Almost Hooked

Hello Yawritergrl, it is very nice to meet you. JW are not in the main bad people & I dare say this woman would have continued to be your friend all the time you made progress in your studies with her. Lucky for you, you didn't get dunked & then come out gay as you would have been kicked out & shunned by the very person who spent all this time having cosy chats with you over coffee. You will have to make new friends my dear that's all there is to it. I know this comes as a big blow but JW while truly believing that they have others best interest at heart do not do the whole friendship thing. It is a dog eat dog religion & you don't always realise this until your the one they are taking a bite out of. There are lots of wonderful people in the world who will love you just the way you are.

Need advice

i'm desperate.....short bio: i came into the organization after high school and shortly after married a wonderful girl who was born-in.we have been happily married now for nearly 20 years and things were well until 2015 hit.
by the way, i currently serve as an elder and have the ""privilege"" of being the "watchtower overseer".. either here nor there, we were told we would never have children but late last year my wife became prego!!

Hello Darknight, it is so nice to meet you. You & your wife obviously have a very loving relationship, that is the most positive thing here. The trust she has for you will be essential to her waking up to the Borg. The others here are right you have a perfectly good reason for stepping aside (not down) so go for it. The time you gain spend with your wife, go for drives to no-where so she can just talk, walk & hold her hand, have a weekly movie night & watch happy films ect. You get the idea, build even more on the trust you already have.
The loss of two, wow, you both sound very brave individuals. Your wife sounds like an amazing woman. The emotional strain for her must be huge, I think the most helpful thing for you both would be to seek out a good Psychologist, you are not required to tell anyone that your doing this, it is personal to you & your wife. You may go together or alone or separately there are no fixed rules. A woman may prove to be the best bet for your wife. Most people can say sorry or give advise which we are all doing here however speaking to a trained professional who will listen as you pour yourself out can really help in the healing process & you can be sure that it will go no further. Go talk to your GP, they usually have good recommendations. BIG HUG for you both. Sabin.

How Cultish are the JW's?

think of a cultish religion scale from 0-10.. consider the likes of unitarian universalism vs baptist vs amish vs charles manson.. where do you think jw's fall on the scale?.

You know I had a thought (dangerous I know) . When they calculate how destructive an earthquake is I believe they go on how many lives it has claimed first, before damage & cost, also in that cost would be the psychological trauma for those still alive.
You have to now consider not only literal life but also psychological. So a person die's from saying no to blood is one, the trauma caused to the family is many. A person commits suicide is one, the trauma caused to the family is many. ETC. you get my point.So if we go from say the last 100 years you would be looking at a 9 possibly a full 10. We shouldn't calculate something like a cult on our own experiences but should take into account everyone involved.

DD, they got a new globe out, during the day it's the world, at night when you switch it on it show's all the constellation's. You would love it. It look's so pretty in the picture. I think they sell it in the National Geographic shop. -

The fade did not work

Beautifulmind, There is no love in that religion at all & what's worse they are out of touch with reality & what life is all about.
You are so right, the thing is with JW is they live with box's. Everything is in some kind of box, there's the jw box & the worldly box. You go to field service group & your in a box inside the big jw box, the Reg pioneer box, Aux pioneer box, elder box, ms box etc. Then you go out God bothering & put all the ones in the big worldly box into their own little box's. The catholic box, atheist box, evolutionist box & so on. Then if they respond you put them in to yet another box, R.V box, mag box, study box with the hope you will get them out of the worldly box & into the JW box. Hell that's a lot of box's. That is why when you listen to them & they are in the cult mode they have a personality like cardboard. They are talking to box's there is no personal interest from some-one like that, they dont know how to talk to a PERSON. If your some-one who doesn't want to live life in a box your Fu.....ed, no choice but to walk..

I believe there is a method to their madness. Yes they do believe firmly in Jesus, his ransom sacrifice is what will ultimately save everybody. However to put Jesus on the peddle stool would mean they have a responsibility to live up to the way he treated others, to put Jehovah (the God of the old Testament, in most peoples view) a God of war gives them the perfect excuse to be BASTARDS. That's why they come out with crap like "if we were under law you would be stoned". It's just another way they can keep control. That's my opinion, & what has brought me to this conclusion? it's because they never really talk about Jesus in any real depth, they skip around him, even though the Christian cong is founded on his name, he being the head of it.
