Actually sounds like a good idea. I've never had any in-person "apostate" conversations.

Review of Examining the Scriptures Daily 2012 absurdities
by jwfacts ini just endured the painful process of trudging through the 2012 examining the scriptures daily, looking for interesting quotes.
apart from being repetitively boring, it has managed to squeeze most of the watchtower's crazy concepts into a single book.
the comments concentrate on:.

"From 1879 onward, through thick and thin, they had been publishing Biblical truths about God’s Kingdom in the pages of The Watchtower." July 15
---BWAHAHA! One just needs to glance at a page of The Finished Mystery from 1917 to see falsehood of that statement. I guess what they are reffering to are the so-called"truths" like no hell-fire, trinity, etc. Those "major dotrines" are the ONLY ones they could possibly be refering to.
----> Thanx for the post. I enjoyed reading that.

Well, the pdf of the March 2012 WT is hot off the press!
by serenitynow! inand it does not disappoint.
the first century brothers are on the cover, going door to door with what look like leather messenger bags.. the first article is entitled, are all "christians" christian.
and you can tell by the picture that anyone with a beard or goatee is definitely not a real christian.. the next article, remain in my word has this quote that condemns catholics but seems eerily close to what jws believe:.

The caption on pg 12 reads:
"Is your opinion of Jehovah’s Witnesses
based on impressions or on facts?"On the actual page it states:
It is not surprising that unfavorable or disparaging remarks are made against those who endeavor to follow Jesus’ example. Why not? Because Jesus warned his true followers:“You will be objects of hatred by all people on account ofmy name.” But he encouraged them with the words: “He that has endured to the end is the one that will be saved.” —Matthew 10:22.
In obedience to Jesus’ command, Jehovah’s Witnesses today work hard to bring the good news of God’s Kingdom to people worldwide. (Matthew 28:19, 20) Those who flatly refuse to listen risk losing out on the opportunity of getting on the road to everlasting life. (John 17:3) What about you? Will you be guided simply by first impressions and preconceived ideas, or will you be willing to examine the facts with an open mind? Remember: Appearances can be deceptive, and impressions can be wrong; but an objective examination of the facts can result in pleasant surprises.—Acts 17:10-12.
---->Like all the "public" editions, it fails to mention that those who do not accept that message will die a terrible and everlasting death!
It's also interesting how JW's cannot apply these "open-minded" standards to themselves. For a JW to "be willing to examine the facts with an open mind" any other literature not designated by the WT society...is evidence of being "weak in the faith", and "not putting trust in Jehovah". These "public" editions are truly watered down.

Cults and Religion Program - The Military Channel
by Band on the Run inive been watching many wwii documentaries on what seems to be a new cable station, the military channel.
while i was watching hitler's last days tonight, i saw a notice that a show on cults and danger would be shown this coming week.
wednesday if i am correct.. the programming is not heavy history.

I was watching tv about a week ago and I foud myself watching a show on cults. (idr what channel it was). But it was focusing on one cult in particular where they feared the members would eventually kill themselves. One statement a commenter made that I agreed with was that "when a person, group or organization claims to be jesus, or the Messiah or to speak for Him, it is a very difficult thing to disprove".
Overall pretty interesting. I havent seen it on tv since....

Telephone Hookup if You Can't be Physically Present at the KH
by Band on the Run ini keep coming upon references dealing with a phone hookup if you must miss a kh meeting.
in my day, if you missed, you missed and celebrated the fact.
what is the procedure for the hookup?
-
stillstuckcruz
You have the hook-up(no pun intended) if your the family of one of the elders. My mom stayed home the other day, an my elder dad just gave her the PIN #. The "in" crowd I suppose.
One of the comments made at the meeting a few months ago was truly telling. The brother on stage said "Jehovah's spirit is here at the Kingdom Hall, not on the telephone". He was basically saying if you can be at the KH, then be there. I could only imagine was shut-ins and other's who, because of health reasons, were only able to listen in and not physically be there at KH must have felt when that statement was made. "No Holy Spirit for us I suppose..."

They're going to do what newspapers and magazines do when their readership is down...contact former subscribers and see if they would like to sign up again. So sad.
Great point pgparty.....whats your name....lol. Very true. Of course, in their minds, they honestly and sincerely believe that are doing right by you. They honestly hope that one will reevaluate leaving "Jehovah and His Organization"..whether it's by guilt or any other means. At our last district convention, a brother gave his experience of how he was disfellowshipped 3 or 4 times..."never learning my lesson". He said that was caused him to reevaluate was when his daughter said that she would be provided with a new daddy in paradise. Same principle I guess.
Unfortunately, JW's are booming in this tough economy, as are other cults. While they want those old members back, I don't see them dying or fizzling out anytime soon.

Haha thanx for the advice wasblind. I have, since middle school, always vowed never to be a drinker or smoker. I've gotten pretty darn good at resisting pressure. Thankfully, the friends I hang out with do neither. So I think I'm in good hands but will always be on my guard. :)

Thanking God For Food?
by dontplaceliterature inhave you ever considered the fact that by implication, when we thank god for food (if you do), we are also saying that he is responsible for the lack of food in the case of others who are not as fortunate as we are?
if you are acknowledging that it is god who is responsible for your physical well-being, and that you don't have plenty because of your own sensibility and hard work, then what about those who are not physically well?
what about those who do not have enough to eat?

This is one of the things that makes it so difficult to accept a God. The ONLY reason I believe in a God in the slightest is because of my JW upbringing. "God does this, and this, and this, and this....etc, etc." but at the same time, what DOES he do? If we are provided so well for materially and otherwise, what about other God-fearing people who are suffering and have nothing? They could be more spiritual that those ones who are well off, but still they suffer immensely.....
I will neither deny completly nor accept that there is a God. As LeavingWT once said, I've accepted "I don't know" as an answer.

So I've been in the BORG for 20 years. And in two months I hit 21. I am technically still in and my parents don't know about me yet. So I plan on celebrating my Bday with just a few friends from high school. I don't plan on getting drunk or anything. Just one drink would be nice. All my friends know of my current situation even if they don't understand it. For them, bday's are second nature. I will feel all awkward and stupid. Still...it will be nice to do for a change.
How did you feel upon celebrating your first birthday?
