Well one thing for sure about 2012 - it was a horrible movie.

How do you view the people you left behind?
by sabastious ini had a lot of anger towards them for a good amount of time.

i like to think about their attributes i admired.

I found the JW's I grew up with more hypocritical and deceptive than 'worldy" people. They were all liars and closet drinkers, drug users and partiers. The difference is that as JW they felt the need to hide their true selves. As a non JW - you can be your true self, therefore it is easier to cut through the BS people and find out who is really genuine.
I was told by an elder that even thought JW's have these problems, they are still better than wordly people cause they loved Jehovah.
Hypocrisy at its best.
So when I see JW's or think of the ones that I knew, I remember how trapped and conflicted they feel.My parents are still in and I see the faux smiles and the tightness in their grins when they say " they are the happiest people on earth".

Hello Everyone...Just Joined Today
by DarioKehl ini've been reading this thread for some time and finally had the opportunity to create an account.
i am anxious to meet you all and have a support group/active audience over the next crucial months and years following.
background: long-time doubter, giving way to frustration and skepticism beginning about 10 years ago and finally to total admission that this is a cult and that atheism is the way to go.

I prefer the word survived.
Failed implies that I am still in and trying yet not succeeding. Seems that the person posting this is more fitting of this description.

I was a teenager when I had a bad dream and woke up freaked out. I was sure the demons were tormenting me. I tore through my room trying to find out why the demons were harrassing me - and I found out what it was ! I had purchase a "Seventeen" teen magazine that had horoscopes (gasp!) in the back ! I ripped out the offending pages and threw them in the trash in the middle of the night.
I never told my mom - since she would have thrown away the entire magazine since she did not like me having anything other than the watchtower publications.
Makes me laugh now - but I was terrified as a kid.

Name Some Stupid Watchtower Rules or Ideas
by minimus inthere's a lot.. one rule that is dumb is that a brother must wear a suit for a sunday public talk that he is giving.
any other time, the brother could wear a suit coat with a different pair of pants and not be counseled for it.. another dumb idea is that you cannot date a person unless you seriously might marry them.
if you're on a date, you were supposed to always have a chaperone and holding hands might not be allowed as well as sitting together.. what other dumb rules and ideas can you add?.

Great thread !
1. Perfume - Our bookstudy conductor once cut the bookstudy short by 20 minutes to "educate" us on his allergy to perfume. (He is also the elder who told me that he thought my dad was crazy because he inhaled to many chemicals at his work - hence the reason my dad stepped down as an elder - but I regress). I could not stand the guys so I always made sure to wear perfume.
2. The Skirt Slit - I mentioned this before: I was counciled on this. I had a ankle length skirt that had a slit on the side that went to my knees. (Counciled by the Perfume Allergist himself) Scandal !
3. Nail Polish colors - Red is OK - any other color is bad.
4. Music - Led Zepplin was the devil and played backwards tells the listener to worship Satan. If you listen to Led Zepplin you are highly suspect.
5. Sports - I loved sports as a kid and even enrolled in 4 years of PE in High School just to stay active. But enrolled sports was a waste of time and you are better of out in service.
6. Temporary Tattoos - When I was in high school temporary tattoos were all the rage and you could buy them for 25 cents. I never wore one to a meeting, but apparently on a weekend night with friends I had one on my ankle and a CO saw me and told my elders, who came to my house to talk to my parents about if I wanted to be a JW anymore.

I was in 2nd grade. I remember coming to class one day and my teacher had a picture of the shuttle on the bulletin board. I remember it being a big deal to the teachers cause one of the astronaunts was a teacher.

WTWizard - I like that word! - blah-ify....I am gonna use it in a sentence today :)
Our hall had windows , but it was also on a booshie side of town. I do remember one very disturbing thing about it however; the main color was pink. The chairs were pink, the walls were pink....and if I remember correctly the carpet was some shade of pink. It was like we were bathing in Pepto Bismol at all times...maybe to keep the "spiritual food" down?

What was the first single you ever bought, and what are your memories?
by lifelong humanist insome light relief!.
even now, i can vividly recall buying my very first 45 rpm single in 1967.. i was only just 15 years old.
i worked as a 'paper boy', delivering newspapers to people living nearby.

Set Adrift on Memory Bliss - PM Dawn. I bought it in 1991 - I was in 8th grade.
It was hard to buy music since my parents did not let me have a radio in my room. The only one we had was in the living room so any music you listened to was "family approved". So whatever I ended up buying , my mom wanted to hear it on the way home from the store in the car stereo - to make sure it was appropriate. To that point, I had only a tape recorder in my room and had been doomed to listen to only Kingdom Melodies and drama tapes.
I did finally get a radio in my room when I went into my Junior year in High School cause I needed an alarm and I had convinced my mom that all alarms had radios on them now. I am not sure that was the truth.

I got these cupcakes for an Xmas gift and they were heavenly (I recommend the lemon cupcake). I think they had their own TV show - but I never saw it.
