Hey rileygurl,
Welcome!
I'm fairly new here myself, so I hope that you stick around.
There is a great bunch of people here, look forward to 'chatting' with you.
Any clues as to where you are from? I'm from the Northwest

as you read of all the "flip-flops" and the cover ups and even blatent lies that the gb has published throughout the years doesnt it make you wonder how they can do it.. if they really believe there is an all powerful being whom they represent how can they actively be so misleading and dishonest in full knowledge that he sees and knows what they are doing.. "9 for, as regards jehovah, his eyes are roving about through all the earth to show his strength in behalf of those whose heart is complete toward him.
you have acted foolishly respecting this, for from now on there will exist wars against you.

anglise,
I think you alone, have more of a conscience than all the GB put together!
Sure, they KNOW all the accusations that are thrown at them, and they continue. What can you say? They like it that way...they want to stay in their positions of control.
I am staggered that more witnesses are not leaving, as it is clear that the 1914 understanding is so open-ended... it's untrue.
I have been pondering as to what I would say to the GB, if I were to have an audience with them. I'll post again on this one

those of us who spent a good portion of our lives as slaves to the printing corporation in brooklyn do well to reflect on our achievements.
we have managed to break the cult shackles and get past the guilt barrier.
we are building happy, successful lives.

with logical's post in mind, i want to start a thread about something positive.
the wt are positively good at controlling their followers.. which is your favourite wt control technique, and why??????????.
the best contibution wins six million devoted worshippers and a 40 year conditional canonisation in the pages of the wt.. the one i like is so good because it works from 'on high' as well as among the orphans and widows at the congregation.
I think that the amount of meeting's is def. a good control tool, as there is no time left to THINK, especially if you have children. Sleep depravation, tiredness, are good for making sure that you cannot think clearly.... so you let others think for you!
I associate tiredness, with the schedule that I once had, when I was attempting doing everything that was required.
Feel much better now!!

the children.
there are many things that could be changed, and even though i would never go back, i think there are some very basic changes they could make in their child rearing practices, simple changes that would make a big difference in their society.. 1. don't force small children to sit for two hours in a chair.. this was discussed at length on the thread about slapping children at the kingdom hall.. 2. don't bring children to meetings where the subject has to do with adult sexual practices.. 3. don't tell teenagers that they can't ask someone out for a date unless marriage is on their mind.. 4. don't tell them that they are not special, that they have to humble themselves and be like everyone else.. 5. don't tell them they have to get good grades through high school as a reflection of what jehovah has given them and then tell them they can't go to college when they graduate from high school at the top of their class.. 6. don't tell your wordly neighbors that you give your children presents all through the year, but not on their birthday, when they have never seen a special gift wrapped present in their life.. 7. don't expect a shy child to enjoy going from door to door and don't expect an extroverted, lively child to sit still at meetings.. 8. don't tell an inquiring child not to ask questions and don't tell them not to read interesting books.. 9. don't surprised if you don't change your ways that your children will leave you, even though they love you.

That is so sick, yet, it is what is happening all the time at the meetings. I makes me SO angry, why can't they be child friendly, it would be a very appealing thing to any newcomers if the org. were more 'in tune' with children.
I feel for you, the ping pong bat, Outch!
I don't think that the org. will EVER change. That's why I've left, I wish that there was a middle road sometimes, but, there is not.
This is the shorten version of how I feel about the POOR JW children.
It's such a shame for them.
Latte
replying to a thread lower down made me wonder how did those who left the org years ago cope.. today we have access to virtually all the information in the world via the internet, so its not hard to find others who have had the same experiences that you have and to learn from them.. but even just a few years ago this was almost impossible.. when we came into the org in the early 1980's we did reseach as far as we were able but didnt find much in our local library.. so we were caught!!!.
those leaving the org back then must have felt isolated and even more frustrated then we do today.. i can remember being told about protesters outside conventions etc and that you musnt read their placards or take their tracts, but obviously it was the only way they had to try and help those inside the org see the real truth.. surely the thought of such an isolated existence kept many from taking the final steps to freeing themselves.. can any here relate to that.. .

Anglise,
What a good post.
I have an acquaintance, who has been inactive for 10yrs plus, he used to pioneer with his wife. They brought up all their children as JW's mostly 'successfully' However, I've recently discovered that he has had serious doubts for all of the last TEN years. He has always been viewed as an ODD person, because of being inactive, - even by his own family.
Somehow, (I'm afraid I'll have to shorten the story), he has discovered the INTERNET, and is, only NOW aware of the topics discussed on them. He is at last having his doubts confirmed. I only hope that he can get some regular access to all the other ex.jws who will be able to give him lots of support/advice, as his family do not have a computer, therefore, his access is limited.
I feel so sorry for this person, he still has to deal with his family, where 50% are still quite dedicated JW's.
So, when we post, I think it's good to think that we could be helping someone like this person, who I believe has been feeling very frustrated, sad, imprisoned. I think it must be a HUGE relief to know that he is actually RIGHT and no longer alone.
I feel a thank you is in order, for Simon, in having this site, all those who post here! THANK YOU!

people are stupid.
sometimes that is the only way to describe how certain things can happen.
especially is this so when panic, stress or hormones kick in which often serves only dilutes whatever common sense is left remaining.. a couple of examples:.
ChuckD dear brother,
You said
*****NO, NO, NO.....Not the "SCUBA Diver in a tree story again" That is a classic urban legend which
NEVER happened. Dozens of varients around, dating back to the 1980's; all of them just as
untrue. *****
Good job you told me you were referring to the SCUBA diver story! take out SCUBA diver and you could be talking about the 'TRUTH'
Anyhow, the 'truth gets brighter' maybe previous stories of this TRUE story were missing some finer detail. LOL
There could be some new person hear in attendance, so it's good to repeat yourself, repeat yourself. hehehe
So I'm going to post it again on humour

Go on then here's another.
Not mad funny though - or stupid. A friend of mine sent these stories to me by e-mail, certainly helped me realize that I was having a good day afterall!

Fire authorities in California found a corpse in a burned out section of forest while assessing the damage done by a forest fire. The deceased male was dressed in a full wet suit, complete with scuba tanks on his back, flippers, and face mask. A post-mortem revealed that the person died not from burns, but from massive internal injuries.
Dental records provided a positive identification. Investigators then
set about to determine how a fully clad diver ended up in the middle of a forest fire.
It was revealed that on the day of the fire, the person went for a
diving trip off the coast some 20 miles from the forest. The
fire-fighters, seeking to control the fire as quickly as possible,
called in a fleet of helicopters with very large dip buckets. Water was dipped from the ocean and then flown to the forest fire and emptied.
You guessed it. One minute our diver was making like Flipper in the
Pacific, the next he was doing the breast stroke in a fire dip bucket
300 feet in the air. Apparently he extinguished exactly 5'10" of the
fire. Some days it just doesn't pay to get out of bed.
This article was taken from the California Examiner, March 20, 1998.

That's a very good way of describing the internet, in relation to ex-JW's. Yes, it's certainly has been a kinda 'cleansing' - being able to 'offload' so to speak, it has been wonderful to do so here. Thanks everyone for listening to me.
