I feel that she used to be so original - but her new stuff seems kinda strung out and Madonna-esque.

The Evilness that is Lady Gaga
by LouBelle intoday i got three seperate emails stating that lady gaga has sold her soul to the devil and is using her music and videos to further satan's goals.
they then go take the various symbology and wording in her music and videos and explain what they mean/represent.
she is rather wild and out there, and yes i'll admit she does use a lot of symbolism in her music videos.

Joining the Military. :D
by lucky1rish inso, i am in my early 20's.
i'm a firefighter, an emt, and hazmat technician (those guys that take care of chemical accidents), and i'm wanting more of a challenge in my line of work.
i've always loved saving people, i keep calm in frantic situations and i love the challenges.

I have a brother in the military - so first off - thank you for your service ! Second off, my brother also had a hard time breaking it to the family. My mom took it especially hard. She came to me crying that "your little brother is going to war ! He has to kill people!" ( she is a little high strung) (Not trying to shock you there by that statement, and although broad - even though you will be saving lives - you will always be a solider first.)
I explained to my mom that not everyone believes what you believe and that if we did not have people that went into our military, she would not have the freedoms she has. I emphisized that my brother was a "good kid" and that she raised us well.
I was not there when my brother broke it to my family, but he invited his recruiter over to explain to them the benifits and realities of it and perhaps this may help.
I think carla (above) explained it very well. I wish you and your soon to be bride the very best. Your country thanks you.

When and how did the GB start cracking down on the dubs social life?
by highdose ini can remember when i was first assimilated, the jw's did alot together, they went to the park together, they had picnics, days out together.. .
somehow by the 90's this had stopped.

I think its funny that the elders and the GB say you cannot have get togethers cause there is not proper supervision.....as if no adults are to be trusted and are like babies. Truely "big brother". Do you need a member if tge GB to attend to have "proper supervision?"
Growing up, I remember lots of picnics and baseball games. My family had lots of congregation gatherings are our house to. They are well attended. The did stop in the 90's - I was never sure why. Perhaps because there was so much pressure on those organizing the events from the elders , i.e. if anyone became out of line, they would be help respondsible.
I also remember haveing a Watchtower study on certain nights at a friends house. We were all teenagers, and I looked forward to them, cause you got to see all your friends, have dinner and afterwards do the study. I heard that was elimnated to.

Is the spring/summer weather in your area 'odd' this year?
by AK - Jeff inmuch of our spring was very cold, intermingled with the occasionally 'extreme' heat.
so far summer [which started this week] is cooler than any i can recall, but extremely wet and high humidity.
the entire house feels like a wet blanket.. the doom-sayer types are constantly remarking how this must mark 'something' if not the end.

It was 100+ degrees this week ....finally starting to cool down. It was a really wet winter, and although I am not eager for 100 degree weather, its nice to finally dry out.

DC Sunday Drama
by Billy the Ex-Bethelite inlet's call it a very ugly version of "joseph and the amazing technicolor dreamcoat" recreated as a musicless "a young life serving god ain't worth living.".
it included a highly fictionalized account of joseph being abused by his brothers for serving god and being loved by jacob.
there was no mention of joseph's dreams that degraded his brothers and father.

Depending on which DC you attended - you would have seen my brother who played one of the Egyptian guards. He even went to get a spray tan to be more "Eygptian" like.
He did not tell me the frame work of the story - so it was good to get that here.
I felt conflicted about posting this cause although I think its funny - but I used to be so close to my brother...now he is just a tool of this cult.

Has there been any recent counsel or articles advising JW's to avoid associating with 'inactives'?
by nicolaou ini ask because over the last few weeks i've noticed a marked 'cooling off' from my brother and sisters.
i don't think i'm being paranoid - has anything specific been printed lately?
bloody faith!.

I think this is why I thought I was dissfellowshipped for a while and thought they skipped on telling me. My brother acts so uncomfortable around me and his wife avoids me like the plague.
eh....I am not fond of them anyway.

This thread made me wonder - is this perhaps the reason why ANYONE would reach out for priviledges? So that you can at least have a break during the conventions and be in the back room cleaning, passing out books, etc.? Regular meetings are "short" compared to those long mundane conventions - which is were the real "payoff" would be?
I was really young when they quit doing the food prep, but I wanted to do that when I was a kid ! Those people got to leave their seats 30 minutes before the program ended to start the prep - I was jealous !
I allocated to the cleaning of your halls section at the conventions. I even help my grandma "gaurd" a contribution box a couple times.
My brother once got to gaurd the Cow Palace at night - I think they spend most of the night roaming all the remote and hidden rooms and running down all the halls.

What was the worst KH architecture/design you ever saw?
by BoleynGirl inthe first hall i attended as a study was built in the 1960s.
it was basically an orange brick box with aluminium framed windows.
there was no air-conditioning and it heated up like an oven in summer.

I remember our hall was pea green - leftover from the 70's. When they updated it in the late 80's, pink was all the rage. So now instead of pea green its peptmol bismal pink.
The Circuit Assembly Hall was a huge box with carpet that ran up the until wall with the print of rocks on it. I was actually sad to see that go cause they replaced it with (you guessed it) pink wallpaper. The rock print was atleast something you could count during those 8 hour meetings. UGH
