Kensei, thank you for acknowledging that. :) That's just how we roll. We actually have another ex-jw living with us now because he became homeless in mid-fall in a very cold climate. There's just no way we can sit back and let anyone we know fend for themselves like that. If we are able to help, we will. I wish we still lived near Bean because then she'd have somewhere to go and hang out, at the very least. You know?

I'm glad we're out as a family. My brother & his family made it out intact, as well, a few years ago and I knew I'd follow suit. It just took a few years. :)

SOPA & PIPA

Before you read my rant below, it would be good if you read up on what it's about, first.

What Is SOPA? That's a nice, little, nutshell explanation of it all. (http://gizmodo.com/5877000/what-is-sopa)

This country was built on freedom and liberty. Freedom is defined as: The power or right to act, speak, or think as one wants without hindrance or restraint. Liberty is defined as: The state of being free within society from oppressive restrictions imposed by authority on one’s way of life.

While this country was built on those things, there are laws in place to protect us, as well. You do not have the freedom to murder someone, for example, or to take something that does not belong to you. There are also laws against things like child pornography. These laws are for our protection. They are good for us.

PIPA & SOPA do not protect the American Public. What they do is stop freedom. They stop access to information. They stop allowing people to think for themselves and make their own decisions on what they should or should not do.

These bills are nothing but censorship, which, if you haven’t got a dictionary available, is the practice of officially examining books, movies, etc., and suppressing unacceptable parts. This treads dangerously close to brainwashing. Brainwashing is defined as making someone adopt radically different beliefs by using systematic and forcible pressure.

By putting these into effect, this government is trying to think FOR me by suppressing what it deems unacceptable and then pushing me to accept their beliefs by forcible pressure. This is brainwashing through censorship.

You do not have the right to put a ‘kill switch’ on my freedom of information, on my right to free speech. YOU DO NOT HAVE THAT RIGHT.

The minute this country begins censorship by using a ‘kill switch’ for the internet is the minute this country turns it’s back on everything it allegedly stands for: Freedom.

The Declaration of Independence states the following:

We hold these truths to be self-evident, that all men are created equal, that they are endowed by their creator with certain unalienable rights, that among these are Life, Liberty, and The Pursuit of Happiness. That to secure these rights, governments are instituted among men, deriving their just powers from the consent of the governed.

What is WRONG with the government that they have lost sight of their own Declaration of Independence???

i am finding it hard to pray with my children

i have been fading for 6 months but my wife is still in and always asks me to pray at dinner and when i put the little ones to bed but i am finding prayer to be more of a pretense than heartfelt.

i have to pray for the sun or the earth but why thank him for the food, hell thank me for going to work everyday .who put us in the house we live in, god?

its really hard for me to pray for anything anymore as i have an anger toward him and dont want anything to do with a future (mythical)paradise under his control, so why ask for it?.

I haven't read your story, but have you told your wife how you feel?

I don't pray anymore. I don't believe in god, either. My husband (Baltar447) prays, but only to a heavenly father, I think. No specifics. The kids know I'm atheist. The husband is a deist. They require a prayer before bed, so he takes care of that.

5 years, Turning 1000

i didn't want to waste post # 1,000 on arguing with someone, so i just wanted to celebrate my five years on jwn and two years of active posting.

in that time, i've gone from being a believer to fading hard core and taking my wife and kids with me.

i credit this site with being instrumental in our leaving.

Any ex-jw action on Google plus?

i have a google + account and a facebook account.

it seems that there are a lot of ex-jw facebook groups but i am wary of joining them since i have a lot of dubbie friends still.

google+ seems to have a better contact management system where you have different "circles" of friends who can never see each other (i am aware that facebook has a similar thing, but apparently its not foolproof).. so is there any ex-jw happenings on google+ ?.

Kingdom Hall Libraries just for beating kids.....isn't this Child abuse?

yeah no "sunday school" for our kids because it's too "christendom" for us, so our 5 year old's need to sit thru watchtowers on masturbation etc.. when they get bored or wriggle too much.....out to the library!!!!

is it child abuse to force kids to sit thru an adult meeting for 2 hours...and beat them when they can't?.

It's certainly not normal to expect a 5 yr old (or younger!) to sit through that crap. As for hitting the kid, yes, definitely abuse.
