The cult refuses to celebrate birthdays & holidays even though there is no direct Biblical edict in doing so. They claim there is sufficient evidence to formulate a principal instead. OK. Let's apply that principal to the very beginning of the cult. You would expect for something this monumental to be directed from the voice of Jehovah himself. Not the case. Russell plagiarized his belief in 1914 from John Aquila Brown, a Seventh Day Adventist. John had been throwing dates at a dart board for decades as to when Armageddon would start. After a number of tries, he hit on 1914. Russell picked up on this & they hit a winner. Now, back to holidays. The underlying principal as to why JW's don't celebrate is that the origins are pagan. It doesn't matter how people today feel about the holiday, the origins are all important to Jehovah. That being the case, I put it to all Witnesses. Do you think Jehovah would approve of a religion that has it's origin in Christiandom? I think not. You are a false religion and as you recall Revelation's call to flee from false religion, it's time to leave.......

It's a question of risk over freedom. Where do you let the government draw the line. Think 60,000 Americans who have died of this disease warrant the government to decide your freedom? Try 480,000 Americans who die every year from smoking. Should we allow the government to outlaw cigarettes? How about other activities that have risk? Lowering the speed limit to 55 MPH would save 10,000 lives every year. What we're talking about is having the government & not you decide what is acceptable risk. If you believe this pandemic could kill you, feel free to use all necessary precautions. Stay at home. Wear a facemask. Hell, wear a Level A spacesuit. It's your right to decide what level of risk you're willing to take, not the government's.

No one in their right mind would vote for Biden. This guy can't string three sentences together coherently without looking like an idiot. He's not called "Creepy Joe" for no reason. He became the last choice of the Democratic Party. Let that sink in; he's the party's best shot to beat Trump. I wouldn't be surprised if the next four years becomes the slow demise of the Democratic Party. And that's all due to their own self destruction. Unfortunately, the country needs that balance provided by both parties.

having commented earlier on experts' differing views, here's a prominent german physician/politician - wolfgang wodarg - who made controvorsial statements that the coronavirus "pandemic" is not out of the ordinary and that italy's mortality rate (8,215 deaths from coronavirus so far) is no greater than it would normally be from the 'flu virus.
in 2017/18 approx 18,000 italians died due to the flu.. the wikipedia section - controversial theses in the 2020 covid 19 crisis - is worth examining.

China, with a population of 3.3 billion had deaths totaling 3,304. Keep in mind the government squashed this for 2 months before admitting publicly they had a problem. Deaths currently from the virus are zero. This was over a period of 4 months.

Rec'd a letter from my Dad - need some advice...

not one to get all controversial.. typical situation, pretty much a born in and left the church at age 38 and never looked back.. i'm 53 now, parents getting older - late 70s but very active, dad is still an elder.. parents, in laws, brother and brother-in-law still uber active jws.. my family (wife and 2 adult children) out since 2005.. we have stayed close to our parents - we have treaded religion lightly and have had a pretty good relationship and have kept our personal lives and beliefs/opinions separated from them.
this was intentional - as we love them and do not want anything to cause shunning since they are getting older and want to be there for them and we respect their beliefs.. got this letter today.

You will not win in this situation. Say nothing. Have no contact. I know it's hard. I disinherited my oldest after she felt the need to shun me. It's been 12 years & I have my own family to attend to. Blood only makes relatives; not families. Move on.

Stupid armageddon false alarms
by purrpurr inwhen i was 5/6 i remember being in the car with my jw mom and a jw sister.
they noticed a yellow ish glowing cloud in the sky which really freaked them out and they both declared that it must be a sign that armageddon was here!
they then spent the whole car trip declaring that the police and army were about to come and round up all of us.
