not to say that i disagree with whats in the bible but i have wondered about the fairness of certain things.. 1. for example i've always even as a child thought that it was odd that so many people would die during armageddon.
now as an adult and i understand people better than i did years ago i really do feel puzzled about the fact that according to the scriptures the majority of mankind will perish.

most of you are are aware that i sent out a letter to friends and family exposing the organizations association with the un.. since that time there have been several very important developments including wtbs dissacociating themselves from the un.. because of this i felt i had to get this new information out to everyone i had writen the origional letter to.. i sent this update to out of town friends and family.i encluded a copy of the un letter announcing wt's dissacociation and the two guardian articles.. my plan met with a problem.i knew my local po had warned everyone not to read anything else from me.i knew he would do this so i even sent him a letter along with the rest to show that i stand behind what i wrote and i'm not afraid of him.. today i did the only thing i could think of,i wrote a new letter to the po.. here it is,.
dear po 10-16-01. circumstances have changed since my last letter to you and others.. i am honor bound to update you and them of these changes.
im sure that youve told everyone not to open anything from me so thats why i am writing to you only.. the information i sent earlier was accurate and true at the time but as i stated earlier things have changed.. enclosed please find an official copy of the october 11th 2001 letter announcing the termination of the wtbs association with the united nations.

My conjecture was that Daniel was part of the LXX before the Roman dynasty, and therefore supports the possibility of some accurate prediction being contained therein (compelling enough for me - whether you class me as reasonable or not).
In that context it has "stood" as an established work.
Where is the "absolute balderdash" in that?
If you have evidence to suggest that it was seriously contested during even the first millenium of its existance, then I'll happily retract. What little evidence exists seems to suggest that it was held as being far older still.
You've raise a straw man of "culture" and painted my comment as unreasonable on that basis. THAT'S not reasonable.

I'm just going to thrown 2p in here (I hope that my memory serves me, since I have no references with me).
Daniel was included in the canon that was translated into the Greek Septuagint.
Work started on that during the 4th Cent. BC.
In addition, tradition states that Alexander the Great was shown scriptures that highlighted his arrival at the gates of Jerusalem.
I will happily stand corrected if it can be PROVED that the OT wasn't fixed by this time.
Therefore a reading of the Roman parts of Daniel make compelling reading (at least to me).

Whilst it is a very useful tool, I would suggest that occasionally it might need to be balanced with the statement:
Truth is stranger than fiction.
Following your line of reasoning that Jesus is fictitious, why should we stop there?
Maybe Matthew, Mark, Luke, John, Paul and Peter were all fictitious names of some ghost writer(s).
Even Mohandas Ghandi had some appreciation of someone that he felt espoused fine precepts.

There appear to be many "Holy" books that espouse a way to salvation.
They usual preach tolerance, too.
I find it hard to believe that someone living in Siberia, or North America, at the time of Christ, would be damned for not reading the Torah.
Paul seems to indicate something similar in Romans 2:14-16:
For when nations not having Law do by nature the things of the Law, they not having Law are a law to themselves,
who show the work of the Law written in their hearts, their conscience witnessing with them, and the thoughts between one another accusing or even excusing,
in a day when God judges the hidden things of men, according to my gospel, through Jesus Christ.
