Yes, I do have a picture of Berta in a family albumn. It was taken after she left Beth Sarim and was dating the married naval officer. She was still very pretty at the time.

Well it is Larc here, and I think that some of you are just obtuse, especially you Minimus. I do like your questions they add a lot to our party, but let us analyze the situation. 1. Berta starts her career at the top of the organization, not at the bottom, like all other sisters. 2. She is hired as Rutherford's dietician, even though he already has one. The guy doesn't go to Europe and Beth Sarim, Berta does. Berta had no training whatsoever for this job. According to my cousin, Berta was the dumbest of the 6 children in her family, albeit, she was a classical beauty. 3. She wears scandalous underwear which would get a sister disfellowshipped today. 4. She lives at Beth Sarim until it was sold. Obviously, she was in good standing. 5. She left her husband in Ohio to move to Bethel. He had to file for divorce, and all the paper work was sent to Bethel. One thing I forgot to mention, my wife remembers Berta saying, Rutherford was like a husband to me, now now what does that mean? I used to be embarrassed about this, but I really don't care any more. Can I absolutely prove this. No, I have no photographs of them in bed, but I do think the circumstantial evidence is over whelming.

Ken, I have enjoyed your posts, when you talk about the old JW days. I have added my comments on occasion, but then again, I am just a puppy of 63 years of age.

Feelings of an active JW
by XBEHERE ini have been lurking on this board ever since the may 2002 broadcast of that dateline on the subject of child molestation.
that show made me realize that the wt may not be speaking for god.
well naturally i discovered the truth about the "truth" over the past 21 months.

Family_Man, the honeymoon will be over when your wife gets baptized. Then the love bombing will stop and the strict enforcement of rules will begin. You have some time to deal with this, but you need to do a lot of research, to save your wife from this fate.

I would recommend ordering it directly from Ray, at Commentary Press. Let's keep the money in the xJW family. Ray deserves every penny he gets from this book. The WT threw him out at the age of 60. He had no retirement, and he had to work at menial jobs before his book was published. Even after the book was published, the volume of sales was light for quite some time. He is not making a fortune on this effort. Like I said, he deserves any thing he gets in royalties. He has helped so many people. As a person, he goes out of his way to help others.

Money and career tips for EX-JWs....
by logansrun init's a safe bet that if you were raised as a jw, or if you came into it early in life, you have some strange ideas about money and finances.
the wt for decades made even minimal post-secondary education utterly taboo and only recently has capitulated that "some" extra schooling might be neccessary (associate degrees good, bachelors degrees bad).
the average youth raised a jw has little understanding of investment due to the apocalyptic worldview of the organization (why invest in a dying system when the big "a" is right around the corner?).

I wanted to add one other thing. When someone is young, they think that retirement is far away that they don't plan for it. This is true of many people, not just the Witnesses. My opinion is that the earlier you start, the better off you will be. If you put money aside in your 20's, it will grow at a rate that you can not match at the age of 40, unless you are really rich at the age of 40. Of course, it is tough to save money in your 20's. You have all kinds of expenses related to getting married, having kids, and paying for all the stuff you need to get started in life.

One time, my son was having financial trouble. I told him he had two choices, either spend less, or earn more - even if it means working over time or getting a second job. I am retired. I am not rich, but I am comfortable, because I started early on to plan for my retirement. I hope that you all do the same.

Here is one: Stark, R. and Iannaccone, L.R. (1997) Journal of Contemporary Religion, Vol. 12, #2, pp. 133-157, Why the Jehovah's Witnesses Grow so Rapidly: A Theoretical Application. This was researched before the decline in growth began. I e-mailed Stark, to see if he would be interested in a follow up article. He as engaged in a large project, and did not want to take time to persue a folow up.

I have one comment regarding IRA's. I would do a lot of research on no load mutual funds. Look at their 10 year record, and send for some literature for several of them. The performance of all mutual funds is published once a year in Money magazine. I prefer the group of funds, known as Growth - Income funds. Personaly, I would not go to an insurance agent for advice. They are there to sell their products, and may be biased in their advice, since a commission is involved.

Frannie, perhaps you are right. Maybe my neurons fire differently. I know that my youngest daughter's must fire differently. She has gone through stuff and her life right now is far from perfect, yet, she continues to be a very happy person. Perhaps, it is genetic. I was far from a perfect father, so her environment does not account for it. She does not have to work at being happy. For those who do have to work at it, I think there is hope. You may not experience bliss all the time, but I think you can take the edge off of the very negative feelings and thoughts that people can have. I know that it can be hard work, but I really do think that is worth the effort. I think, with work, you can believe in yourself and have regard for yourself, no matter what others told you in the past or what they are telling you now. (If I said that you were a car, does that mean that you are a car??? Same with self worth - it comes from within, not from others.)
