Alreet,
I agree with jwfacts, you definitely need to divide the citations by chapters (or something like that) to truely show which books they are favouring, otherwise it doesn't really show much and can be very misleading.

a while back i promised to print some numbers on the watchtowers use of bible quotations -- but being a lazy bastard (and having a thesis to write) i have promised and put it on hold a number of times (having a virus infect the computer with the database in did not help either).. anyway, these numbers try to address "selective quoting" of the bible in the watchtower.
the dataset is composed of all watchtowers from the cd printed between 1950 and 2004, but just now i realized there is a (slight) problem in that when citing books with only one chapter, usually only the verse number is shown (eg.
jude 3 rather than jude 1:3) which kind of messed with the script -- oops -- anyway i do not expect this to skew the results very much since the majority of verses in the bible are found in books with more than one chapter.

alreet geezaz!
;p. a sweet old lady from my old hall has baited to a nice email i sent, which is good and bad, as you can see in my posts here http://www.jehovahs-witness.net/watchtower/bible/211809/1/study-conductor-challenge-plus-hello i quite like the people at my old study hall, so i wanted to free a few minds from there.. but on the other hand i didn't want ruin a nice old ladys whole lifes beliefs.
i'm stuck in a conundrum.
Alreet Blacksheep, I know what you mean, but I'm also very convinced shes definitely believes in it, shes 80+ so researching things on the internet is alien to her, shes just been sucked in by what others have told her in my opinion.
Anyway I think I'm going to just play it completely cool, mention stuff I know yet not bring print outs, just refer to that I can get them if shes interested. She 'fell out' with my old study conductor when he started to shun me, (basically because I think he was intimidated by what I knew) and so maybe perhaps, just perhaps she will be open to what I say.
Worst comes to worst its worth a 10 minute call I think

alreet everyone!.
this is somewhat related to my previous topic.. i dropped a friendly email to my old study conductor (how you doing?
hope your well.
Alreet stillthinking. Its both really. Admittly I'd like to show him the errors of the watchtower but on the other hand I would settle for maintaining a friendship, especially as I knew him and his family for a few months.
I'm guessing they're labelling me apostate then. I had been warned from "browsing the internet" lol, that there were many lying apostates around. haha. At least they got half right - there is in fact many liers on the internet, but the JW apostates talk quite a lot of sense! ha. It also probably didn't help that I mentioned I attend a different church now. Oops.
I remember he told me once how shunning people, was "for their own good, to make them see the errors of their ways". But I just think its quite rude really, I haven't killed anyone! Luckily for me I didn't have any family in so I could just dump it right away.
P.S. to Blondie, quite a few of your posts on here helped me wise up to the teachings of the WT quickly, good work and keep it up! (And everyone else who does the same - you never know who is browsing around!!!)
Cheers.

I dropped a friendly email to my old study conductor (how you doing? Hope your well. You still enjoying...? I'm doing this nowadays....) a few days ago and he still hasn't replied. I think he was quite quick replying when I was his study.
I'm slightly suspicious I'm being "study shunned".
So basically, my questions in the title. Thoughts?
Cheers.
alreet everyone!.
i've been watching and learning for a while, nice one on helping me see the real truth!.
long story short -> got interested in christianity, jws first to ask me about it, studied for a few months, realised they were wrong, tried to be a good undercover apostate, got bored, left, joined a local protestant church.. anyway thats not the reason i'm posting.
Alreet!
Perhaps I will stay away for a while then. Its a shame though as I had a dream of freeing a few minds, saving them from their culty bubble!
Cheers,

hi guy's and gal's,.
the jwb crew is pleased to announce that we have been awarded a grant by the cyprus film and arts academy to create a short film based on on the diary of an armageddon survivor - http://www.jehovahswitnessblog.com/2010/01/diary-of-armageddon-survivor.html.
the grant is small (around $16,000), but includes the leasing of 4 very good cameras, lighting and sound equipment.
Alreet!
Thats an awesome story dude, how come you haven't done the 2nd part?!?!? I'm on the edge of my seat!
Ciao.

Hi Everyone,
Thanks for your advice. Perhaps I won't go that far then, lol. I may "bet" instead about restarting study if he could prove it and do it in a joking way so that the apostate alarms don't go off. But there is lots to think about, so I will see.
Also 'alreet' is just saying alright in a funny accent, lol. I forsee it becoming a craze on this forum! ;P
Lastly do people not do those deprogramming kidnappings anymore? haha.

Anyway thats not the reason I'm posting. The reason I'm posting is that I actually quite liked my study conductors and a few others of the local kingdom hall lot and have been debating for a while about how to get them to see the real truth.
Basically I think I thought of a fool proof challenge (which will be a disguised bet).
- I'm thinking about going back to my study conductor and saying I would get baptised if they could show me proof that pre 1914 (or just after I'll need your help on this), the bible students predicted an invisible coming for that year. I have had one of them in the past say I was wrong to suggest otherwise.
Basically I want to dangle the bait just enough to encourage them to look up issues that I know will rock them if they actually learned what really happened. (I dont want break a promise on getting baptised so I will need help on working out when the first time the invisible stuff was mentioned so my challenge can pre-date that).
Also, what do you think of the idea? Do you think I will motivate them enough to actually look things up?!?!?!
Cheers,
E-Myself.
