I've been thinking about this. I'm in college now, majoring in psych, and I really want to be a sort of clinical psychologist who focuses on suicide counseling and cult counseling...now, if I could only get some Prozac for myself...

what was the worst meeting you ever attended ?
by man in black inhere's mine :.
back in the early 90's we went to the sunday talk and wt study.. lo and behold, a friend from the 70's who was df'ed ( he had just been reinstated) was there along with his parents.
i had no idea that they would have been there.. one of my kids was getting sick, so my wife and i were up-down the entire meeting walking him around.

a couple questions for everyone here
by deservingone26 inim just curious about a couple things:.
1. most of you seem to be pretty satisfied that you left the the witness world but now that your gone what drives you now?
what makes you excited about life?

1. I am driven by a better self-esteem, a more humanistic perspective, and the joy that comes from knowing I am no longer in a cult.
2. Good question. For me, it is partly to heal, partly for intellectual debate, partly to meet people in a similar situation to myself, and partly because I think I might be able to help others in the future.
3. I am an atheist. I think a lot of us are, but a good number of us are Christians of another flavor. And some of us still found other belief systems. Lots of diverse thinkers on this forum.
4. Yeah, I think I need counseling too. I have major anxiety issues because of my involvement with the WT.

New Urban Legends?
by Pika_Chu inhas anyone heard this one before?
it's similar to the one where the angels are supposedly protecting this woman out in fs.
a brother/sister knock on someone's door, the guy answers it, his familiy are huddled into a corner, crying.

Okay, just remembered this one too: two women live together, they are in a relationship together, witnesses visit them and tell them to get rid of this thing they bought at a garage sale. They become lovers of men once more. Think that one was mentioned in "I'm Perfect, You're Doomed."

Ideal Paradise
by WontLeave inam i the only one who's in awe at the stock invested in the average jw's correlation to the society's publications and the probability of what the new world will be?
from my conversations with people in the various congregations i've been in, i've pieced together their concept of the new system:.
women and clean-shaved men in casual-business attire constantly gardening adjacent to tiger cubs.

They also admonish us not to "speculate" too much on what the Paradise is going to be like. Hmmm...wonder why?

Some believe we wouldn't be eating meat. There were also questions as to whether we would be allowed to wear clothes, if we got any private bathroom time, if we could build our own houses, and this impressive piece of MindF***: we'd still be going to meetings and reading Watchtowers forever and ever!

A lightning fast POLL: Two questions about CONVERSION
by Terry in1. were you yourself converted from a religion other than jw to becoming a jw by door to door work?.
2.did you succeed in converting somebody in your own door to door work causing them to change religions to the point of baptism?.
quick answers, please.. .

1. Technically no. I was a born-in, although we never did anything except go to the Memorial until my bro died. Then we got serious and got back to the meetings.
2. Hopefully not. And I don't think I did. I probably "planted some seeds" but I don't think I ever converted anyone.

I didn't even think parakeets were carnivorous. Oh, I guess they'll just EVOLVE some teeth...the WTS can't have that...
