You don't know 'the Big Picture' until you love someone more than yourself. A person doesn't have to have kids to do that, but kids do tend to make it happen.

This subject is really important to me?
I was raised a JW and I am STILL trying to ?get over? loosing my teenage years.
No sports, no clubs, no dances, no friends, no boyfriends, no life...
You can?t just ?loose? an entire developmental stage like that and not have it affect the rest of your life.

i recently gave up studying with the witnesses after they told me off for going sailing with my family!
what a crock!
i said it was the easter long weekend and i needed to get away for a few days on the boat.
I told them God is everywhere not just in their halls and that am sure god will enjoy being out on the boat with me. I was then told I was not putting my heart into it.
I decided right there and then that if they were going to stop me from doing what I love, then they can keep their crappy little religion.

OK, here is the update:
The story was about a sexual predator that was released to Oakland. He is living in a church right across from an elementary school.
No mention was made of the JWs at all, but there were several long camera shots of a table full of WTBT literature with a NWT filling the TV screen.
Interesting, since the predator is living in a Catholic-looking Church. This was the lead story of the night.

it's been awhile since i've been on here.
due to death in the family, chicken pox in children and other nasty things.. i posted here awhile ago about things i had found the unsettled me.
i was due to have a visit from two elders and a lot of you gave me lots of help and encouragement.. well, the two elders visited and i have to admit that it was nothing like i expected.. they sat down, and told me straight away that there was nothing i could say or ask that would hurt me.
If the need were to have come and your child or yourself needed blood you probably would have made the decision to not allow the transfusion. I would not judge you for it...that is your decision.
sorry to jump in without reading all the posts...but I had to say:
What if someone knew the blood teaching was wrong, and yet still let their child die?? Maybe just to save face or something. Then would you judge them?
Because that is what the leaders of the WT Org are doing right now.
Just like they did in the months before they came out and changed the ban an organ transplants that so many people DIED for. (They died for a rule, made up by MEN and it was for NOTHING.)
They are just like the people and children who have and will die from the JW ban on blood. All for NOTHING. The men in charge of the Org already know it is wrong and are changing it little by little over time.
I think we all should judge that.

i know that some people have addiction problems with alcohol and i dont mean to offend anyone,,,,,but there are alot of folks who on a weekend here and there, drink and just let loose.
i , for one know that if you have a problem with alcohol this is a totally different subject .
To drink with the express purpose of getting plastered, with the accompaniing next day vomiting, headache, etc, should never be the object of drinking.
I agree with what Love_Truth said. And I think the above situation is just doing violence to yourself. I don't get why people do it. And I know lots of people who do, and tons and tons of teens that do.
something i've noticed on this board is that there seem to be many more liberal-left types than conservative-right types.
what do you think of my following theories?
in the 70s, many converts to jw-dom were influenced by the anti-establishment philosophy and anti-viet nam war.
My parents were very upset with the government and very against the vietnam war, yet they were not into the drugs and wildness of the counter-culture. They were still, however, very anti-establishment. Then they were converted to the JWs around 1969 or 1970. It fit perfectly with their veiw that the world was falling apart and going all wrong, and gave them a 'safe place' to raise me.
I feel I was raised with very 'liberal' ideas, in an non-political kind of way. And now that my mom is out of the JWs, and can talk about politcal views openly, she mostly shares liberal-leaning thoughts.
My poor dad tried to raise me to be an independent, free-thinker AND a JW. He never could understand why I left!
I think this is a good theory, you have here, Patio. I'm sure my parents were not the only ones who came in at that time, thinking as they did.

ok, prince is coming to our town on his latest tour.
the ads all say that this is the last time that he'll play his "old songs".
well, some of those "old songs" (which i do like) are not very witness-like at all, as you may know.
I saw part of a concert of his on cable a few months ago and I thought his new music was good, too. Different, but good. I was quite surprised. I guess I thought all his music would suck now that he is a JW! LOL!
I would still see the show if I could, though I would miss the old stuff. Purple Rain was such a great album...
