I'm Attending the Memorial
by RichieRich inmy lovely girlfriend and i sat down over a homecooked meal, and discussed the pros and cons of attending the memorial.. i decided, with her support, that we would attend.. i spent years of my life pretending to be a witness to please my mother.
when i left the witnesses, my mother said some hurtful things.. and those things really hurt me... for a while.
but i established myself as my own person, developed my own relationships, and have gotten a good start on my own life.. i don't know that i want to hurt my mother back, but i do want to make it abundantly clear to her, my grandmother, and all the members of my former congregation, that richierich is alive and kicking.. and i think that walking into the kingdom hall, dressed respectfully in a suit, yet with full piercing jewelry intact, and with erika wearing something classy that steals the brother's eyes, and draws glares from the humble sisters, will be just the thing to send that message to my mother.. i don't plan on partaking or making a disturbance.

Merry:
Allah will not be unjust to anyone.
There's a marked difference between justice and mercy, as illustrated by the following anecdote:.
A capured deserter was due to be shot by Napoleon Boneparte. His mother begged for pardon, to which Boneparte is alleged to have said "what has he done to deserve mercy?", to which she replied "if he had deserved it then it would not be mercy!".
Bernadette:
If I were to turn to Islam then I like to think it would be the mystical Sufi, although the Whirling Dervishes are perhaps a little OTT for my tastes -

And would your book reading on the subject qualify you to make such a clinical assessment?

UnDFed:
Before I begin let me assure you that the context of my comments is the fact that BFD, who started this thread, is a "lamb" in faith. Re-read his first post to see why I am so defensive regarding this topic in this particular thread. You know from our previous discussions that I am more than able to support the Trinity doctrine and value its importance. However:To know Christ is to know "the truth", who sets you free. The Bible is a book that needs interpreting. It is not "truth" perse. It has words of truth contained within it, but most importantly it leads us to the one who is described as "the truth". That is a significant difference from applying that title to a book or an organisation. To do such, IMHO, is blasphemy.
I guess we can just throw sound exegesis out the window and put our trust in a false Jesus and a false god and everything is perfectly fine as long as we have "love"? Who needs to "Defend the Faith" like Paul said? As long as we have "Love" then Truth doesn't matter?? Where does the Bible teach anything like that?
Is that an attempt to throw the toys out of the cot?
I am NOT saying that you have to have a deep, "in-depth" understanding of the Deity of Christ to be saved. I have never said that. But, any "Jesus" that is not God by Nature is a FALSE JESUS who did NOT die for you and cannot save you.
You're mixing your metaphors, and corrupting your theology. On the one hand you are discussing an "understanding" and on the other the reality of the nature of God. Please keep your thoughts distinct and in order, please. Gawd almighty, not a wonder so much heresy has come from the USA...
Regardless of who you understand Christ to be, if it is Christ that actually saves you then you are saved indeed, correct? "I believe, help thou my unbelief"...
I'll condemn you...
You haven't a clue what John had in mind, and he's been dead for 1900 years and wasn't the most profuse of writers.
I love your use of the elipse to make your point. That one was worthy of the WTS...
You sure made some strong statements for a person who is so strongly promoting "love."
Was Jesus any less loving for calling the Pharisees "offspring of vipers"? When it comes to the stumbling of "little ones" my stongest ire is drawn. I am passionate about Christ, passionate about the gospel, and passionate about exJWs who don't need more barriers erecting in front of them. This is one reason that I castigate one-hit wonder, Born-again, ne'er-been-JW, bible-thumpers who visit this site and start spouting off. Its one of the few things in life that I WILL NOT TOLERATE.
He never used that exact phrase, but it does not take a rocket scientist to understand exactly how John used the phrase "Son of God" in all of his writings, just take a look below:
You're preaching to the choir. I'm firstly a Christian and secondly a Trinitarian. My point still stands that mixing in subordinate standards of creeds and catechisms has far less value that the Word Himself.
You say that when you were converted you only believed that Jesus was "far more than" the JW's teach. But, let me ask you something...
Believe me when I say that it is possible to be regenerate and have an intuitive knowledge of the Deity of Christ, without the conscious concept having resolved in the mind. Fortunately the Holy Spirit doesn't leave us in this predicament, but that's another [later] story.
You CANNOT have the love of God within you UNTIL you have believed the truth of the Scriptures about Jesus and come to Jesus.
Which scriptures? What is the minimum knowledge required? You acknowledge that the minimum isn't a knowledge of the Trinity, and yet are you so sure that you aren't setting a bar that is still too high? What about those who cannot read? "He die, me no die"...
What was Peter's answer toward the end of John 6?

"Watchtower" is a term from witchcraft NOT Scripture
by FuzzyPaul inhas anyone else ever noticed that there is no watchtower in scripture as part of any particular teaching but there is prominent use of watchtower in dungeons and dragons type games and forms of witchcraft including spells involving watchtower?
see: http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/watchtower_%28magic%29.
and msn search for watchtower alone & with magic spell or occult or witchcraft.. ct russell was a 33rd degree freemason ( illuminati) nutcase who read books by guys that measured the lengths of the halls in pyramids to foretell the future by.

Don't believe everything you read on the Internet.
2Chron.20:24; Isa.21:8 - King James Version.
Further, the symbols in question used by the Watchtower are used by a number of occult groups, not just the Masons. The evidence is against Russell having been a Mason, though he shows obvious influence from some other group (or maybe through an aquaintence).

Okay, that is a low blow
You've hardly been the most intelligent of conversation on this thread, yourself...
When you decide to loose yourself from the confines of religious bigotry, maybe you'll find yourself able to express a tolerant opinion that addresses the real issues of an individuals choice of lifestyle.
I don't agree with Merry's conclusions, but I'll fight for the right for her to express them, insofar as if it "harm none".

Didier:
would you personally believe this ????
No, but at some point I realised that it was absolutely no less believeable than the average Jewish or Christian set of beliefs.
Very well put
