  Hero Movies

  i know this is a bit off the topic of religion, but i just got back from seeing ant man with my son.

  i'm getting tired of the fact that hollywood (and in this case the action/hero genre) rarely seems to have an original thought.

  has anybody noticed the same theme?.

  It's why my favorite movies are more about dialogue. Once in a while I'll watch a sc-fi movie but generally I can't stand them. I haven't even read a work of fiction since the early 90's. Nowadays it seems they realy more on SFX than a good story.

  Do you find it hard to be around active JW's now?

  i do - actually, it's become close to unbearable.. and herein lies the paradox: i tried to fade in the illusion that i might keep contact with family and friends still "in".

  was it worth it?

  because not only most of them shun me anyways, but i find it almost unbearable to be around them, especially when the cult chit chat kicks in: every cute animal video clip triggers endless comments about glimpses of the future paradise and how "god did it"; those greasy praises to the organization and the governing body; the dumb awe about every jw broadcast and those cheesy music videos; the endless drivel against other religions when one knows perfectly well that we're no better than them; the endless flow of "experiences" of field service or spectacular conversions into "the truth"; the relentless congregation gossip; and so on .... i ask myself: is this why i am fading for ...?

  Come on you have to be pulling our legs? There is no way an intelligent person could possibly use this as a logical argument. And for the record I have no problem with anyone that wants to practice bigamy or polygamy even though it's against the law in this country.

  i popped into the supermarket for a few things after work today and found myself walking up an aisle alongside a couple who used to be in my tuesday group.

  i see them reasonably often and always say hello much to their obvious annoyance.

  i noticed that ian was sporting a shaggy beard.

  Is it worth making a JW Talk profile?

  mainly just to laugh at the pathetic discussion that they carry on with.

  since one local elder proudly told me that he never saved a nickel until just before his retirement, i've given this subject some thought.. savers are worldly..

  I can attest to that. My mom refused to save on the basis of Armageddon being "just around the corner". What made it worse was the fact we were dirt poor (i got my first pair of new shoes when I was twelve) but my mom was always too happy to donate to the KH. How my dad put up with her nonsense is beyond me.
