My 5-minute part
by Max Divergent ini gave a 5 minute part the other day.
i'd readied my trusty navy blue double-breaster and put on the same tie i wore when i gave the bible reading at the circuit assembly once (actually i bought the suit for the same occasion), but this time i had a part at the district convention venue!.
i listened to the two earlier speakers, and just knew they'd get w. my name was announced and i stepped up to the platform, slipped behind the podium as cool as can be, settled my notes, noticed where the mike was, lent my hands on the podium just so, gave a couple of people eye contact, gave an introduction to arouse interest, watched my pausing and my hissing ssss and popping pppp and general proper use of microphone and my modulation.

It's a thought, isn't it?
So many folks are shaking in their boots when they have presentations to give.Following Amazing's comments, they hated me for the first few couple of years taking the TMS, as I really dug deep to make them work on something and lift their game. After a while they started to appreciate it, though.
Darn - maybe that should be one of my regrets...
Now the voice quality is the prime things for assembly speakers.
Hypnotic, isn't it? -

What's the one thing you miss about the WTS?
by Naeblis inthere are times when ilook back fondly on my days in the witnesses, especially when i think on the congregation get togethers we would have every once in awhile (not too often) people from our hall and sometimes others would show up (not too many) and good times were had by all.
this is how the schedule usually went.. 8pm: arrive at the community centre.
8:05pm: scope the room.

Doughnuts at assemblies, before they took even that small pleasure away.
And...
...and......well, I guess that's it!

1. Church
2. Conversion
3. Affirmation of Faith
4. Pragmatism1. Church
Much of the problem and misunderstanding here, I believe, is the dual use of the word "church".
Are we talking church building including local congregation of members and adherants, or the Universal church (body of Christ)? It becomes a natural thing for a Christian to seek out his brethren.
My point of contention is (and always has been) that this will not always include a church building. Not all will accept the kind of congregation structure that we adhere to.2. Conversion
I wrote: "Darn, I stayed in the JW's for six months. Does that mean I wasn't converted???"
You wrote: "No, not necessarily. You could still be converted but just disobedient. Religions like JW’s or Romanism is no place for the Christian. Those who are converted to Christ in the JW religion have a moral obligation and must leave the Watchtower immediately. "Nice of you to condescend to agreeing that I may have been converted!
I would suggest that a Christian will not necessarily "leave the Watchtower immediately".
As we previously considered, when discussing the Trinity, there is a progressive enlightenment.
Again you are being dogmatic, yet each ones path is different, as is each one's mode of conversion.
It's not disobedience until you go against the express revelation of the Lord.3. Affirmation of Faith
My comments about your posted archaic affirmation of faith, were directed at the language used on this forum. I made an attempt to simplify it because as it stood, with no supporting explanation, few would agree to such direct oaths. As for myself, I can interpret them in such a way as to find them agreeable, as I can with the WCF. I don't feel that I need to further elaborate, as my position regarding that document has been made manifestly clear.
4. Pragmatism
I can't help but be pragmatic, rather than dogmatic.
I can't help but use life's experience to relate my beliefs to the world about me.
I can't help but have Christ-like compassion for others, rather than bludgeon them.
I can't help but use my own words, instead of mimic the words of others.
I believe that anecdotes are, by definition, a very effective means of communication. You see, in my case it's cardial, not just cerebral.
In my case my reliance in on the Lord, not men.Evangelism is a call, not something that you can learn from a book.
I should also warn you that Simon might only tolerate so much of your book advertising (even if I do like some of your selection, and own a few).

Clash:
First things first, as I stated many posts back, I feel that I am under no compulsion to answer all your questions, since you saw no need to answer mine. Not only do you appear to be bludgeoning me and others, are you now implying a threat?
Your comments, about refering this thread, do little to enhance your reputation as a public debater par excellance.
Who is really falling behind the game here?My reason for suggesting transfering this thread was to allow it to be found more easily. It fell far down the list of "Friends" topics many days ago.
If it were in "Belief's" it would be more easily found.
This wouldn't affect anyones bookmarks, nor its place in the "Active" list.
I actually suggested this to Simon back in March:

A question about "being chosen"
by ballistic ini was pondering as i came across the phrase "3rd generation witness", and wondered what are the chances of god choosing so many people from one family to be his "special people".
if you think about it, there are only 6 million witnesses and 6.3 billion people worldwide, and yet god sees the right heart condition in all of the smith family, in fact all 4 generations of the smith family from crawley, england.. there surely can only be one of several reasons for this; either it is an amazing coincidence (which i think we can rule out), or people are genetically pre-disposed to being acceptable to god, or your up-bringing and education can change the person's "heart".. i think most witnesses if you ask them, would accept that it is the indoctrination from a young age that is the reason for whole families being chosen by god, but there is a problem with this.. firstly, people do not choose where they are born, whether they are born into a witness family and are likely to get this extra special training or whether they are one of the billions who live in china and have never seen a bible, let alone heard of the jehovah's witnesses.
surely if god is a fair god and believes in justice, every person would receive the same chance of survival, and the pattern of chosen people would, in fact, turn out to be a peppering of people from across society with similar distribution in each country and not large clusters within the same families in predominantly christain countries.. i think the society understand this problem and it shows in the way they over-emphasise the number of countries they are present in, counting small island chains as "countries" with just one or two special pioneers in an effort to boost the appearance of "world wide" activity.. a second question popped into my head (as they do) with regard to this.

Reminds me of Wt reasoning about religion being a chance of birth.
I seem to remember they used it as a means to encourage others to look at their religion, rather than just accepting the one they were born into.
I don't think they like that reasoning being applied to the other foot.

I'm really looking forward to New Jerusalem coming down out of heaven.
And while you're at it, maybe it would be a good idea to revisit those texts about the "new heavens and the new earth" to see what events accompany them. Are we thinking for ourselves, yet?
