Watching TV, JW wife can see a problem with a fictional cult
by OnTheWayOut inso the jw wife and i are watching the mentalist (cbs crime investigation show) and the crime is the murder of a former cult member of a fictional cult; the visionaries.
the first policeman on scene is a visionary who tampered with the scene to remove evidence that a visionary killed a former member.
my wife says "he's going to risk his career and violate the law to protect someone he probably does not even know.

According to Steven Hassan, this is an effective method of planting seeds of doubt so that when, and IF, someone that is in a manipulative mind-control cult is ready to begin questioning, the pieces will the more easily and readily fall into place.
^Agreed. I was talking to a friend the other day. He is not baptised but believes it is the "truth". So I explained to him something that happened with the mormon church regarding a doctrinal flip flop. I asked him how could God be revealing something that flip flops? He agreed and said that makes ZERO sense. That was my window.....I explained just one doctrinal JW flip-flop and he was SHOCKED! Now he is in the midst of research.
Creating an outside scenario does work. But its amazing just how often a JW will say how something does not make sense, or is awful without realising the very same situation is prevalent in their own. Great job though OTWO...never know where those little seeds will land.

"Ooooohhhh I just CANT WAIT for Armageddon!"
by TimothyT inin my congregation i could name at least 10 brothers, and likely more, who just couldnt wait for armageddon to come.
the way they spoke about it clearly showed that they were just so excited.
you could just see their eyes light up at the prospect of the wicked being destroyed and removed from this earth.

People seemed to be happy for it for different reasons. Some just couldn't wait for their problems to be over. Some wanted to see specific family members at the resurrection. Generally speaking, many had good motives. It was the "side effects"(i.e billions murdered) that generally don't seem to be given as much thought.
I remember in Ray Franz book ISoCF, he mentioned the brother from the bkstudy who was so happy that the last of his non-witness family members had died. It's terrible to think that someone could feel that way. But that's what JW doctrine has promulgated in people's minds

Baptism
by new one ini just wanted to ask a question as regards jw baptism.
i already know that just before the actual baptism the soon to be jw has to answer 2 questions, but what i'd like to know is this: during the actual baptism do the jw's stick to matt 28:19 "baptizing them in the name of the father and the son and the holy spirit" ?.
thanks in advance for any help.. i'd also like to know if it would be possible to speak privatly with one of the more experianced members.

What I find hilarious and ironic is when my mom talks about Disney and their beards. When asked why they changed the policy, she scoffed and said "they finally caught up with 2012. Come on!" I had to laugh at the ironic statement by my die-hard JW mother.

To be fair, the WT last year in one of the KMs stated that they're not trying to pressure people and that people shouldn't view their encouragement within the literature as such, but rather view it as people cheering from the sidelines.
^And that, I believe is where the real pressure starts. The literature , although printed and written by men, is guided by God's Holy Spirit(at least that is what most believe anyway). And so, who do they really believe is doing the "cheering"? Man or God? "GOD is cheering you on!""He wants you to do the best in His service"
I believe that's where the real pressure starts....

Great quotes as alway Blondie!!!
A couple of years ago(maybe last year) at a District Convention, there was a talk given called "Questions About The Kingdom Answered".
I took detailed notes on this talk for reference purposes. Here were a few points:
Were there always annointed ones throughout histroy?
---------Yes. Jesus said "all the days until the end of this system..."----Matthew 13:30-"...collect the weeds...""Let both grow together until the harvest". ----------->During 1700's- William Winston rejected the Trinity teaching. Anointed? unknown. There were always anointed ones on Earth since Jesus time.
Psalms 87:5,6-"Jehovah will record the peoples"[Basically so we don't have to bother explaing away why we can't explain it...]
--------Does having the names of anointed ones have practical value?-------Brothers should not be judged for professing to have a heavenly calling
___________________There were some other points mentioned in the talk that I wish I had taken down now. Crazy teachings. But most won't bat an eye or even be concerned with it. "We can't figure out who those 'anointed' ones were and there's really no need to know." Basically "the organization tells us so....and so it is". THEY HAVE SPOKEN!!!!

Based on those articles, I keep imagining people like this:
If they have a beard like the one below, I seriously doubt that in this day and age, people would be so repulsed by a person that they refuse to listen or acknowlege them. ...or that they are in some way "undignified".
COME ON PEOPLE! You know it's bad when even Disney allows neat beards!!!!

Something interesting
by d ini was looking into two bibles by the jw's.
one was written in 1909 which was called the the holy bible american standard version.
the other obviously the new world translation.
