Formerbrother,
It's 2016. No one needs to go door to door to announce Jesus as Messiah. Lolz!!! Maybe some uncontacted tribes in the Amazon but you aren't allowed to bother them for fear you might sneeze and kill them all.
Also, the Mormons are coming to tell people something completely different from the Bible. Whilst JWs are simply bothering mostly Christians.
Unlike the 70, you can't heal anyone or cast out demons. Actually in Luke 10, he tells them NOT to go from house to house.

Anders Anderson, so true on the mantra. Besides the scripture says "to whom" meaning other than Christ. No clue where JWs got the "where" silliness.
My opinion is , if you wish to be Christian, then simply adhere to Christ's example. You don't need middle men to lead you like a puppet. Unlike the early Christians, you have a compiled volume of the writings to read for yourself.
You can talk to a middle man of your choosing should you have a question.
Christianity isn't supposed to be a burden or slavery to men.

Massive Plunge in Number of New JW Congregations from 1990 to 2014
by steve2 inin a separate thread on the very latest figures for the current world wide annual report of jws, discussion turned to how "we'll know decline has really set in.
one of the posters said: .
the figure that interests me most is the number of congregations.

A lot of new Congos here are Latino. I'm wondering if the numbers are going down in LatAm as people migrate to the US. If the "growth" is simply JWs migrating, then it isn't growth; it's displacement.
I also wonder if the migration has something to do with the downward trend in donations coming from Central America.

Is the religion of Jehovah's Witnesses really an inferior form of Christianity?
by nicolaou inseems to be quite a few posters recently pulling down the beliefs of jw's as not biblical or truly christian.
maybe you're right, maybe you're wrong, i really don't care.. in some important ways though mainstream christians often behave better than jehovah's witnesses; most don't practice shunning or impose lethal medical prohibitions on their members.
many are far more tolerant of the lgbt community and a few even make the awkward attempt to square the fact of evolution with their faith.. please note that i'm saying some, not all.. so i suppose it's fair to say that differing forms of christianity can be better or worse for individuals, families and the wider community.

What's interesting is the GBs claim of being Christ's brothers. The Apostles never wrote such of themselves. What they did write was that they and other believers were all brothers "in" Christ, not brothers of him since that would make them equal to Christ. They were Christ's servants, however, they (Apostles) did make it to friend status. -

Who is your favourite thinker?
by The Rebel inhaving recently read orwells 1984, i was impressed with how he understood that both politicians and people abuse language.
this further confirmed to me how the w.t had deceived me by using words to distort reality.
the book 1984, also contains many other great thoughts of george orwell.. of course there have been many other great thinkers, buddah, darwin, freud, einstein and marx come to mind.

The person who came up with the idea for socks or some item that has improved life around the world. That's great thinking.
Solely opining about everything is useless. Talk is cheap ... do.

How far will they go?
by careful ini've been drawing back lately and looking at the big picture going on in the org, somewhat like slimboyfat has also been doing, but i am wondering about different possibilities.
so the current gb has modernized recently in various ways.
they have done a strong and sudden about-face regarding the electronic world, from viewing the whole thing suspiciously and condemning bros. use tablets from the platform to suddenly embracing them and causing the r&f to do so to such a degree that old ones are spending hundreds of dollars to buy devices that they have no clue how to use; they have heavily embraced this media for their message, very much like the churches have been doing for years, especially with their jw broadcasting and their caleb and sophia animations.

Being conservative in habits doesn't mean being a complete bore.
I seriously doubt all those festivals and celebrations in the Bible were solemn quiet boring occasions.
JWs would just die if a GB member pulled a David.

I hope A JW win Powerball
by ShirleyW inif so, they probably won't come forward for a while, then when they do, they'll probably be dragged into the back room for a talk about how the dubs don't gamble, then the winner says he'll donate some, and of course all will be forgiven, then the dub may finally see the hypocrisy of the cult and denounce them on national tv as they hold up that big giant check for all to see!

To me this seams like more than a coincidence ...
by Greybeard insorry if this has been discussed before.... for a few days now, this question has been going through my mind.
what was the date the governing body took the sole role of the faithful and discreet slave and how close was it to the end of the mayan calendar in december of 2012?
i looked it up on jwfactes.com and sure enough, checkout the date on this article:.

Easy. The Maya built pyramids. The Egyptians built pyramids. Top JW dogs have always been fascinated with pyramids. They're triangle freaks trying to calculate the "rapture".
You would think with there being 4 earth elements, they'd be into squares. Go figure.
With their love of all things triangular, I wouldn't put it past the GB to think Maya calculations were "special". After all the Maya were excellent mathematicians and astronomers. (Can't imagine who still uses a 365 day calendar 500 yrs after contact ...)
Oh, and from the Yucatan southward, they still speak Itzil and Itza. Of course, if the GB or any one else wanted to know what the calendar meant, they could have simply flown to Guatemala, stood on a street, and asked one of the many millions of Maya walking around ... or called on a cell phone.
