Astounded Newbie Here...*Waves Hello*
by mummatron inall i can say is "wow!
" in the 10 years i've been out i had no idea that forums like this existed.
a tad naive-sounding for someone with a background in it, i know, but it's taken me this long just to feel comfortable enough to type 'jw' into google.

Thank you so much for sharing your story. Laying out the pain and hardship endured is therapeutic in that you can see how much we want to support you and for us in remembering we are not alone in coping with the pain of having lived in a cult. Thank you and welcome ^_^

Shattered ...
by talesin inokay, i got back on the 'net partly so i could be back in touch with you folks, b/c i've been so isolated for the past while ,,, so here goes!.
i just got the news monday, and damn!!
my foot is a mess,,, bursitis .. yech, painful, and the doctors have been ignoring me/telling me i'm making it up for 18 mos.
-
Velour
Oh doll! Hope you get better treatment so you can heal.
Bursitis is a fairly common problem so I'm sure there's several options available for curing this nasty pain. Please do take it easy so as not to aggrivate it. I had a client who had terrible bursitis in her shoulder and I had ice massage sessions with her. I would work on the surrounding muscles to loosen the pressure on the joint and then lay ice on the tendons and joint for 20 mins while applying traction to the joint.

It sounds like you haven't gotten to the point where honesty with yourself and with those around you is more important than tickling the ears and hearts of these people.
At some point this tips in the other direction. It took me 3 years to finally value honesty more than a facade. I don't love Jehovah at all. I don't follow the words of the WTBTS to any degree and I don't care to give the impression that I do.
I have read posts where the people on here advise a person considering leaving to weigh the options. I've even seen plenty of posts advising that a person stay in because of their situation. Of course, we want at some point in time for the person to leave, however, the timing may not be appropriate for their exit.
It's odd that you spell out the results of your leaving as if it is foreign to the rest of us. We all have mothers, fathers, grandpas, grandmas, sisters, brothers, best friends, husbands, and wives that were devestated at finding out that we are no longer JW. We all hurt and are pained at missing family still in. The situation you are in is something we are all familiar with. We understand why you choose to stay in because we've all considered the people who would hurt by us leaving. Again, I stayed for 3 years for the sake of family and friends.
It's not time for you and that's ok.
To leave is a very personal decision that someone should take their time in considering. I think the message I've heard on this forum is: Once you know that it's not the truth you have an increasingly difficult time buying into the lie. Therefore, you should prepare ahead of time for your exit, even if it's quite a ways off.

You don't owe them a damned thing. In reality, who are they but a bunch of men who agree to poke their noses into business that isn't their own with no authority?
They've had this kind of conversation over and over again. They're trained and well practiced at wearing down a doubter and tugging at emotional stings at each and every meeting they have with the person. On top of that, you've had the indoctrination engrained in you for a long time so they'll know what loaded words and scriptures dredge up to make you feel terrible. You have their literature and you have outside information. Bid them ado, you have what you need already.

I Did a Stupid Thing Recently
by 30 years out infacebook has been a valuable tool for finding old friends and catching up on years lost making a living and pursuing our own visions of happiness.
in one of my less inspired moments i decided to look up an old witness friend and roommate from my days in the church.
he had never impressed me as being particularly strong in the faith so i was truly interested to find out what he had been up to for nearly 30 years and if he was still "in".. i located him through his sister's fb page and sent a message to his account stating who i was and that i would be very interested in hearing from him and catching up.

He may have deleted it around the time an announcement was made about "the dangers of FB". And then seeing your message would confirm in his mind how "dangerous" it is.

Oh Nebeska, please remember that you are valued!
On the other side of this screen and these words, we are real people who have all been beaten up by the WTBTS and have had to find a way to get to a safe and stable place in our lives. And we are real people and friends who want to see you get the help you need.
