  Is holy spirit really involved with appointments?

  i've always been curious about the process they use to appoint someone as a minsterial servant, elder or pioneer.

  do they claim these appointments are made by holy spirit?

  i am aware that the elder body has to first approve it and then send it through bethel or the circuit overseer, but i'm not sure what happens next.

  I've always been curious about the process they use to appoint someone as a minsterial servant, elder or pioneer. Do they claim these appointments are made by holy spirit? I am aware that the elder body has to first approve it and then send it through bethel or the circuit overseer, but I'm not sure what happens next. What does the CO do with these recommendations after they receive them from various congregations?

  Also does anyone know of individuals who were appointed while they were doing something unscriptural? (fornication, getting high, etc.)

  I was'nt exactly perfect when I got appointed as a MS, but when they asked me if their was any reason I should'nt be recommended I said no without hesitation.

  Roybatty - I really wish I could just get out today. My life would be so much better. But unfortunately due to the circumstances I'm forced to wait it out for a little while longer. Whats your story? What made you decide to leave and when did you do it?

  LB & Namewithheld - I wish my wife was a bit more understanding, but I'm certain that she'll never take my side on this issue even if she beleives I'm right. When I first started talking to her about my doubts last October she went from being hostile to broken down emotionally. To make matters worse once her family got wind of it I was basically branded a criminal. Her sister even insinuated that if I left the organization she would convince my wife to leave me. But despite that I'm hoping for the best, maybe things won't be as bad as I envision it to be.

  The big secret - Racial relations.

  i am not speaking of 'secret' in the sense that no one knows this, but in the sense of the phrase 'open secret' where no one wants to talk about something that is known and true, but makes people uncomfortable.

  kind of like the 'crazy aunt' that lived in a room in the finished attic.

  everyone knew she was there, but no one wanted to talk about her being there.. well, the open secret about race relations in the usa, is that all of us working class folks have been used against each other by the elite from the earliest history of this country.

  Interesting observation. I guess this is another example of the golden rule: he who has the gold, makes the rules.

  Another interesting thought is some of the Jewish elite have a lot of power and wealth, but yet they still experience racism to a certain extent.

  Carmel, I hate to sound so negative but I've yet to hear about one religion that has'nt had some type of negative effect on people. Of all the thousands of religions over thousands of years there does'nt appear to be even one that can say it has'nt harmed or caused pain in the life of its members. With the current track record of religion I honestly don't see why anyone should have faith in that type of institution.

  Dawn - One of the reasons I have a doubts about the bible is based on the world we live in today. Basically the bible teaches is that we are children of God so therefore he is our father. We are also taught from the bible that our qualities are a reflection of God's qualities and standards. With that in mind why would a father who truly loved his children allow them to be killed by the millions as a result of one of his other children? Why would a father who is all powerful allow such wickedness to go on for so many years unchecked?

  I could go a little further into some other issues but for starters thats one of the reasons why I don't feel the bible is reliable as what I had previously thought.

  As far as leaving the truth behind, I seriously doubt that I could just stop attending meetings without a lot of hassle. A few months ago I talked to my wife and some of the elders about doubts I had been feeling. So if I stop going to meetings the first thing that will come to their minds is our previous conversations. Also a lot of my family members are elders, so I already know that they'll be lined up to come visit me once they notice I'm not at the hall. Unfortnately there's no easy way out for me. But I gotta do what I gotta do (as the expression goes)

  Bathory - Why would you suggest I stay?
  The more I think about the things that are taught the more I feel like the bible is'nt telling the real story. My confidence in the bible being reliable is almost gone these days.

  For those who are still active, do you plan on leaving soon? Do your friends and families have any idea that you have doubts?

  For those who have already left how did you go about doing it?

  I'm still currently a witness but I plan on leaving towards the end of this year. I know its going to be a really emotional ordeal and I'm dreading the day when I have to inform my wife and my family. Its kind of wierd, just last year my father who I have'nt had contact with for years got reinstated and he's now preaching to me and my younger brother about how the world has nothing to offer. Also last year my younger brother got disfellowshipped, he's currently attending all of the meetings however. I feel kind of strange about the situation, he's trying to get back in and I'm trying to get out. Finally one of my closest cousins recently got reinstated earlier this year. Its been really good to talk to him again (he's been disfellowshipped for 7 or 8 years) but now its look once I leave our reunion will be kind of short lived.

  I'm sure a lot of people here have similar stories, its a shame that this religion seems to do more tearing down than building up.

  How have u dealt with friends, family after leavin

  i made a effort to break free a few months back and it was extremely difficult.

  my wife brokedown crying at the meetings, which triggered the elders and her family (my inlaws) to begin a campaign to win me back.

  whats worse is that most of my friends and my family still don't know about that incident, so i know when i make the decision to move on that once everyone else knows it will be probably unbearable.

  I'm thinking I may have to make a stand sometime during the latter half of this year. Unfortunately I won't be able to drift away, I know for a fact that if I miss more than 2 or 3 meetings I'll have the elders and my family all over me. The only way for me to get away is going to be a declaration of disassociation.
