hey all, hope you're having a great year so far.. before witnet was closed down, there was an interesting discussion regarding the fds and their failed prophecies.

i asked a question, but unfortunately there wasn't enought time to get everyone's view.. so i'll rephrase my posts, and wait to hear from y'all.. if we are so quick to say that the fds is a false prophet because of some failed prophecies (even tho they say they don't prophecy, we all know better) then how would you explain the bible book of jonah?.

a faithful prophet, jonah, followed (after much trial and tribulation to himself) jehovah's command to declare destruction on the city of nineveh.

i have 3 sisters still in the org.

is it still called the "org"?

2 of them maintain no contact, one because i'm an evil apostate, the other is two faced about it(nice on the phone 2x a year, but does not let anyone know about the contact) the 3rd is pretty cool about it, we e-mail alot and i call monthly( all live 1200 miles away).

this policy is unethical and immoral in my opinion.

Just wanted to say, I think this kind of thing happens a lot more than we would like to admit.

People don't make this stuff up.

But you know, like any other sickness, the first step to curing it is to acknowledge it. The same rule applies to the WBTS. They really need to concern themselves with making things right with past and present members before they concern themselves with recruiting new members. They need to make the congregations the place for unconditional love that Jesus preached, STOP judging those who don't deserve it and START judging those who do.

Methinks, though, that they will never admit publicly their wrongdoing in any way shape or form. That THEY gave out bum info, and bum advice, and that their advice has HURT PEOPLE'S LIVES. And they need to own up to it, like real men.

What we are talking about is whether or not a special group of those who make up the FDS have ANY authority at all.

Yes it is an illustration. Yet, none of us doubt the application of scripture that refers to a wicked slave class; logically then there would be a counter-application of the faithful class.

Jesus frequently asked and answered his own questions.

"How then, should we pray? You should pray this way..."
"Which one among you is without sin? Let him cast the first stone."
"Who really is the faithful and discreet slave whom the master has appointed...?"

No, the application here is very real. In the illustration, though, it wasn't until the master returned that the identity of the FDS was revealed. "But," someone might say, "Wouldn't you be able to identify the wicked slave class by their actions? and the FDS by their actions?" You'd think so, huh? But the FDS didn't get recognized or rewarded until the return of the Master.

The question here, is has a group of almost exclusively white, elderly white men, set themselves up as the leaders of the FDS? And, is a GB necessary when there is an entire class of 144,000 who speak on Jesus behalf?

Have you ever read some of those life experiences of the annointed? They feel an almost wierd call to devote their ENTIRE lives to preaching the Gospel. I can tell ya, that ain't me. There are people of every walk of life, every culture, who feel drawn to Jehovah and Jesus in a special way. Whether 9 of them should be a 'Governing Body' remains to be seen.

Even Jesus said there would be those who performed MANY powerful works IN HIS NAME, and yet then he would confess to them, "Get away from me you workers of lawlessness. I never knew you."

Tru enough, but you can't get around the scripture stating Jehovah will use the foolish to put the wise to shame.

I guess in some ways I would apply that scripture to the FDS. Yes, plain foolish about some of their reasonings, which has alienated millions who really do want to serve Jehovah and give praise to his son Jesus without whom no salvation at all would be possible.

'2/3 vote' doesn't really bother me, because even Jesus' handpicked disciples couldn't decide whether Jesus was restoring the kingdom to earthly Jerusalem. Which is proof in and of itself that true Christians CAN and ARE confused about the application of Bible prophecy, no?

For me personally, I think the FDS have failed in particular by the mass printing of books, thinking the masses will be ultimately able to rely on the message contained within for their salvation. Of course, our salvation singly rests on our acceptance of Jesus as our Savior and our willingness to express love to all of our neighbors, and Jehovah our heavenly father.

In addition, of course, we have until recently had a GB that looked like any poster of the past Presidents of the United States. Elderly white men whose past has also influenced their present beliefs. No 'world culture' represented by the GB. What?!? Jesus right-hand men are only old white people? No one else is worthy?

That to me, is where the GB have failed. Does anyone remember the 1970's documentary on 60 minutes, "Cracks in the Watchtower?" I wouldn't be surprised to see an updated story.

With all of the disappointment I've read on this and H20, it seems obvious the anger here is directed toward a man-made organization, and not our heavenly father Jehovah, no?

I'm really looking hard for other examples of Jehovah changing his mind in the Bible, if you know of any please!!! post them.
