i can honestly say i never trusted the elders in my congregation; there wasnt a single one of them that i thought would be of any use what-so-ever in helping with a problem.
on the contrary, whenever i had to speak to an elder, i invariably felt worse afterwards!.

In all my years in this cult, I find it strange that I never felt the desire or inclination to 'spill my guts' to an elder. I guess that I knew that I would feel just like you.....worse after!! Kinda tells me something....

Good question Prisca! I had little chance to chat to her about the finer details of her trip - she is a free spirit type girl, does a lot of things on spec. although I’m sure that she will be doing a lot of planning for Aussie at this time.
She is still in Thailand at the moment, 1 month Thailand 1 month Aussie, so she has plenty of time. I will try to find out just what her plans are.

Hmmmm.....never tried them. There again there was a time when I would'nt touch prawns - now I just can't get enough of them! I would definetely like to try them...maybe the tip of a fork...lol
......there again I do belive that anything would taste good cooked in chardonnay and garlic!

I do think about this question quite a lot myself. Spirituality can take a person on some very strange roads to say the least! I have endeavoured to encourage my children to look closely at religion….any religion, study it whilst at school, look at it from every angle if possible. I do hope and believe that by doing this, it will help my kids avoid getting entangled in any religion/cult etc.
We live in age of information, I intend to use it as best I can. It’s certainly nothing like the time when I was deciding to dedicate my life to the men in Crooklyn. I really want my kids to be free from the chain of ‘religion’. Their ‘spirituality’ can be that of ‘doing to others as you would want them to do to you’ - and that’s it! By the way my kids are aged 8 & 10yrs.
my wife went to the convention yesterday and brought back the new book for children 'learn from the great teacher'.. it's certainly much better than the old pink book, larger and more colourful, even if the pictures have a 1950's feel to them.
the introduction mentions that there are questions throughout the book that you should ask children to find out what is on their mind... saying ' true, the child may come out with with answers that are not correct.
but the printed material that follows each question is designed to help the child to develop wholesome patterns of thinking'.... 'wholesome patterns of thinking' eh?
