Even Now, You Haunt Me...
by Garrett ineven after leaving the organization, it still lurks in the background like a shadow.. as some of you know, i met a wonderful girl a while ago (which i'm going to need your help with).
she is a catholic and i am open and very respectful of her beliefs.
however, i know there will be a time where i will have to tell her that i once was a witness... and to be honest, i'm quite scared of that.. i don't want things to be ruined between us because of a disgusting cult that i was in.

I've dated women from many religions as well as atheists. When the topic came up it never bothered a single one of them that I was an ex Dub. As VI says, if it's in your past, who gives a shit except other JWs who have something in common? My wife comes from a Catholic family with nuns and priests. What matters is what sort of person you are now. Besides, it's not like you're an ex convict. IMO you're reading way too much into this. -

Are single sisters happier?
by Esmeralda001 inthis question is for the ladies out there, but if you are a man and you'd like to share your thoughts on the following topic you are welcomed to do so.
given the wt society's view on women, did any of you ladies gave up on the idea of getting married "in the truth".
in such case, did you sometimes feel that you were missing out?

When my brother joined the Roodekrans Bethel he ended up marrying a pioneer he barely knew beyond seeing here at a few meetings and written correspondence. Two years later he returned home early (he was no longer at Bethel by this time) from work to find her in bed with another sister she was pioneer partners with. It devastated him and to add insult to injury, she was the one who divorced HIM while he tried to reconcile the relationship.
I had a good laugh at that. Immature I know, but I was 15 and hated his goody JW guts. At 46 I still have a good chuckle ... Yes I'm still immature and hate his zombie guts.

Barry:
So this boy has a vision to be an Abattoir worker. How many other trades do they teach in a mosque
The boy is being taught what will become part of his duties as a man which includes slaughtering animals by the laws of "halal". It has nothing to do with a career in an abattoir. He may have to slaughter livestock for his family someday and certainly in third world countries he most definitely will and regularly - it's a skill all men in some religions and cultures are expected to learn.

Allahu Akbar simply means "Allah is great". Whenever they praise Allah ritualistically or in general the phrase is used. It's the wesrern equivalent of saying "praise the Lord" or "hallelujah" - as VI already explained.
This young boy is simply being taught the correct method for slaughtering a sheep. I've witnessed this before in a few countries even amongst non Muslims.

I can only reply crudely to this with a loud and firm "fuck you" to the bOrg.
All humans under threat must do whatever it takes to increase the odds of survival for them and their loved ones, just as any animal does whatever it takes to protect their young/herd/pride etc.
My wife carries a Spyderco Merlin knife designed for nothing else but causing maximum open wound trauma to the target and she's been taught how to use it. She knows that she must not hesitate to use it when she is threatened without worrying about the legal implications - no point worrying about prosecution if you don't survive. The advice I've always given to women in rape situations is if you have the means to kill him, do it. You dont only owe it to yourself for your survival, you also owe it to the next victim. My wife is not to let someone abduct her to to immediately resist and attempt to kill him as the outcome is rarely survival, FBI statistics clearly prove it.

In my opinion there is no truth. What there is however, is being truthful with yourself. Examine the facts and your emotions, weigh them against each other and make your decisions based on facts using your emotions to support your commitment to those facts, not the other way round. In otherwords, you will constantly be searching for the truth on every subject and in every situation. There is no "one answer" to follow for a fix-all philosophy. -

I've been waiting for more facts before I make a call on this one.
In the meantime let's not jump to conclusions concerning Muslim fundamentalism being the motive although to me personally it does seem to be the case given the facts and circumstances thus far.
In my opinion these two had not recieved any formal guerilla training, not even the basics. If they had, their bomb making skills would have been far more advanced but they were less than amateurs at it.
It seems AK were used which had been purchased legally but not by the perps. Legal AKs are not full auto but are hands down the easiest of modern assualt rifles to convert to full auto, it can be don in minutes with a grinder or an hour with a file, you certainly don't need formal training to know how.
The facts just arent clear enough yet to make a call. Ill wait before I offer up anything more.

I am a Sceptical Rationalist, and an Atheist, yet I have Faith !
by Phizzy ini lead an evidence based life, in that, if i have to make a decision over buying something, or a certain course of action, i will look at the evidence.. if someone tells me something is true, i examine the evidence, using critical thinking skills.. and yet i have faith, not faith as some have, believing that something is true without satisfactory evidence, but i have faith that all humans are of equal value, that the right way to live is doing the most good and the least harm, that love is better than hate, that peace is better than war.. so, i am a sceptical, rational, humanist, atheistic person of faith..

Perry I hope you get well soon.
Now a question for you. Why is it you are so ready to answer anything relating to religion and emotions, yet refuse to engage inscientific debate despite constantly criticizing it? If you keep harping on about religion trumping science in your many comparisons yet only actively engage one side of the argument. My advice would be to stick to religious topics only since you clearly haven't a clue about science or its mechanics.
