Went to my first meeting today anonymously!

hi everyone.. jack and i decided we would go to his local kingdom hall this morning.

although i have no interest anymore in being a jw, i think its still nice to have regular bible discussions, etc, which can give you something spiritual to think about each week.

i love it and i think its damn good for you.. today, jack and i walked in, a little nervous, but were greeted and welcomed like friends.

I am so puzzled right now. Timothy this is your decsion, but I'm a bit floored. You crave bible discussion. You probably have hundreds of churches in easy driving distance and even more bible studies and extra church activities. Why would anyone want to associate with a group that would reject and hate them if the group knew the true nature of that person?

Timothy, you need to think about this. Why a kingdom hall? The people that threw you out like garbage? Why would you EVER turn to them for bible discussion?

It cant all be evil can it?

Does it need to be? This is an odd question. It suggests black and white thinking. Is anything all evil or all good? A serial killer may volunteer at a food bank, rescue kittens and deliver meals on wheels. The only thing is he has a pile of dead bodies accumulating in his basement. Would you even THINK of asking such a question? But since you did, I think I'd like to answer it. They are evil enough for me to want to stay away forever. They are evil enough to break up families and let children die. They are evil enough to separage parents from children, grandparents from grandchildren and best friends from each other. They are evil enough to rob the promising futures of their young people pressuring them to sell magazines instead. They have pretty smiles. They work hard. They want to please their god. Does this lessen the evil they do every day? In my opinion--NO.

I wish you well Timothy, I really do. That's how I'm different than they are. They wish you would be filled with self loathing and hate. They wish you would step into the closet and throw away the key. They wish you would be overcome with guilt every day of your life. You are gay. They will NEVER accept that. And they will only blame you. You will never be able to reason with them. You will never change this. Unless you are willing to change yourself, their love is superficial at best. CAN you change yourself? I don't think so---but they do.

No I think a REAL nurse would be obligated to make sure a child got needed medical care, or risk losing her license. A REAL nurse wouldn't have believed an urban legend and would known how irresponsible it would be to accuse a 13-year-old girl of being sexually active. Because a REAL nurse, even if she believed the infection was brought on by having sex, would at least wonder about a little girl having sex---could it be abuse? I know some 13-year-olds are active by choice, but I think far more are not. If I thought a child like that was sexually active, my next question would be is she being abused---and if it seems to be by choice---has abuse hurt her decision making process?

The entire thing is so disgusting. Let's say she WAS sexually active. Shouldn't that piece of crap mother be concerned that her daughter is safe?

The convention brought on that UTI. She had to sit in this large auditorium for 4 days, not really drinking enough, not going to the bathroom enough, and that's all there is to it. But if you thought your 13-year-old was having sex, wouldn't you be concerned about the details?

Shunned by the window washer

over the many years my wife and i were captives of the watchtower organization we hired witnesses from time to time to heip us maintain our home.

one of those witnesses was a window washer who was quite good and reasonably priced so we have continued to use his services even after we faded 4 years ago.. so this year, my wife called to set up an appointment for him to come over and do our windows and he tells her he's not interested.

now this may be because he's so busy and overworked that he just can't fit us in or it could be that after four years of not being at meetings he has chosen to shun us.

This reminded me of a story I had forgotten about. Some years ago there was a single CO--which I think would be a very dangerous thing to be-- who went to one congregation and there was this single sister--pioneer. This pioneer said that the CO was getting to know her on a personal level and his questions felt kind of personal so she thought maybe he was interested in her. Toward the end of the week, he told her he wanted to ask her something. She thought he was finally going to ask her out and was truly excited. Then he asked, "How is your bladder?"

It turns out that he was aware of several sisters that quit being pioneers because of chronic UTI's. He didn't want to see that happen here, so he encouraged her to stay hydrated and not to hesitate to ask the car group to stop for bathroom breaks!

So much for her dreams of marrying a travelling overseer.

Talesin, oh I remember my second one. The very first symptom I was on the phone and my doc took me in an hour. I didn't recognize the signs the first time, so it got pretty bad before I understood it wasn't going away. I remember crying and rocking and muffling screams when I urinated. This was 25 years ago, and I still remember the pain in detail today.

Reading that woman's story made me break out in a cold sweat. That mother tortured her daughter. praisejah.

Why So Many Young People Are Leaving The Watchtower

i have been giving a lot of thought to the young people who are leaving the watchtower organization in recent years.

last night, i was reading the thread posted by jwfacts a while back in which he provided some statistics and graphs showing the rapidly declining growth in the watchtower.

one factor that was discussed at length was the high number of young people who do not stay in the organization.

The WT goal is to sell as much literature and recruit as many people possible with a minimum investment. Tailoring programs to the needs of teens and children will take money and time---both things the org greedily claims for itself.

Art supplies, books, music, a teacher to plan the activities all cost money and time. All this for people that don't donate. Then there are outings and activities that young people like, but again take time and money with no real return---when the return you're looking for is time and money.

This could extend into trips or summer camps. There is NO WAY the org would ever invest resources like this into the young ones. They'd rather go out and recruit people already in a position to donate time and money. And they'd need a suitable space to do this. Maybe a few as teenagers aren't interested in things a 6-year-old likes. The library just isn't sufficient. In many halls there is very little space between any extra rooms and the main hall.

This will never change. It is more profitible to keep the few young people that can tolerate the tedium, and to then bring adults, with wallets ready, into the hall.

ogod, I can barely stand thinking about that ride home. And such a young child! Sitting there miserable and in intense pain brought on by a heartless mother AND being accused of having sex! ogod.

UTI's are the worst. I've only had 2 and I will never, EVER, forget them.

Fury after reading Watchtower article for this week

I agree local elders have never been a financial burden for me. On the contrary, they often cover many costs from their own pockets. The CO's however---they are fully supported by the congregations. I believe they take something like a vow of poverty in that they agree not to seek outside employment so that they work for the org full time. I have heard of CO's getting into the game a bit late, after they've already got some wealth, and have chosen to be self supporting.

In the org, if you want to be a CO, there is no option but to be supported by the congregations---unless they are already independently wealthy.

LOL--so much for that undeniable conservative work ethic. Ah well we made it through those vacations, we'll make it through this. It's just misplaced resentment. Obama haters didn't even want him to have a birthday. I'm sure anything good his way just pisses them off big time.
