  Do US JWs Still Knock on Doors?

  this may sound like a silly question, but do jws even door-knock any more?

  the few i know only speak of "manning the cart" at some public location, and because they get defensive if i even ask an innocent question like this i thought i'd ask it on the forum.

  None have knocked on our door in over a year. But they can often be seen standing quietly at the local train station or chatting amongst themselves, mags in hand. When I was still in the bOrg most Saturday mornings were spent doing two hours of "street work" when we would walk the streets approaching random pedestrians (I detested this more than house to house field service) and then Sunday mornings field service. In my 12 years living in New York I have NEVER seen a JW doing street work in the city.

  so, much against my inclination, i went to the meeting this sunday morning.

  just starting to fade, but i needed to do it so that it doesn't look like my hubby turned my head during last week's vacations.

  since i'm not just disappearing cold turkey, i went.

  Yes the irrational fear which many right wing and independant so-called constitutionalists harbor for their government has always something I have found both perplexing and contradictory for a people who claim to be the ultimate patriots. Good point BTW.

  I'm curious about the following:

  1) How long have you been a fader for?

  2) How often do you still get pressure from congregation members and/or family to return as an active witness?

  3) What is the longest period you have ever known anyone to successfully fade? A successful fade in my view, would be someone who has faded for a period of time but no longer receives any pressure to return to active service (completely left alone).

  4) If you have been a fader for more than two years, do you fear you would eventually have to face DA or DF?

  5) As faders, how many of you are being treated as if you were DF'd/DA'd?

  6) Have you faded rather than DA'd due to the possible loss family or is it because you have no network of friends outside the Org?

  7) If you consider yourself a fader how many meetings/assemblies/ field service groups do you still attend on average per month?

  8) As a fader do you feel that the Org is completely powerless over your life?

  I have been paying a lot of attention to the forum members who are fading or contemplating this option vs. DA and I would like to put it into a statistical format if I can.

  All your input, help and answers would be greatly appreciated, thank you folks!

  i know this is a bit off the topic of religion, but i just got back from seeing ant man with my son.

  i'm getting tired of the fact that hollywood (and in this case the action/hero genre) rarely seems to have an original thought.

  has anybody noticed the same theme?.

  It's why my favorite movies are more about dialogue. Once in a while I'll watch a sc-fi movie but generally I can't stand them. I haven't even read a work of fiction since the early 90's. Nowadays it seems they realy more on SFX than a good story.

  Do you find it hard to be around active JW's now?

  i do - actually, it's become close to unbearable.. and herein lies the paradox: i tried to fade in the illusion that i might keep contact with family and friends still "in".

  was it worth it?

  because not only most of them shun me anyways, but i find it almost unbearable to be around them, especially when the cult chit chat kicks in: every cute animal video clip triggers endless comments about glimpses of the future paradise and how "god did it"; those greasy praises to the organization and the governing body; the dumb awe about every jw broadcast and those cheesy music videos; the endless drivel against other religions when one knows perfectly well that we're no better than them; the endless flow of "experiences" of field service or spectacular conversions into "the truth"; the relentless congregation gossip; and so on .... i ask myself: is this why i am fading for ...?
