There is a Mennonite store near me, Called One Thousand Villages. It has many world products. They guarantee they do not exploit the crafters. This is the Mennonite Bible belt, which makes me uncomfortable, but the ambiance is very warm and welcoming.
I love One Thousand Villages. Glad you brought it up. I have one about 1.5 hours away, and have been trying to think of a place to find unusual gifts. As to the gift, I can call my Wiccan friend tomorrow and see what she says. It's not the same thing, but she knows a great deal about non-Christian religions---Christian religions too---but she steers clear. I know she and a friend recently opened a Pagan center, where many things happen, but they also have a small shop. So she knows where the merchandise is.

non believers what if your wrong ?
by unstopableravens ini do not wish to debate anything here like i have said in the past i have much respect for most on this forum (believers and non believers) i am simply wondering if the atheist or non god believers every worry about what if your wrong?
it seems that many who were jw for so many years attach jehovah/yahweh with the watchtower and since the wt is wrong than god does not exist.
i ask this question only because i care about people and salvation thats why i want to help as many as possable come out of this cult, and since i truly believe in god i dont know what is in the cinscience of those who dont.

I believe the point of comparison is that while the Jews did according to the law the right thing, people that never saw that law also often do the right things. So it's written on hearts. I think it was just a way of co-opting some pretty common human traits that are good, making it appear as though this god put it there, when in reality, people of all regions share some moral commonalities, regardless of religion, and likely the product of natural selection.

How important is evidence to your world view?
by snare&racket inhow important is evidence to your world view?.
if you had to make a decision on a fact being true, what would be the deciding factor for you... your feelings and faith, scriptural statement or evidence presented by modern science?.
would scripture trump evidence, or would faith trump scripture etc .

I don't know what point you are making, Ferd. We have (in America) a 70% chance of dying from a chronic disease. It's not a 100% chance. At least not until you get it yourself. So evidence shows that we have a 70% chance of dying from a chronic disease---and a 30% chance we will not. Are you asking us to be fortune tellers, and if we are not, we are not processing the evidence? Sorry---just don't get your point.
Everyone understands that we have a good chance of getting a chronic disease. We all hope it isn't us. Big deal? Refusing to accept the evidence would be the person who actually gets the disease and refuses to make adjustments and take medication because they are in denial.

Why do you insert acquittal into it to begin with? Genuine question
It's in the bible. Romans 6:7. You accepted that the wages of sin is death---do you also accept that death brings acquittal of sins? I did not 'insert' it, I was talking scripture.

sorry siz mik i think you are going off what the wt teaches about romans 6 :23 listin to the words what doing the paying sin or death the wages "sin" pays is death. meaning because we sin we die not we sin so death pays for sin please understand what im saying nothing but christ pays for our sins
You seem to be ignoring that the bible says that when we die, we are acquitted of our sins. And Tec, you go with the idea that we die because we sin (the wages) but brush aside the acquittal part (you said, not an acquittal). I assume you think that if we are not acquitted, then sentence is yet to be passed?

I find my criteria for evidence becomes stricter as the question gets bigger and more important. I may not second check if I ask someone the time. I can accept what they say if they have proven reliable in the past.
However when it is the bigger things, I ask myself some questions. What collaberates this? Is it an emotional, subjective, a con, then I need more evidence. Something I can test. Then I consider what the opposite views might be, and other possible approaches. I consider them seriously, I don't just give lip service to them. I check my sources and look for the agenda driving them. Agenda isn't necessarily a bad thing, but it's important to understand it. I read. I think. I consider other opinions.
It's a process. It's not easy, and I have to set bias aside as much as possible so that I can truly receive the information. I am always very wary of what people simply say, because I've had people in my life that will say the exact opposite of what the evidence shows. I'm dealing with that right now with my brother. He has a girlfriend, and she first would come and stay weekends. Then she started staying weekdays, and even though I don't see her much (she stays upstairs) she is there EVERY SINGLE DAY! And night. So it's been going on a couple of weeks, and my brother insists she has not moved in. Evidence shows otherwise, and I am now in the process of taking action. For him, unless she moves in furniture, she is not living here. For me, if she is here every f**king day, she is living here. They are trying to fool me, and it's not going to work.
So testimony is waaaaayyyyyy down on my list of good evidence.
