I was more of a skeptic. A couple of things I always thought were kind of wrong were staying away from worldly friends and not having a beard. Other than that, I really did believe. Those two things just never really sat right with me.

Did You Tend To Question The Organization Or Did You Just WANT To Believe?
by minimus ini know some who always questioned the elders, the society, and others because they were typically skeptical.. there are those who just seemed to want to believe whatever they were told.. i was more a skeptic, during my last decade.. .

I have noticed that the WTS is very careful not to give much detail about what an apostate idea might be. That is no accident. The WTS does not want their members looking into the publications to verify these ideas....might find out they are right.
I remember Paul saying that some were teaching that the resurrection had already occurred and that the Christians were already reigning as kings. Now that is specific.
Yep. Aknowledge and dismiss. They do that with all information from the "world." Skeptics point to bible innacuracies...this is unfounded. Evolutionists believe X, but the Truth found in God's word the Bible says Y. Apostates raise objections to what is printed in the mags...they are evil and full of crap...

Love "Man in the Box"
Oh, god, I LOVE that song too!
I think metal opens up the mind in a way. When you're in a religion like the JWs, you don't want people knowing your listening to stuff like Rob Zombie and Black Sabbath. Too much "demonism." This, in turn, leads to rationalizations. Rationalizing "sins" requires some thinking and leads to morals and ethics guided by actual common sense versus word of mouth. The Devil's music? Yeah, I guess it is the devil's music if it makes you question religions. Actually...this played a role in me waking up because I couldn't believe all those awesome songs played by awesome people who are also decent in real life (sometimes, anyway) could actually be of Satan. I mean, what's the fundies' reasoning? They talk about Satan? REALLY? They sure as hell (joke intended) like to talk about Satan all the time. Satan's all over the pages of the Bible. Why is it wrong to mention him in songs again? Yeah, so...it personally led me to question things more.

The latest July 15 WT - un-real.
by just n from bethel ini've been trying for some time to find the motiviation i needed to completely leave the cult behind.
i'm mean, do it emotionally as well as mentally (whole-souled, right?
), despite still having a lot of family and friends that are cult members.

articles like these are the "raison d'etre" of the kool-aid editions of the WT. Maybe we would do a great service by distributing THEM in public places, so anyone potentially interested in JWs but unitiated could get a glimpse of their real nature.
@room 215, I was thinking the same thing. It's actually blatant, none of that seemingly benign fluff. People who aren't under control who read this will see just how incredibly cultish it all is. They're practically telling the reader "we're a cult! obey us or die! Shun your family!"

So remember the warning at 1 Corinthians 10:12: “Let him that thinks he is standing beware that he does not fall.”
REALLY?! This scripture would imply that someone who thinks he has some firm standing idea should look around to make sure he really IS standing on solid ground. You know, by testing things and doing research.
WT 4/15 2009 Satan was the first creature to turn apostate. Modern-day apostates display characteristics similar to those of the Devil. Their mind may be poisoned by a critical attitude toward individuals in the congregations, Christian elders, or the Governing Body. Some apostates oppose the use of the divine name, Jehovah. They are not interested in learning about Jehovah or in serving him. Like their father, Satan, apostates target people of integrity. (John 8:44) No wonder servants of Jehovah avoid all contact with them!—2 John 10, 11.
WT 8/15 2008 14 Like the faithful Levites back in the tenth century B.C.E., God’s loyal ones today are not deceived by apostate ideas. Anointed ones and their Christian associates are quick to avoid and reject apostate ideas. (ReadRomans16:17.) While we gladly submit to governmental authorities in secular matters and remain neutral in worldly conflicts, our loyalty goes to God’s Kingdom. (John 18:36; Rom. 13:1-8) We reject the false claims of those who profess to be serving God and at the same time dishonor him by their conduct.—Titus 1:16.
WT 9/1 2004 Therefore, when confronted with those who voice apostate ideas, we want to do what God’s Word states: “Keep your eye on those who cause divisions and occasions for stumbling contrary to the teaching that you have learned, and avoidthem.” (Romans 16:17; Titus 3:10) Likewise, Christian youths facing the dangers of harmful associates want to apply Paul’s counsel given to young Timothy: “Flee from the desires incidental to youth.” And when confronted with false accusations in the media, we will remember Paul’s further advice to Timothy: “They [those who listen to the voice of strangers] will be turned aside to false stories. You, though, keepyoursenses in all things.” (2 Timothy 2:22; 4:3-5) No matter how smooth the voice of strangers may seem, we flee from all that would subvert our faith.—Psalm 26:5; Proverbs 7:5, 21; Revelation 18:2, 4.
WT 9/1 2000 A waiting attitude also helps us to avoid presumptuousness. Some who have become apostate were unwilling to wait. They may have felt that there was a need for adjustments, either in Bible understanding or in organizational matters. Yet, they failed to acknowledge that Jehovah’s spirit moves the faithful and discreet slave to make adjustments in His due time, not when we may feel that this is needed. And any adjustments must be in harmony with Jehovah’s will, not our personal ideas. Apostates allow a presumptuous attitude to warp their thinking and stumble them. But if they had adopted the mental attitude of Christ, they could have retained their joy and remained among Jehovah’s people.
WT 1/15 1997 ) Regrettably, the tongues of false teachers turned some early Christians away from God. So let us never allow ourselves to be overcome by venomous apostate expressions, whether spoken or written.—1 Timothy 1:18-20; 2 Peter 2:1-3.
And this is really weird. For people who say not to listen to Apostates, they sure as hell know a lot about apostate ideas and how apostates think. I thought only Jehovah could read minds. It really seems like they must read apostate material themselves; else they wouldn't know who to "warn" against. Hypocrites...

The Org is totally NOT preparing us for Armageddon. But shouldn't we be grateful for it?!?!
by Pika_Chu inso, yeah, now we know that family worship night is essential to our survival into the new system.
'cause satan apparently didn't give a s**t about attacking jw families until, oh, a couple years ago.
now he suddenly feels like it.

Homeschooling and JW children
by Pams girl inhow many jw kids are homeschooled where you are?
its not very common here in the borough where i live.
i just found out on the grapevine that a girl i know is taking her kids out of our very good primary school because she feels the other children are having such a bad influence on her kids.

It's really common where I live. This one sister pulled her kids out of middle school cause two girls were supposedly kissing. While akward and inappropriate, I really thought that was extreme. I mean, to JWs, homosexuality and kids dating are the two worst sins. Worse than a lot of other things. Screwed-up priorities...and an extreme view to perfectionism and all that.

So, yeah, now we know that family worship night is essential to our survival into the new system. 'Cause Satan apparently didn't give a s**t about attacking JW families until, oh, a couple years ago. Now he suddenly feels like it. And the Borg has given us this life-saving information at the proper time! Yay!!!
So, anyway, if the big A came in 2006, we'd all be dead. 'Cause, you know, we need to be doing this to get through it. And the GB didn't tell us this yet. So apparently a few years ago, Jah just remembered something he had forgotten for the last 6,000 years and just whispered it into someone's ears. (You know, even by the Genesis account of creation, this is a pretty long time for God to just not mention something. I mean, COME ON! That's like, 6 days, God!) For one thing, if God wanted so bad to just let people get to be his friends just so he wouldn't have to kill them (which is paradoxical in itself), why does he just wait around until the late 1800s to tell C. T. Russel some things, and every 10-30 years tell the GB/President some more stuff? Even without flip-flops, this is ridiculous. It's like the WT God has multiple personalities or something (Trinity jokes, anyone?)! It's also pretty messed up how they're SUPPOSEDLY our only real guiding light in this world, yet if Armageddon happened to come before they warned us of yet another thing we needed to keep in mind, who would REALLY be blood guilty? Would it still be our fault for not being patient or something lame like that?
Here's a funny thought: How old is the movie Avatar? If the Big A came on, say, December 9th of 2009, who would be left alive after God killed everyone for watching a "demonic" movie?
Here's another one: How long has it been since the latest generation change? What if Armageddon happened before, during, or just after they printed and distributed that mag? Would all the people who didn't read that one be destroyed? 'Cause belief is totally the basis of salvation. That's why Mormon's are gonna die in Armageddon. They only got it 90% right on the doctrines. That's why EVERYONE in Christendom is gonna die; they only have it right when it comes to things which agree with Watchtower magazines. Silly Catholics, silly Protestants, you're all just reading your Bibles wrong! Here, let me help, it goes THIS way...(flips Bible right-side up and points to a hilighted scripture with one hand and the brochure "The End of False Religion is Near!" in the other).
Still another: How long has it been since they changed the blood doctrine? You know what, I'm not even SURE if fractions are okay anymore (Or was it fractions from fractions ONLY? See what I mean?)! If Armageddon came just days before the latest New Light on that, well, I guess the vultures would have been EXTRA happy to pick us apart because we weren't straight on that. How dare we not keep up with the constant refinements! (wait, I thought we WEREN'T supposed to try to keep up with anything but study anyway? Isn't this like following a trend or something? Uh oh, I better go ask an elder. You know what, screw it (read: copulate with it with the sole purpose of reproduction and only do it after one is married. Oh yeah, and no masturbating it. Jehovah will burn off your dong with fire at Armageddon), I'll just type it into the search box on the Watchtower CD! Moral conundrum solved! Thanks, Watchtower Society! Hey, why am I bleeding so much? My no blood card IS in my wallet, isn't it? ISN'T it? Aaghhh!
Aren't we thankful for the Faithful and Discreet Slave for doing SO MUCH for us, guiding us through this dark, ignorant world, admonishing us all against watching movies that could put our relationship with Jehovah on the line AFTER they come out in theaters? Reminding us blood is both sacreed and evil in some sort of bizarre philosophical and medically ignorant way, just minutes before a potential trumpet sound from heaven? Warning us against Satan's "crafy acts" of making nifty doo-dads we find in garage sales (I mean, they're called CRAFTY acts for a reason, right?), letting us know JUST AT THE RIGHT TIME what the hell Jehovah must have meant when he had someone write about "This generation?" Isn't it just WONDERFUL how God's holy spirit is at work in his Earthly Organization in this time of the end? Holy crap, that one might have been an actual quote...

Descended from animal? Explain language.
by StopTheTears inif, as evolutionists claim, all of mankind evolved from the same primitive life-source, then how did we end up with 7,000 different languages?
did one gorilla get angry at another gorilla and decide to start a new language?
i'm intrigued to know.. .

Pika_Chu
What are you talking about? Gorillas arguing? We didn't evolve from gorillas. We didn't even evolve from chimpanzees. We share a common ancestor with chimpanzees and gorillas are a whole other primate. If you want to have a debate, you need to get your facts straight. And, according to your Biblical language model, Hebrew would be the first written language. Not so. Close, but not so.
