i've noticed you are already having trouble finding enough obfuscatory language with which to dazzle the peasants.
i wanted to ameliorate your situation, since you seem to think using grandiloquent words lends weight to your ideas.

for me i think it was the sunday meeting.. just wanting to stay home and sleep in.. but i think the watchtower study was the hardest to sit threw... you had to have it studied before hand.. and highlighted.. then sit there and listen to it all over again..
From the time I was a little kid the worst meeting for me was the Book Study. I hated it with all my might. Boring people, so few, and not near as many distractions as the bigger meetings. It seemed no one ever studied and the same people always answered and there were always the silences on the material no one wanted to comment on or if the study material was to hard, like in the Babylon Book and a couple others. I used to take colored pencils as a kid and teen, and color in the pictures as the study droned on and on.
One period of time the study was interesting for me, when I was 16. I had a crush on one of the young brothers there and he always sat next to me and we whispered and giggled alot through the meetings, dispite our mother's darting looks... Some memories are good...

i approached one of the elders with some of my doubts..... i mildly pointed to the fact that the wtbs had been errent in it's prediction of 1975 as well as some of the other "new light" issues.. his response was one which i have heard many times before: "the society is made up of imperfect men.
interestingly, in 99% of cases most witnesses will accept this explanation and feel guilty for questining a their fellowman ( the humaistic side of the organisation is unconscioulsy impressed onto the mid of the questioner).
at least that is how it has worked on me - until recently.. the next time i am fed this line of reasoning i would like to ask the following question: "ok brother elder, i accept that they are not perfect.
"Has this cop-out answer by the elders been used on you yet?"
so many times, I don't care to think how many. This same excuse has been used on things I have pointed out the the Elders have done to me, my family and many others in the congregations I have been in. One congregations elders in particular had so many crappy elders that they all started avoiding me so I wouldn't bring out more of their faults on how they treated their "flock" with the Societies own publications in my hands for proof of what I said.
I finally just gave up after many years of trying to make the point of how they were damaging so many, young ones and pioneers in particualr. And they wonder why so many left so young? They were blinder than bats when it came to the fact that they were supposed to be sheppards and slaves to the flock and "not lording it over" them.

I understand what you were saying, that is why I said that they got my free labor too. But at the time, while in with the JW thinking, in some 40 plus years, and with people that I did like, I did have fun. Nothing wrong with that. I doubt, that no matter what the circumstances, that we all had some sort of fun while we were in the Borg. I am sorry that that when I used the word fun, that upset you somehow. I found it strange that you had to comment on that.I don't think that saying I had fun doing what I was doing in no way takes away from the negative situation of being used in many ways by the Society. I was sharing a memory, like you.
Must have hit a nerve for you somehow. But I did have fun lots of times doing lots of things while connected with the JWs. That is why I used the word "fun". I see no need to forget those times while talking about the negative things too. AND I have TONS and TONS of those horror stories like everyone else. But I don't choose to forget the good times and just remember the bad times. I took a small offense in you suggesting that I used the wrong word, just wanted to clear the air. I know that you meant nothing bad by it.

Oh yes, they got my free labor! I helped with the building of two. NOT quick builds either, long before those. I helped remodel one a few years ago. Lots of work, but I had a lot of fun too. The people I worked with made it so. I stayed away from the self-made bosses and "supervisors".

Same as Amazing. I had been on H2O almost from it's start. Did not like the new board, and it seemed boring. The regulars were leaving. Farkel, who was also a very long time participant of H2O, came along and told us about this one and I have been here ever since. I check back on H2O every once in a while, but it isn't the same as before.

last year on h20 much was discussed about whether jesus was a historical person.
it was brought out that no mention of jesus is ever made outside the works of christians (presuming that all christian historians are biased) except for the the writings of roman historian, flavius josephus.
and, even the brief mentioin of jesus in josephus works are challenged by some as being spurious addtions to some manuscripts.
On PBS a while short while ago there was a show on "The Missing Years Of Jesus." They questioned what happened to Jesus from the age of 12 until his baptism. It was interesting. There was a trail of documentation that suggested, some pretty strong, that Jesus left and went to India to study with the Monks, priests, and learned ones for those years. I am not sure if this would help your search but thought I should mention it. It was quite an extensive program.

I met Beverly Butdorf right before she moved away. She impressed me as being nice and I was sad that she left. Not to many there that I took a shine to the few meetings that I went. But Wadsworth was no where near the "twilight zone" that Ashland congregation was!
