yesterday we were getting our van repaired and while that was going on we decided to window shop at a really cool furniture consignment shop.
i saw a baker's rack that was really nice and that i would love to have.
hubby looked at it too and thought it was a nice piece but we had to leave the shop to pick our van.

I wonder what they do if the youth doesn't have a "christian" parent---or if the parents are df'd, or Da'd. OR if they have one parent in and the other opposed and the opposed parent forbids such a circus. Even with a parent present it really is creepy. Until Gayle's post, I hadn't thought of it quite like that. Not that I thought it was okay, she just made me see yet another layer.

I would think, just the actioning of "judicial committees" that have an authority within the WT organization to take underage children, under 18, that have been baptized, into backrooms, without their parents, and ask personal sexual questions, of where?, how?, and how much? should require a type of governmental licensing restrictions and education. Many JW kids have had to go through a type of emotional abuse in these "jc" meetings. It is socially bizarre.
Gayle, this is a really good point. I wonder if it was presented just this way, how many authorities would give a little pause. I am a mother to a daughter and I would never have allowed this when she was a minor. It's twisted.

i was df'd when i was 20 or so for fornication.
i got reinstated when i was 24. i had a son during that time and i was worried about us if we didn't get back to the fold and 'protection' of the organization.

he told me that he was worried about me and that he wanted to speak to me as to why i havnt been going to the meetings or on the field service.
i told him that im just not discussing the reasons at all.

Tim, this is something that I have thought about without end. I can't figure how I managed to stuff my liberal brain into their conservative box. It was always a struggle. I don't know how I did it because it made me miserable and even angry. For instance, since we've talked a lot about homosexuality, I just never felt on board with them. My stomach would actually knot up when the subject came up. I thought that even if they believed it was immoral their reaction to it was completely out of balance. But I couldn't say anything! The most I could say was that homosexuality was not rated any worse than heterosexual fornication and therefore we didn't need to get all ruffled about it unless we had the same reaction to other sins. And yet even that rang hollow for me. I just didn't have this huge problem like they did. And that goes for a lot of other things too. Today I go to a church with a lesbian pastor and I have never been more comfortable in my entire life. How sad that they dismiss this phenomenal woman without even understanding how much she has to offer. The whole thing is sad.
I'm sorry the control has been taken from you. I definitely understand not wanting to make that jump. But I am happy for you too. I'm sure there will be some pain but it will be worth it. Let them go about in their own little world. You are fine now.

Jack, it's true you don't look at this situation like a JW and it makes it very hard to understand. These people have had many messages beat into their heads. One of them is that if they suspect "wrongdoing" they MUST go to the person and ask them to turn themselves in. They are taught to give a definite time limit and then they must actually go themselves. IF THEY DON'T then they are guilty of the exact same "sin" and risk their hope for everlasting life. His JW friend probably has a heavy conscience since he is buying into this bullshit. He probably thinks he is really helping his friend. And he probably feels better because he is taking care of this. It is really hard for an outsider to understand. When I would be talking to a friend, if their tone turned serious and they seemed to be in a confessional mood, I would beg them to please not tell me anything that could get them into trouble. I didn't want my conscience to bother me and I didn't want to give my friend an ultamatum. The Borg rules all. His friend at this very moment is probably praying about this and hoping that Tim can actually be "helped". That's how they think. Scary isn't it? I used to think that way too---and I am so sorry that I ever viewed the world that way. But when I was in, I was 100% convinced that the best thing I could do for my friend was turn them in.
I knew of one person that left because he was a homosexual. Anytime he was referenced it was with disgust. You can't break through that attitude.

i do feel that prodigal son and my posts were on topic, in a broader sense.. as for the formula one heiress, i find it an indication of something very very wrong in this world..
You know it's funny. Whenever believers talk about paradise or heaven it never has poor people, or sick people, or hungry people. And that's something they all claim to REALLY want. And yet, their "earthly course" proves otherwise. The same "christians" that crave these conditions deny health care to the poor, WIC to babies and pregnant women, education that would help keep people out of poverty. . . In their view that would all be anti-christian. And all this while working for an eternity where everyone would be cared for equally.
I'm not a true socialist---I do believe that people should have the opportunity to have more---I just believe it shouldn't be at the expense of basic humanity.

so this morning i decided to go see if i could find some interesting used books for my flight in a couple of weeks and i saw a jw from one of the local congregations...she didn't see me, even though she was directly behind me looking at the same section of books.
i'm not exactly easy to miss, but i digress.. she was on the phone and was talking about a few things that i found incredibly interesting.
firstly, i guess a woman that just got baptized last year is absolutely fed up with the org!
I'm white and used to go to a congregation with a fairly large mix of ethnicity---but it was still mostly white. I was very close to a young black woman---like a daughter---and I found myself running interference for her constantly. I really resented it. She took it good naturedly. Still it was wrong. She was always counciled on her speech by "mature" sisters--(although she had a tendency to slip into some slang her speech was just fine!) Then when she got a traditionally African American hair style, they tried to get ME to council her! NO WAY. She's cute as a button and the style was not extreme IF YOU WERE BLACK. Jerks. They wanted to to shoot for a traditional white style and were sooooo happy when she straightened it again and wore it like them. I suspect they got to her and made her feel bad. It was endless. I was much more irritated than she, but I think it was because being white, I may have sensed the subtle racism. She expected the best from everyone and I think she really didn't pick up on all of the "code" words. But then again, maybe she was used to it and took it in stride. I was appalled. I even heard one sister comment on her dancing at a wedding--said she looked TRIBAL. God I hated their hypocrisy.
