Whatever the case of theology, I know the JWs got that crazy invisible return and 'end times' insanity from William Miller (Millerites).

Jehovah's Witnesses and Calvinistic Predestination
by AllTimeJeff inthis is a complex question, and i just want to get a discussion started on the message of jehovah's witnesses and how it relates to their adventist roots, and esp calvinism.. bear with me, i will try to be concise.. we all know that while jehovah's witnesses like to deny adventist roots, that it is clear that according to them, the man jesus selected to get the whole thing started, c t russell, was heavily influenced by adventist ideas, esp the (adventist) idea that has really never left them; the idea that somehow, a time date or period can be inferred from the bible if you read certain scriptures through an adventist lens.
(thus, the 2520 years, 7 gentile times, etc.).
so while this is relatively well known, there is a concept that jehovah's witnesses teach against, yet practice.

Moving On after being a JW
by man in black inafter leaving this religion has there been anything that you have done that is completely separate, or negative from their belief/control system.
yet from a worldy viewpoint you make a difference,,, a positive stamp in some aspect of everyday life ?.
for an example to get things started, one thing that i have done is trained my dog to help people in the hospital.

Yeah, I actually help people now.
It feels good to actually DO something for other people without any conditions ... simlpy seeing a real need and filling it.
Thinking about volunteering with Habitat for Humanity. Imagine finally building something that actually benefits someone.
I'm so wicked and gonna die.

why are women so forgiving in jehovahs witnesses ?
by looloo ini saw a jw girl i used to work with a few weeks back who was married for about 8 years and has 2 children , she was in a right state and told me her husband had just left her for a work collegue and said he no longer loved her !
within a month i see her again and she took him back within a wk of him going to live with this other woman , she told me she blamed herself for not having sex often enough !and they were working on their marriage !
why would you want someone who said they no longer loved you ?

Weird how JWs have "mates" like donkeys and dogs instead of husbands/wives.
I see more JW ladies marrying "outside" now because what's available "inside" isn't worth the bother. "Two becoming one" means there is mutual respect and dignity.
You can't get that when one is drilled to be seen as inferior to the other - that there type of relationship is called master/slave.

FB friend requests - satanic
Happiness - satanic
Technology - satanic
One Generation that is, was, and will be - spiritual
Being a modern day Jonah - spiritual
Bizzarro!

New CO talk: Be loyal to Org. even if you get weird instructions or can prove them wrong doctrinally!
by sir82 intheme was something about "loyalty to jehovah's visible organization".. i have neither the time nor inclination to summarize the whole thing, but a few points stood out:.
even if it causes you personal hardship.
example: joshua & caleb returned from spy trip to promised land with good report, but were "outvoted" by the other 10 spies.

What is your concept of God?
by transhuman68 ingiven that the god of the old testament & the new testament don't seem to match up, and our first impression of god may be based on our parents, and the many progressive christian religions that stress god's love and grace, we probably all have completely different ideas of who god is; if he/she does exist.
i always thought god was a strict, bad-tempered kill-joy..

Its kinda odd they even bother to mention Jesus. Its not like he's supposed to be King of Kings and Lord of Lords ...and all knees bending to him or something.
.... yet by para 8 or so ... he gets the 'ole WT boot into the back of the bus. Typical.

"Don't Ever Come To My House Again"...says the householder!
by mentallyfree31 insince i have woken up from the horrible wt nightmare 5 months ago, i have had a chance to reflect on things that have happened over 25 years.
one of the things i keep thinking about is householders in the field that would become furious upon seeing me and say rudely "get out of here and don't ever come back to my house again!".
it always struck me as such an awful thing to say.

.... it may simply be some people get extremely upset about being bothered (9am) on their days off or while working.

New here...
by hereiam! insorry if this starts off as a kind of a downer.. i am 29, and my husband and i have stopped going to meetings since last october.
we live in mexico and used to attend the english.
long story short, after realizing how many much we've been lied to we stopped going to our meetings, moved out of the territory, switched to spanish, and after a month of attending just vanished.

¡Bienvenidos a JWN! y mucho gusto hereiam.
Sadness - Normal (I would speak to hubby about that because if you don't, its not fair to him. After all he left with you, no?)
Depression - Normal (speak to the doc about that)
Apprehension - Normal
Family - Beat around the bush until you feel ready to tell them.
Make friends when appropriate, eat as healthy as possible, and be sure to get out of the house for some fresh air.
