You know, I seriously thought about refuting that whole dang website on my blog, but I'm beginning to think this guy already does a good job at incriminating himself. It would take a lot of my time dissecting each and every little point...
I don't even think this was written for real atheists. There's no way. I think it was written for fence-sitting fundies.

Hello. I read your story and I can relate to the anxiety and the attachment to your mother. I face similar issues trying to please my difficult JW mother (I'm a momma's boy). it seems to me that most, if not all christians are really hung up on sin and redemption from sin and how naturally evil we all are.. my question, and observation is this : i had nothing to do with whatever you say adam and eve did wrong, i have always, throughout my life, treated whoever i came into contact with compassion, respect and love.. i have lived by the golden rule.. not many people, hand on heart, can say that, i can.. so, is your god going to judge me for the "sin" of some mythical forebears of mine ?
is he going to say that , because i did not believe in him, i willl be judged adversely, even though i lived by the precepts he is supposed to support ?.
all i can say is, if your god is like that, i refuse to worship or acknowledge him.. and i certainly do not want to get to know him.
I agree, Wobble. A God who does not make his existence obvious and then judges worldlings who are not convinced of that existence can hardly be considered benevolent. And, even as an atheist, I live by the Golden Rule as well, I just think it's common sense and the result of a highly developed brain which brings us the ability to feel empathy. Treat others how you want to be treated, not because someone bigger than you says so and promises you a reward for it, but do it because you know it's the loving thing to do.
hello wounderfull people, i would like to thank everyone for they help before, but i still need moral support, i have made my mind up and i want to thanks a member of the aussie team olympic team for responding to my email.
it really means a lot for me when i don't have any real friends when a olympic athlete responds to your email and cares.
she gave me good advice and told me it's possible even thought my situation is hard, that really gave me hope and it was that push that i need to start thinking seriously.
Currently there is lot's of tension building up in the house, and it's becoming mentally hard for me to endure. I just hate my life and somedays i would rather be dead then alive. My mom's lecturing's everyday about JW stuff, study more and you talk to the wrong people in the Hall, don't talk to sisters to much, talk more to the elders, be more happy in service, raise your hand higher, give more comments, be more friendly, your tie is not straight, your going in service not to a funeral so be happy, he's not baptized so don't be a close friend to him, don't read too much worldly magazines, stop talking about snowboarding in service, be more spiritual, don't call worldly family too much, and the list goes one and one, then when i'm home alone she calls every 10 mins to make sure what i'm doing, then she nags to i should be studying the bible!
Snowboarder, I TOTALLY understand! We must have been seperated at birth or something...I know exactly how this is, and I deal with stuff like this a lot. I blow off much of the steam by hanging out on this forum and talking to worldly and apostate friends (I sneak around and walk on eggshells). That sort of life style is very stressful...
i am new to this site, just finding my way around.. i've been studying with jw's for about 15 months.
i'm an unbaptised publisher, and until recently never missed a meeting, have been out "on the service" quite a lot.
i've been having difficulties with one of the jw's studying with me and something happened which was just unacceptable.

firstly, i'm a study who initially believed every word of the jw's.
figured "no other religion takes the time and effort to help people understand the bible by publishing the watchtower and the other literature" not realizing that all it does is pick and choose scriptures to suit whatever sentence they'd just written, which can be done using any book, not just the bible.
i felt foolish, after that.. .

in a non-study article in the jw only watchtower is an article titled " should youths get baptized ?
" the wt society is losing young people in very large numbers - so how else to try stemming the exodus than putting pressure on jw parents to indoctrinate and instill mind control into their children ?
in one section here in this article it almost sounds like a version of " 20 questions " that the wt society asks parents to determine if their children are making " spiritual progress " as they phrase it.
@Elorm: Hello, and welcome to this forum. I can see you weren't too pleased with some of our comments on here. It really helps to be "in the know" about JWs, because everyone on this forum considers the religion to be a harmful cult. Our anger is not because we don't want JW kids to dedicate our lives to God, we just don't want them dedicating their lives to this religious organization. Actually, they ask us questions at baptism and one of them asks us if we are being baptized in the name of Jehovah (the father), his son (Jesus), and the SPIRIT-DIRECTED ORGANIZATION. So, it's quite a contract there.
Some background knowledge you may not be aware of: the Jehovah's Witnesses are a "we're the only true way" kind of religion, they are fundamentalists, they isolate members from the outside world (it's supposed to be destroyed at armageddon, and only JWs will survive God's wrath), they believe all other religions (and the world's governments) are unwittingly under Satan's control, so certain things happen when you become baptized as a JW. If you choose to leave the religion (especially if you leave to become a different kind of Christian; for some reason, the other Christian groups in the world are demonized more often than any other major religious classification), you are subject to a shunning practice, wherein the defector is considered a bad person and, more often than not, are completely cut off from having all contact with friends and family who are still active JW. In fact, that's why so many of us are members of this forum. Many of us got baptized, left, and were shunned. This forum is the place we go to for healing after that.
And, for your other questions, yes, some of us are still Christians, and others are Atheists (like yours truly), some of us are between the two, some of us belong to completely different belief systems unlike the previously mentioned.
