I need that "special knowledge" that the end is near. Funny, I heard that in 1958, 1967, 1975,1989,1995 ad nauseum. Could I get clarification from the GB on their explanation of the word "near"? Near as in the nearest galaxy? Near as in the the distance to the sun? Near as in the creation of the solar system? One would think with all that holy spirit flowing into those lying bastards they could be a little more precise.

Do you view the word "Apostate as derogatory"
by mankkeli ini just want to know how friends feel about the word "apostate" when being used to refer to them?, do you feel relegated?..

Only those who knowingly take a stand against God himself can be accurately labeled as "Apostates". As there is no true religion today, the phrase is meaningless. The closest group to being apostates today would be the governing body as they have a fairly accurate understanding yet have, as the Scribes & Pharisees of old, turned their back on truth. And worse yet, have blinded the minds of the masses. I really miss the concept of a burning Hell as these guys really deserve one.

by elderelite inwell, stole retroactively.
a friend pointed out a glaring omission in the book of bible stories.. well frankly a bold faced lie of omission!.
its a tragedy but fact that most of us raised as dubbie kids learn the bible from the "my book of bible story's"... story 15 is about lot and his family leaving sodom.

I like salt. So, does that mean if the ex had turned to salt & I licked her that I would be guilty of oral sex?

on the subject of elders reading this message board
by cptkirk ini'm still laughing to myself thinking about elders/bethelites reading this messageboard.
yet another contradiction to throw in the basket.
didn't they always say how dangerous it is to read anything that contradicts the teachings of the wts?

Thanks Juan for the info. It's things like these that give me hope that people within are waking up & may be willing to free themselves from just one more manmade religion. I live in upstate NY near a large concentration of Mennonites. I used to feel so sorry for these people who had sacrificed so much in the name of religion. I thought to myself " If your going to make those sacrifices, you better be sure it's the truth." I never thought that one day I would be making that critique of my own life. I wasted 50 yrs. of my life. All that time in meetings, conventions, field service, judicial meetings, quick builds, etc. etc. Missing out on a normal childhood. All these life decisions predicated on the belief tha the end was near. If your still in & have been considering leaving, don't waste another minute of your life. Good luck.

I especially look for them in public places. I go up to them & in front of everyone say "Hi, how are you?" I can't tell you the satisfaction I get watching them stare at their feet & look all embarrassed. Some actually will talk to me. The rest skulk away. I finally realized that it's them that rightly should feel guilty & I do whatever I can to help them along.

I believe many elders like myself have known for quite some time that many beliefs are false:
1. The meaning of "generation. 2. 144.000 being a literal number. 3. Millions now living will never die. 4. "New Light" 5. Prophetic Failure. 6. The iron grip of the governing body. 7. That this or any other religion is approved & is directed by "Holy Spirit". 8. That the GB should be followed blindly. 9. That 1914 was the beginning or end of anything.
By now, many have figured out this is not nor ever was, the true religion. Unfortunately, many have invested far too much to walk away. So they cling to that vague & distant promise of everlasting life. You've got to admit that is a powerful incentive. And they have that comfort blanket of the "organization" to hold on to. If you are an elder & have found yourself in this dilemma, you have my sympathy. I understand.

Shepherding Call Coming Up
by dontplaceliterature inwell, my wife and i are supposed to be visited by a couple of elders soon, as part of a "regular shepherding program".
i am a ministerial servant in our congregation and our circuit overseer has been busting the boe's chops each visit lately for not having a program in place for shepherding.
it was previously done on an "as needed" basis, but i guess he cracked the whip pretty hard on this last visit so they are going to try to get down to business.

As an elder who made regular sherpherding calls, I'll give you this advice. Divulge nothing to the elders. Be polite. Read the appropriate scriptures. They don't want to be there any more than you do. When they ask you if you have any problems/questions, the answer is no. Smile. Ask them if they'd like tea/coffee/whatever. They won't be back for a while unless they believe your situation warrants a second visit. Quite frankly, even if you have a problem, these are the last guys you want to ask for help. Hope it goes well.
