does the new world translation ever reference the holy spirit as a "him"?

if not, does it refer to it as an "it"?.

i am sure this has been discussed many times so a link to another thread would be great or if someone has the patience to explain again please?

i have read the july 15 2013 wt many times but i simply don't understand the significance of 1919 from the bible.

you're kidding, right? Do you remember the Daniel book? Every paragraph seemed to tie in Daniel's "prophecies" to 1919.

That's also the year we became "smokelike." (See my thread from a few weeks ago about that made up term)

Suggestions for Governing Body 2.0

i realize many people on here are very angry at the watchtower society and/or governing body for various reasons, many of which are likely justified, at least to some extent.

i also can totally understand the cynicism and pessimism i see from certain ones regarding the leaders of the society.. i think one thing that's often forgotten or overlooked, however, is the fact that members of the governing body who've been "in the truth" for 30, 40, 50, 60 years, probably truly believe in this organization.

in my opinion, it's more likely that they believe what they teach instead of being liars who are intentionally deceiving everyone.

i was thinking about some of the old jw urban legends that we grew up with and believed in as jws.

most of the ones i remember revolved around stories about demons, and jws being "attacked" when they would do something wrong.

some of these legends scared the crap outta me when i was little.

Early/mid 80s: "The Warlock in the Barber Shop"

a jw in a barber shop is asked what religion he is by another patron. He responds, "Jehovah's witness."

the creepy old man recoils in horror, points his finger and says, "your god got our children in the flood. Now, OUR god will get YOURS."

This was brought up several times during family studies/get togethers: moms usually shared it with other moms, a precognition to the mass exodus that would come 15-20 years later lol.

What Jehovah's Witnesses need to do to become Mainstream

i was raised a jehovah's witness, so i know all the "ins-and-outs" of their theology and belief system..

in my view, they can become a part of mainstream christianity and lose their cult status by making just a few changes for the better:.

1: stop their severe shunning practices.

They must be different in every way. Only non-conformity works. Being "no part of the world" is one of their most important bragging rights in the claim that THEY...

...are the "one, TRUE" religion!

we're currently preparing for the season finale of the show (to be recorded on sunday, may 24th at 2pm eastern time nyc / 6pm uk time / 4am sydney time.. as we're going to (finally) be covering 607 bce in detail, we're looking for a specialist (or two) that can come on the show and tell everyone about this almighty doctrine.

Oh 607 is a great topic and I look forward to you guys explaining the controversy and massive error of this doctrine in an easily understandable manner.

I do have an unrelated question though: I noticed on JW dot bOrg yesterday that they had the trademark TM next to their logo. Is that just a bluff or did they finally trademark that design? If they did, can they come after your logo or try to shut you down for imitating theirs? (Don't wanna derail your thread topic, so feel free to PM)

the cobe of the local kingdom hall never paid my ex-wife for the work done because they promised they would use "trade" to reimburse close to $5000 worth of work.

as you can imagine nobody here would like him because he believes all the pedophiles can change their ways after the child sex offenders have proved their humility by bowing before the judicial committees.

If revenge is more important to you than the money, hire a licensed private investigator.

Once a PI finds something (and they will if this guy is doing anything shady), you will anonymously send copies of the findings to every elder and at least 3 local media outlets (with a bogus return address--even better, drive across state lines and mail it from far away).

Pour some sweet tea, sit back and watch. I have done something very similar to this and no one suspected me as the whistleblower. The effects were profound and satisfied my need for revenge. There is no sin at all in revenge, my friend, especially when your target is a powerful hypocrite who always escapes justice. Toppling the dynasty of a sociopathic COBE may be well worth the missing $5,000. Hit him where it hurts: his social life, his marriage and his reputation.

(I'm aware this makes me sound like a sociopath. So what. Vengeance is cathartic and as long as you do nothing illegal, there are excellent ways to satisfy that itch. Good luck.)

Rumor about the Imitate Jesus Convention

i saw a rumor a few weeks ago on reddit that the new imitate jesus convention is supposed to present new light and clarified understandings on the disfellowshipping/disassociation practices.. supposedly, if this rumor has any truth to it, there will be a talk given at the convention about how we should not be strict like the pharisees in how we shun people, loosening up some of the jw rules about this practice.. has anyone here heard anything about this or have more info on it?.
