among them are hymenaeus and philetus, 18 men who have gone astray from the truth saying that the resurrection has already taken place, and they upset the faith of some.. how were they saying the resurrection had taken place?

These very men have deviated from the truth, saying that the resurrection has already occurred; and they are subverting the faith of some.” (2 Timothy 2:17, 18; see also Matthew 18:6.) There is nothing to indicate that these men did not believe in God, in the Bible, in Jesus’ sacrifice. Yet, on this one basic point, what they were teaching as to the time of the resurrection, Paul rightly branded them as apostates, with whom faithful Christians would not fellowship.

If it was God that tipped the bomb backwards, (rather than just a poorly designed and placed bomb), he didn't do a very good job about it. If God really did something and this really was a "miracle" as Brother Mouritz stated in the article, God could have just prevented the bomb from going off at all, or at least protected everyone.

@jwfacts: What are you talking about? It is so VERY obvious that the ones who were hurt were not pioneering or"putting God first". They likely missed the meeting the day before. God tipped the bomb to assist only those who were most faithful to the organization and "slave". There.....mystery solved. :P

Discussion with my dad about 607 in a week,,,,help?

so to make a long story short, my family found out about my "apostacy"(i couldn't take it anymore) and now everything is all in shambles.

they still feel there is "hope" for me.

So to make a long story short, my family found out about my "apostacy"(I couldn't take it anymore) and now everything is all in shambles. They still feel there is "hope" for me. (HA!). I wrote a 10 page letter to my dad basically outlining the majority of issues. It still only covered a marginal amount of information that I wanted to put it. But the simpler the better I guess. One of the sections was about 607. In short what I put in there about 607 was not was not some deep doctrinal analysis but mainly what methods have been used by the Society to support it(misrepresentation and misquotations). I also placed in how it related to the historical evidence regarding 537BCE and why the same evidence that is used there are discarded or discredited for 607, etc.

Anyway, in a week,maybe less, he wants to discuss that date and why I don't support it. Keep in mind that my dad is an elder(one of the more reasonable ones) and is also a math wiz. So is there anything I can use that will show him that it can't be correct? I want to keep it simple as too much info will help no one. lol. His defense was the typical JW responce...that JW's rely only on the bible and not worldly historians, who don't have a love of the scriptures bla bla bla. He also said that non-JW sources rely on the Gregorian calender while JW's rely on the lunar calendar or some other nonsense.

But anyways, any help you can provide will be GREATLY appreciated. I'll be posting my situation in another thread at some point in time.

I started reading the 96 comment posted under the pics of the Borg. I couldn't even get a third of the way down before I wanted to slit my eyeballs. I never rolled my eyes so much in my life.

To them, yes. They think of it as "putting God(WTS) first". Anything else that happens is likely a "blessing in disquise". Add these to the fact that constantly hear experiences of ones basically pissing off employers, losing their jobs, etc in order to participate in a JW event and later they recieve a better job or something. It's all about what God(WTS) wants

Leaving WT: I always said tha about prayer. A striking similiarity to the placebo effect and that is what I believe prayer is. JW's, in particular seem to throw prayer into EVERYTHING. Think you coundn't POSSIBLY have preached to that man without that Holy Spirit? Think there's NO WAY you would have survived that procedure without God? People seem to think their helpless without it. Of course, some believe stronger than others and it's entirely up to them

Two new experiences.....

all of you share your experiences about encountering jw's and i enjoy them so much....here are two that just happened over the weekend for your enjoyment.. so as you all may know last december i was officially labeled by the borg.

so now all jdubs must shun me who have known me since birth and thereafter.. i had a booth at a local festival this saturday and a jw was the chairman of this years deal.

so he is also a photog and he was going to each booth and taking a picture of it.. he did the one right beside me and then did a wide half circle to get to the next booth on the other side so as not to get to close to the new town apostate.
