i just stumbled onto this website whilst messing about on the internet and i've taken exception to quite a lot of what i've seen here.

I like the way that you assume that because I don't agree with you I must be totally ignorant of what I'm talking about.

You think this, you think that. But what do you KNOW?

True wisdom begins when you know that you know nothing. Do you know who said that?

The accusations you hurl at the WTBS could be hurled at dozens of other religions, but like I said, you don't seem to care about that.

I'm not thinking of things I've read in the newspaper when I talk about muslims, but people who I've known in real life.

It's just ridiculous that I can be seen as uncaring, or be pissing on people, just because I don't harbour resentment towards the WBTS.

What do I KNOW? I'll tell you one thing I know for sure, there's a lot of worse things that can happen to you than being born into a family of Jehovah's Witnesses. You people need to get a proper sense of perspective. You want to help people? Go and dig a well in Africa or something.

If you were saying that organised religion was a bad thing in general, then I would agree. It's too bad when people lose contact with family members (and reality) because of religion, but it happens in other religions as well, it's a problem with them, which is kind of my whole point....and yes, you're right, this is so dull.

I went on this Yardiff person's website and I was somewhat dismayed that you thought him and me were one and the same.

Ok, I wasn't sure if that's what you meant, but once again, this didn't affect me, or my brother or sister, who both went to university. I don't remember any elders ever commenting negatively on it either, in fact the PO's son of the congregation I used to attend actually went to university.

I'm not saying I don't believe everything that's being said here, but it just never happened to me. I can see that I don't really fit in, I get the impression most of you left because of some issues you had with their interpretation of some passage in the Bible, whereas I left because I just don't believe in God.

Personally, I can see a lot more wrong with other religions, such as Islam, than I can see with the JWs, but I don't see you campaigning against that.

Ok, I know you've brought that up on this thread already, I didn't ignore it. Having read all of that, I still haven't changed my mind on anything, although it is written in a rather unfortunate way, "as much as we might like to kill disfellowshipped people, we don't want to go to prison."

You say JWs break up families.

I say, almost all religions, when taken seriously (although if they're not, then what's the point?) break up families if some believe and some don't. It's already been mentioned on this thread that other religions practice some form of shunning. So are you on a crusade against organised religions? If so, I'd happily join you, if it weren't for the fact that I'm lazy and apathetic.

I think it's a great shame that you have lost touch with some of your family now that you're no longer a JW, but personally I don't think that you'll succeed if you try to convince them of your beliefs. I can only see it alienating them further. But that's just my opinion, and I really don't know anything about your situation.

I actually know of an elder who has his disfellowshipped daughter, who is about 20, living at home with him and she has been disfellowshipped for over a year.

Yes, I realise I'm not going to convince everyone of my point of view and I would agree that being raised as a JW definitely had a negative impact on my life, but not because of anyone at the KH. That had absolutely nothing to do with me leaving, I never really had any bad experiences growing up caused directly by anyone at the KH, so can you really blame me for defending them? Perhaps I have just been really lucky, I don't know.

Many have families that threw them out in the street at a young age and won't even speak with them.

Personally, I think that's more to do with their families than with the JWs as an organization. I know of dozens of people who are disfellowshipped and still live with their families, some children others husbands or wives.

I find all these "things they don't teach you in the Kingdom Hall" as plausible as the aliens that the US government are apparently in cahoots with.

It's not like they would socialize with me or anything, but if they saw me in the street, most of them would say hello. I don't think me leaving really changed my relationship with my family at all.

I guess it's not uncommon for extremely religious people to severe ties with family members, a girl I was at college with, who was raised a muslim, can't now speak to any of her family because she rejected Islam. I don't know, maybe I've just been lucky with my family - perhaps they're abnormal JWs.

TR, yes, I could say all of the words that you wrote...
It's not that I don't care about them, I do, I would rather see children raised by loving parents than neglected (no I'm not saying all JWs are good parents either, but being a JW doesn't preclude you from being a good parent). btw, what exactly do you mean by "no education"?

I'm not shunned by the JWs, in fact a couple of weeks ago I bumped into some I knew when they were out on the field service, they stopped and talked to me for a while, not about JW stuff, and they, like Celia, asked me if I would be going to the memorial, and I said no, but they didn't walk off. I think the reason that I'm not shunned by either my family or by JWs in general, is because I'm not trying to convince them of my beliefs. It's a bit like people hiding behind the couch when JWs come a-knocking.

Nobody helped me to "escape from the cult", I believe that the truth exposes lies, and that hopefully one day they'll see they are wrong. Until then, I'll continue to respect their beliefs, just as they respect mine.

Ok, to answer a lot of what's been said about my post, no I'm not a JW, although I did like the joke about counting time for Internet ministry. I doubt you believe me, but I'm not entirely sure what I can do to convince you. Would you like me to use some bad language in my next post? Or perhaps "take the name of the lord of in vain"?
I notice nobody's really commented on the fact that a newcomer to this site would probably think it was in some way connected to the JW organization (until the started reading it, that is). Do you think that's a good thing?
I'm not trying to pretend that there's nothing wrong with the JW organization, really, believe me I know there's plenty wrong. And as for those of you who said that you have family there, well, I have plenty of very close relations, in fact all of my close family are and some of them are very young. Personally, I don't feel the need to try to get them to think like me. Do you think that means I don't care about them? I respect their right to hold a belief, and in my brother's case his right to raise all 3 of his children as JWs. I don't think that JWs brainwash anyone, I wasn't brainwashed, and I never saw it happen to anyone else. Most of the people I grew up with, at the KH, have now left, so I doubt they were either.

To answer the person who asked me why I'm not a JW (somebody was naive enough to actually believe me) I found it too difficult to overlook the enormous amount of scientific evidence which contradicts the Bible, despite what it says in the evolution book.

Is this ambiguity deliberate? I think you should make it clearer you're not affiliated, unless it's some deliberate ploy to snare Jehovah's Witnesses, which brings me onto my next point.

Why are you all so bothered, well, maybe not all of you, about getting JWs to leave? Why should it matter to you in the slightest? It's worse than them going around preaching, seriously, you were Jehovah's Witnesses once, now you're not, you've learnt from your mistake, now get on with your life. I'm not sure whether most of you are now non-religious or have some joined some other group/formed your own little religions.

Finally, given that, from what I can gather, most of you are now former JWs, why do you make such a big deal about people within the Jehovah's Witness organization being fallible, some trifling bit of alleged corruption within the organization itself or them have a poor policy for dealing with thus and so forth? First of all, everybody's fallible, JW or not, so the fact that when you were a Jehovah's Witness a few people were nasty to you doesn't really mean a lot, it certainly doesn't mean that Jehovah's Witnesses are all hypocrites, just the people who were nasty to you. Secondly, given that the actions of the "faithful and discreet slave” are not really being directed by God, it means nothing if they deal with a few things badly, other than that they are human and make mistakes.

What I really want to know is why? Why are you so obsessed by them? Why couldn't you just either leave the religion or stay? Why must you now spend your lives "exposing the hypocrisy of the WBTS"?
