smarter in the long run for them.
any thoughts or strategies are welcome.. .
Nathan, I dont see how he could be more benificial to them by staying in.
Once he is out, everything he says that is remotely negative will be construed as "apostate".
By staying "in", expressing concern over their young age can be legimate concern instead of just negativity.
ok, quick run down of my situation.. .
1. i am not religious.
my now-fiance was raised jw but left the religion about 10 years ago.. 2. we started dating last march, i got pregnant within two weeks.
I would say that it would be very beneficial to find out exact reasons why he left, and what was the "major event" that makes him want to return.
SEX.
That's probably the reason he left in the first place. He likely did not leave "mentally". He just left physically and in his mind, temporarily. He decided that FOR NOW, he simply cannot live by the WT (God's) rules. He "knows it's the Truth", but he is "weak" and cannot remain chaste. He now hopes the importance of having a child will be sufficient motivation to live in abstinance until you are legally married and thus having sex will be "by the rules" and acceptable.
He must not realize that it would be better for him to marry first, and then try to get back in. Once back in (if still single) he will again be ostracized for dating and marrying a non-JW.
she says she can prove i will die if i'm not in the "truth" strictly using the bible .
Here's just a little ammo you can use:
1 John 2:19 (NWT) -- They went out from us, but they were not of our sort; for if they had been of our sort, they would have remained with us. But [they went out] that it might be shown up that not all are of our sort.
1 Tim. 2:3-6 (NWT) -- This is fine and acceptable in the sight of our Savior, God, 4 whose will is that all sorts of men should be saved and come to an accurate knowledge of truth. 5 For there is one God, and one mediator between God and men, a man, Christ Jesus, 6 who gave himself a corresponding ransom for all"
Thus, you may not be of the JW "sort", but that doesn't mean it isn't "God's Will" for you to be saved.
Romans 10:9 (NIV) -- If you declare with your mouth, “Jesus is Lord,” and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead, you will be saved. (JWs demand more of you to gain salvation. IOW, they ADD other requirements to what is said in God's Word.)
Assuming your lifestyle would not qualify you for any of the naughty things mentioned, you could use:
1 Cor. 6:9-11 (NWT) -- What! Do YOU not know that unrighteous persons will not inherit God’s kingdom? Do not be misled. Neither fornicators, nor idolaters, nor adulterers, nor men kept for unnatural purposes, nor men who lie with men, 10 nor thieves, nor greedy persons, nor drunkards, nor revilers, nor extortioners will inherit God’s kingdom. 11 And yet that is what some of YOU were. But YOU have been washed clean, but YOU have been sanctified, but YOU have been declared righteous in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ and with the spirit of our God"
Where does it say you must attend meeting, go in field service, etc etc
i have a jw nephew in another state who was at very the top of his high school senior class this year.
because of this, my sister (an elder's wife) had planned and sent out invitations to his "graduation party" which would be held at a community center with all the bells and whistles.
i actually bought plane tickets for my wife and i to attend this party immediately after receiving the invitation in the mail.
ALFRED- It is awful how your sister and her husband have abused the word " discipline " by taking away even his graduation party !
It might be that his parents did not have much choice in the matter. If the elders plan on "marking" him at the next meeting (for dating a non-witness), then who of their friends would even attend the graduation party? No witness friends. And that's probably the only friends they have. No "bad association" friends.

These are the obvious things to do to build friendships with other wholesome associates. Yet, someone who is attempting a "fade" cannot do it, lest it be the excuse to take DFing action against them. Then they would end up cut off even more from family and (the few remaining) friends.

Your best resort may be to feign interest in seeing the PROOF that it is indeed the ONE TRUE RELIGION (as they claim). By posing questions based on info from this and other websites, you may be able to get him thinking about the many errors that exist but that most JWs are blinded to. If your discussion involves one of the JWs in the cong, you will have to tread lightly so as to not be labeled "apostate" right from the start.
Others here will mention what worked for them.

brother jackson (from the governing body) had this "neat" analogy at the very end of the convention.
he said; "what if you were watching a football game on tv, and it was the trojans against the fighting irish, and it's been a good game.
The WTS hides the goal posts, you don't know if you're a yard away or 50 yards away. And just when you think you're close, they move the goal post.
The real analogy is that the time ran out at quarter to eight and the runner still hasn't reached the line and the stupid coach is telling him to keep running when everyone else is packing up and looking for the next game. The runner is uncertain whether the rules have changed so now he's merely jogging so as not to look too stupid but also so his coach can't accuse him of quitting.
