it traces its roots to the celtic festivals.. "apples and hazelnuts, both viewed as products of sacred trees, were used to divine information concerning marriage, sickness, and death.
And they call this the 'meat' of God's word?
This is the 'deep spiritual food' that JWs are being fed? More like pablum to me.
Can they really condemn such an innocent activity based on its 'Celtic' or 'Pagan' roots?
And if so, should any JW really be wearing a wedding ring? Or having a bridesmaid?

ok, so i moved out on saturday.
i am not 18 for 17 more days but my mom asked me to leave early all the same.
on friday things got hairy, we had jw friends from out of town visiting, and i exploded.
Katie, good for you honey.
But beware, impulsiveness is a trait most young people have. Just make sure it doesn't burn your bridges.
If there is one lesson in this life I wish I had learned earlier, it is this:
DON'T burn your bridges. With family or anyone else. If they want to 'burn' you, let them. You can't control it.

The best piece of advice I can offer you is GET A FULL TIME JOB immediately. This way, you won't be at anyone's advantage. Always carry your own weight. Take a year off, work full time and party safely. Then go to college and live your life.

(PS--to the rest of the world, I'd be real worried if I was you. Think back to the 1998 embassy bombings. They killed 300+ Kenyans and wounded 5,000 just to kill 12 Americans. BELIEVE me, it will touch every country.)

i had my jw father tell me that green shirts were rebellious, and an elder said that star wars was demonic, just to give a couple of examples.......
The fact that this a$$hole classifies 'The Jitterbug' as a 'modern dance' shows how out of touch with reality he is!

well, i just received a letter from my mom and i dont know how to describe my feelings at this time.
i thought id share parts of it with you and see what yall think.
i will delete names and add my own words in parenthesis to describe whom shes talking about.. after a few lines of small talk she says this..........i do want to tell you, since (you and your husband) have rejected the truth, i am so glad (your son) is not old enough to join or be drafted into the military.
Ranch I should remind you, I'm having the pregnancy from hell. I'm not DFd or DAd and still my mother hasn't picked up the phone once to call me. I'm 7.5 months now, I've already made it clear to my Dad I don't want her out here when the baby is born. Why should I open myself up to criticism about how I care for a baby from someone who didn't even care enough to call me?
You too will get to the point where you won't open yourself up for this hurt. Until then, the best thing you can do is say "I love you mom but I don't agree with you." This has worked wonders for me and my sister.

when i was a teenager, there was a young lady early 20's who had moved into our cong.
she had a newborn son and had just married her worldly boyfriend, the father of the baby.
Here's one I posted on another thread, but in case you missed it...

My sister da'd herself about 5 years ago over gambling. The local elders were intent on prying into her personal business. Why do I say personal? Because she isn't married and has no kids, and gave more than her share at the hall.
Well they didn't like it, because she was a high stakes gambler that was her job and she would show up at the hall dripping in gems and shit, and most of the elder body except my father lived in a double wide. One of the elders got so mad he had to leave the room, after she told him one night's take equalled his annual salary. (HE ASKED.)
So you can see this caused problems. They formed SEVERAL judicial committees, and my sister was nice enough to tolerate them all.
The last straw? She told them, she was more than willing to stop gambling and just say she would wait on Jehovah for refinement. Of course, she had done all of her own research and was able to stupify them by asking them to draw comparisons between stock market and gambling--how did they differ?
Anyhow, the elder body told her they wanted to hear her say the words "I think gambling is wrong." and she refused to .... So they gave her 7 day notice of DF, and she wrote out a DA letter.
PS First this went all the way to the DO who recommended they stop prying but they claimed 'some' in the cong. were being stumbled by seeing a young woman dripping in cash with no job.
Of course, the only ones who saw her contribution checks were the elders, and although they cashed them happily still had the balls to question 'Where was she getting her money?' When they found out, they never offered to return any of it.
