Gas Prices

we have been informed in dayton that gas prices will go up by midnight by 4 dollars a gallon.

i hope this is another false alarm, but i am filling up in either case.

We went into town to eat tonight. Really wierd. The lines were backed up at the gas stations. Up 20 to 30 cents since late this afternoon. We all here at our house, filled up about 2pm so we got by cheaper. They only have high test left here in our little town and people are lined up getting that. Crazy!! Hardly no one was on the roads and we noticed that all the lights were on in houses and we could see the TV sets on. People are really scared. We also noticed that everyone was talking at the gas stations that we passed. That is something you don't normally see. Everyone seems to be drawn together with this going on. We were talking about the draft possibly being reinstated if we go to war, and then what are all these young families and young people going to do? Major life disruptions! I hope this ends quickly, but I fear it won't.

hi, folks.

i know nytelecom works nearby (across the river?

), but i can tell you all that today has been (and will continue to be for a loooong time) the single most bizarre, surreal event i have witnessed.. i work in an office building at 26 broadway in manhattan, about 10 blocks from the world trade towers.

Michael,
I am so sorry that you had to be there among the terror. I can only imagine what you and all the others involved directly with this, are going through.
My oldest daughter has a boyfriend in NY and he lives on Long Island and was supposed to be by the World Trade Center this morning. She was frantic and finally got a hold of him. He didn't go into town this morning for some freaky reason.
My youngest daughter knows one of the navy pentagon guards. She contacted his mother and she said he is okay but was in the lower building of one of the towers and saw everyone running out. Someone told him to run, so he started running. Part of the blast shoved him into a cement wall and broke his arm. But other than that, he is okay. The same daughter has a boyfriend who's father and grandfather's farm was a field over from where the PA plane crashed and he was really worried because he couldn't get a hold of his people. He finally did and they are okay. You just don't know how many people world wide are affected by this. It is awful.
The same youngest daughter's friend has a brother and a father in the building. The son got out because he was called out to sign for an UPS package and the plane hit as he was signing. Needless to say he didn't go back in. He did go and volunteer at the hospital to help. The father is still missing.
I am in awe of this and how it affects us all. You just can't put it into words how much it hurts your heart.

It will rise slightly and as soon as things seem okay again it will back off. This happens everywhere when there is a tragedy. People who never pray or haven't prayed in ages are now praying today. God becomes much more of a figure in person's minds in these kind of situations. "They" say that no one dies an atheist. Same type of thing. But the JW's think of saving their butts in the big A so this shakes them up, but only temperarily.
It will even make some of us "apostates" kick in our old mind conditioning, I expect, and think for a moment in time, that the Society might be right. Common sense, hopefully, will kick in and they will be okay.
Normal reactions for all.

The fourth plane

Dear Peacepipe,
My one daughter's boyfriend was in a state of panic when he heard this about the plane in PA. His family lives there. He called and found out that the plane came down in the field next to his father's and grandfather's house. Just one field over!! Can you imagine that?
As far as the plane being shot down I can tell you that someone that I know knows a military person "in the know" and he said that it was indeed shot down, but that you more than likely won't be told this on the news because of the implications.

Planes just a diversion... Ambulances had bombs.

i feel pretty sure about this, that the planes were just a diversion set to allow emergency vehicles easy access to the basement parking lot.

eye witnesses placed a large explosion just before the south building came down.

one thing is sure, the buildings did not come down as a result of the planes hitting them or any explosions due to that.

My daughter made a good point. The contruction of these tall buildings are made to implode when something like this happens so that they don't tip over. They both came straight down so this might be the reason why. The neigboring trade tower number seven is in risk of tippin over. The force of the trade tower falling and the debris crashing into it at its base weakened its foundation, thus causing the risk of it coming down too.

does anyone remember a few years ago when the society supposedly made a rule about kingdom ministries, that only publishers putting in service time were supposed to have them?

well, about 3 years ago, i went to a bookstudy, after being inactive for awhile and trying to go back to meetings, anyway, one of the elders saw a kingdom ministry in my bookbag and asked me," where did you get that "?

i told them an elder had given it to me.

They handed you crap. There were tons of unbaptized children in our Hall and they all had there own KM. I think this is a control thing on an individual and congregational level..like it has been said, it is a club. Another control factor to make you feel in or out. Loving and united, huh?

This is hardly new. I was DF years back, in 1977. I was reinstated in 1978. It took me almost 2 friggin' years to get a K.M. One of my pioneer friends would make a copy of hers and give it to me. The literature servant told me that they are only given so many copies and if new ones come in, or as in my case, come back, then they don't get any until the order is adjusted. I guess no "new" order was put in for almost 2 years, huh? I saw plenty of new ones and others get theirs before I got mine. It was noticed by many but nothing was done.
As far as Wachtowers and Awakes from the KH, that is not new either. When I started to become inactive about 8 years ago, I had to "renew" my order a couple times and make a big stink to get them. I have now been out for 6 years as a "drift-away". I still get the mags in the mail though. A sweet younger sister comes and renews my subs every six months. So far, anyways.....

Book of Enoch

someone mentioned the jude quotation of the non-canonical book of enoch recently and i noticed the latest wt (9/15/01) article on enoch addressed this.

i also found a 98 reference to this which suggested that enoch was actually written after jude, a stance which they seem to have abondoned.

in fact, the whole thing seems like a very typical post-franz, 'we don't know, ok. stop asking us stupid questions' kind of response.

Okay, the critical thinker may want to know: Where they get the source of information that states the above. WHO says it is an apocryphal and pseudepigraphic text? WHO says it is falsely ascribed to Enoch? Is PROBABLY produced sometime between the first and second century BCE? Probably? Probably is not a certainty is it? Would new research and new, possible hidden, evidence prove otherwise? WHO were these men that sat around and decided back in the olden days which text to accept and which to throw out? What were their motives for such choices? Political control? Religious control? Control over the poor and weak? Control over women, over youth, over the masses in general? Etc?
Tell me WHERE I can find this information so that I can see if it is reasonable by today’s standards of reason and thinking. Were their choices back then archaic now? Is there any new evidence to make the choices different today?
I read the book of Enoch and I have read several other texts considered "out" by the old antiquated standards. There is some interesting stuff in these texts that most people don't know because they are automatically excluded by most religions. Shoot, there are tons of people out there that don't even know that these texts even exist for them to look at because they are intentionally kept from their eyes. How convenient for the religious leaders of today to say that just certain writings rule when the people do discover they were written. It keeps the status quo doesn't it? We wouldn't want people making informed choices would we? Money and power for these "holders of truth" would go right down the drain!

Just my opinion from my own reading and my own experiences in life. I will now step down from my soapbox.

I'VE BEEN EXECUTED TODAY!!!

a side of relief for me but angry for what happened after the announcement of my disfellowship from the wts.

i urged my mother not to attend because of the emotional trauma and agony you experience.

she's diabetics and any emotional let down can cause her serious problems.

You recieved good advice from Farkel. Many others here would tell you the same things.

I tell you that the best revenge of all is to lead a very happy and productive life from here out. They never expect that. They wnat you to be as miserable as they are on the inside, if they are good at hiding their misery, that is.

Get into all the things that you could never do before because you were a JW, and that deep down you'd have loved to do. (Not the garbage debased stuff, unless of course, that really is your hearts desire. lol)

You're bitter and angry now and it has it's place, but use those emotions for the good, not for the destruction of self. Use those energizers for moving on and moving on better than any JW would.

I hope that your Mom feels much better physically this morning. It is scary when your parents are ill. Remember though, it was her choice to go, and she was aware of the possible repercusions, and she went anyway. I question why she went. Years ago when my brother was DF and my Mom was younger and in good health, she didn't go and neither did I. Usually the person being DF, or their family don't show up for those announcements. So don't feel guilty for that in any way, if you are.

Thanks for missing me...nice to know someone is wondering about me once in a while, 'cuz I wonder about me all the time. Hehe. After the first week of class closing today tho', I feel a bit brain dead. But it seemed that everyone there, including the instructors, were keeping me good company. Just have to get back in the groove. Ya ya!
