They have never said these words are from God, but on numerous occasions they have claimed to be Gods prophetic organization.

Has the WTS ever made a prediction that came true?
by Leander inthis morning a thought occured to me "has the society ever made a prediction or prophecy that has come true"?.
most of us are familiar with the prophecies or dates the wts has emphasized in the past.
of course all of those predictions never proved to be accurate so the question is, "if this is god's prophetic organization where is the proof"?.

A prophet is a person who by divine inspiration fortells events that are to take place in future. I could be wrong but I can't remember the Society ever making a prediction that was accurate.
Can someone else comment on this? Maybe I've overlooked something.

The disturbing thing about ALL religions
by Leander inover the past couple of years i've been really questioning myself about why i have doubts about the wts and even the bible.. even though i've been raised as jw all of my life i've often felt that i was'nt really a religious person.
unlike some of the people around me i just could'nt (and still can't) work up any excitement about the bible.. so after much thought i've come to the conclusion that the disturbing thing about all religions is that fear is emphasized more so than love.
some might argue and say that the bible teaches just the opposite, some will no doubt think about the scripture "god loved the world so much that he sent his only begotten son".

Yerusalyim - I can understand why you reason the way you do. People should have to answer for their actions and deal with the consequences. However should the entire planet need to suffer because of the mistakes of 2 people? Should all of mankind be mislead and antagonized by powerful and wicked spirit beings?
To illustrate lets say you built a house for your spouse and your 8 kids. You and the spouse decided to go away on vacation and left the 2 oldest children in charge. While you were away those 2 children damaged the house, they destroyed the electrical and plumbing system and in addition to all of those things they tormented their younger siblings. On returning to the house would you simply allow all of the children to suffer the consequences of the older two or would you punish the two who were responsible and allow the other children to be judged or dealt with on their own merit.
I would say most loving parents if not all, would do all they could to make sure the innocent children were taken out of that situation.
This is what makes me doubt the bible
JanH - Good point I should been more specific instead of saying all religions

Here's my 2 cents:
Basically this can be summed up in 3 or 4 sentences. First off the Society has taught for years that any religion that supports the UN is in effect committing spiritual fornication with Satan's organization. With that being said the question is now "Does the society support the UN by its NGO status? We can answer this question by referring back to the requirements of an NGO which are:
- Share the ideals of the UN Charter
- Have a demonstrated interest in United Nations issuesNo more really needs to be said.

I read something disturbing in this Sunday's past Watchtower. I forget the exact paragraph but there was some information that was saying that God will bring about an end to this wicked system not to ease human suffering but to vindicate his name.
This really bothers me, basically we are taught to view God as our father because we are his children. So in that sense if your children were in mortal danger would you rescue them so that they might live and not suffer or would you rescue them so that your name will be honored.
I'm not trying to judge God (not intentionally anway) but how can we feel close to Him and truly love God if our lives don't mean anything to him. The reason so much human suffering is taking place right now supposedly is because God is allowing time to pass to see who has the right to rule God or man. So for thousands and thousands of years innocent people must suffer because of an issue between God and Satan. Maybe its because of my imperfect mindstate but I can't understand why a benevolent God would allow such a thing to take place.

Define the term "apostate"
by Leander inapparently there are several different definitions for apostate especially from the society's point of view.. .
personally i've always thought that an apostate was a person who used lies, slander and half-truths to cause others to stop serving god.
but according to the wts an apostate could be a person who causes someone to have doubts about the society regardless if the information they are presenting is the truth.. .

Apparently there are several different definitions for apostate especially from the Society's point of view.
Personally I've always thought that an apostate was a person who used lies, slander and half-truths to cause others to stop serving God. But according to the WTS an apostate could be a person who causes someone to have doubts about the society regardless if the information they are presenting is the truth.
In my little talks with the elders from my congregation and my chat with my father-in-law who is a PO they all dismissed the information that I researched as being from an apostate source or nature. But the facts are that the information that I looked up was 100% percent accurate.
Some of the things that I've learned are:
The multiple dates that the society predicted or emphasized that were erroneous
The swaying back and forth on various doctrines (blood, oral sex, govermental involvement)
The society's association with the UN
The obvious untruth about when the society recognized the importance of 1914
The society's claim to be a prophet but thus far have been unable to accurately predict any significant event
These are the different areas of research I have looked into that I have been able to confirm as truth. But yet they are simply dismissed by many in the org as apostate teachings or propaganda.
So again it makes you wonder what is the definition of an apostate.

Is the UN 'scandal' the big one ?
by Simon inlooking at the stats, there are well over 14,000 views of the thread about the un.
the next 'most read' thread is around 9,500 so it is clearly a burning issue.. i wonder if the involvement with the un is the biggest threat to the wts?.
they are getting badly burnt because of their covering up child abuse and www.silentlambs.org is doing a great job of raising the profile of this but even so, i can see the 'mental defense mechanism' of many jws excusing this as 'individuals imperfection'.. they cannot excuse the gb getting in bed with the un.

What really irritates me is that if you mention this to a JW they will try to rationalize or come up with some excuse as to why the Society has a relationship with the UN.
But here's the real issue, undoubtedly some people will be stumbled by this and may eventually give up belief in the bible. If this was really God's spirit-led organization would he allow them to cause others to lose their faith and possible lose their loves?

It seems like every other week I'm learning new things about the Society. Not too long ago some brothers from my congregation were talking about what to do if someone gave you a lottery ticket. One of the brothers mentioned that according to the Society's publications if a person was given a lottery ticket that he should throw it away or else it would be a violation of bible principles.
So in light of that information it seems to me that accepting a gift of stock interest in a weapons manafacturing company would be a gross sin. Particuarly when the news gets out they could be responsible for stumbling many individuals.
Its just amazing what goes on that the average member of this organization has no clue about.
Does any know if there are links to websites that detail this information?

Over the past couple of years I've been really questioning myself about why I have doubts about the WTS and even the bible.
Even though I've been raised as JW all of my life I've often felt that I was'nt really a religious person. Unlike some of the people around me I just could'nt (and still can't) work up any excitement about the bible.
So after much thought I've come to the conclusion that the disturbing thing about all religions is that fear is emphasized more so than love. Some might argue and say that the bible teaches just the opposite, some will no doubt think about the scripture "God loved the world so much that he sent his only begotten son". I can't argue with the fact that sending Jesus to die for our sins is a loving action but I also can't dispute the fact that much of the bible is focused on individuals and nations who suffered because they wanted to choose for themselves how they wanted to live their lives.
All through-out the bible there is a repeating thread or message which is basically "you do things my way or you die". There are no other alternatives or options, either you do things this way or else you'll lose your life. Because of this it annoys me when I hear people say that humans are all free moral agents, we have the ability to choose how we live.
Another thing that really bothers me is that we're commanded to do one thing but we're placed in a situation where we're at a disadvantage.
To illustrate we're commanded in the bible to abstain from fornication. But any honest person will tell you that sexual desire is one of the strongest desires that an individual experiences. To leave those desires unfulfilled is a frustrating ordeal. To make it even worse we're imperfect and if that was'nt enough Satan and his demons are constantly tempting us to do wrong. Some people will say thats what marriage is for to allow us to properly satisfy sexual urges without breaking bibical commandments. But if you think about it marriage should'nt be a vehicle just to have sex. Marriage should be about love and companionship. But unfortunately we know this is'nt always the case so as a result there are likely thousands and thousands of people who are unhappy because they got married for the wrong reasons all in the name of trying to follow bible principles.
So in my conclusion it seems to me that religion is nothing more than a way to frustrate people. If people are really meant to serve God and have a chance at being happy spiritual persons why not give everyone a fair chance. Instead of bringing imperfect people into a corrupt world dominated by demonic influences why not allow everyone to have a clean start without the misery we currently have to deal with.
