JWs and Education
by cognac inmy parents were always of the belief that, "the end is right around the corner".. i was a zealous kid, with a learning disorder, so my parents never gave me a hard time or pushed me in regards to my education.. this not only hurt me, but, pissed me off insanely.
fast forward to me having my own kid.
ava is not doing well in school.

You sound like a great mother to me. You've got great courage and determination in the welfare of your daughter, something many children have never and will never experience with their parents. Ava is very fortunate. Keep us informed! -

What is your purpose or what do you wish to accomplish while a member of this board?
by Tenacious inwhen i joined this forum i was seeking more people who felt the same way i did in terms of seeing the jehovah's witness organization for what it truly was; a false prophet.. once i found like-minded members i slowly started to open up and participate more in trying to help others that were also exiting mentally and physically.
today, i offer support to anyone who desires it regardless of what they believe or not believe.. so what is your purpose on this board?.
support?

I came here because I hate the damn cult and it's devout zombies - what they did to my sister, what they do to people and I love reading accounts of good people waking up and all the dirt under the shiny mudguard which gets exposed here.
Now though my reason for being a member has long since outgrown that. This forum is loaded with some great minds, good pleople and quality education far beyond the JW sphere and religion. If someone told me how much I would learn from the people on this forum in the few months I've been a member here I would have laughed. Even though there are personalities and views on this forum which sometimes clash, I find it makes for an interesting (even if sometimes annoying) opportunity to get see inside the mimds of others while at the same time creating a sort of "realistic" feel to the membership - I don't know if you know what I mean by that. Despite disagreements and a few hot-headed postings I think everyone here is genuinely compassionate or empathetic.
It's been fun learning so much and getting to know all the personalities and to me it feels like I am beginning to see them as a sort of online family. I don't even comment on reddit anymore because the conversation there will never be as real as it is here.

Finished Mystery (1917)... The book that Jesus approved...
by Alfred inso a few months ago, a friend sent me an actual copy of finished mystery which was published in 1917 (not a pdf download... the actual book).
i must say, this was the most disturbing book i have ever had the displeasure of reading.
but i only read it because this was the main publication that was being distributed worldwide when jesus supposedly chose the watchtower in 1918 and i basically wanted to see for myself what jesus saw in the wt that would compel him to choose this religious corporation over all other religious denominations.. anyway, if anyone is interested in knowing the actual contents of this book, here are some bullet points i put together from some of the notes i took as i read the book:.

What a whack job! I'm surprised there was no mention of alien abduction and orifice probing. -

You're attempting you justify your thought process with logic. We all know that logic in the bOrg is as unwelcome as Satan himself. -

Simple answer whcih I suspect you already know - ignore anyone giving you advice contrary to her education and what you know is best for her benefit. She is YOUR daughter and YOUR responsibility. When she is older she will hold you accountable in your failings while all those who had the "better" advice will sit back and judge you nonetheless, had you followed their advice. -

Does Anyone Still Believe in God?
by LaurenM indo any of you ex-jw's still believe in god?
even with the new rebranding/softening of this religion, i still don't see how people can believe in him.
the god of the old testimate is an angry murderer who approved rapes and slavery and killed thousands of men, women and children.

StuffwotIfink:
You make some good points and I and I don't disagree with a lot of it.
However my world does not revolve around belief or definitive conclusions, I feel for me personally that would be foolhardy to do so. Let's say my "jury" is always out studying the evidence - while never reaching a verdict, pertinent evidence and facts are being considered while everything proven to be factual is retained. The important part is the pertinent evidence, as there may be evidence that is yet to be proven but if that evidence doesn't have any baring or influence on my investigational processes, I have the sort of mind which immediately trash cans it because I don't see the point in cluttering my mind with irrelevant information.
If something can't be proven or disproven - like aliens and UFOs - since they don't affect the planet in any real way, I would rather not bother wasting my time contemplating the issue. If evidence is made available, obviously I'll adjust my thinking.
Just wanted to say thank you for the video you posted: Is Religion a mental illness? Ya gotta be cazy to think so. I enjoyed the reasoning very much and certainly helps me understand the mentality a lot better. -

What does that even mean? It's not meant to mean anything in the same way as the statement, "Thurdays are the square root of carrots".
