the forerunner of the united nations was the league of nations, an organization conceived in similar circumstances during the first world war, and established in 1919 under the treaty of versailles "to promote international cooperation and to achieve peace and security.
" the international labour organization was also created under the treaty of versailles as an affiliated agency of the league.
On the same text, who is the "them" upon whom instant destruction is pronounced, in 1 Thess.5:3?
Late last year I was discussing this with a few other elders. There have been a few flip-flops on this subject, even in the last couple of years years. Does Babylon the Great get destroyed, heralding peace, which results in instant destruction upon the soothsayers? Otherwise, is it Babylon the Great that is destroyed during a suggested peacetime? Or is it something else entirely?
Prior to 1999, the following are interesting variations:
Awake 8 Jul 96 p.25 UN, propogandists, Pope, et al
Wt 1 Sep 91 p.5 Wicked, esp. Super powers incl those seeing 1914
Wt 1 Jun 91 p.18 Christendom

there was never a time in my life when i felt more alone than when the first wife moved out, unannounced.
i came home from work one day and the house was practically empty and she hadn't said a single word.
it was a betrayal/disappointment/disloyalty that, truth be told, i still have not recovered from and probably never will.
TJ:
not perpetuate their horrors on others
So very true. And to add another note, to speak out when we see other replicating the horror.
The church that I attend had a history of legalism and being "staunch", though not quite in the category of "fundamentalist" in the sense that I see it used on the board. I can't help but speak out when I see individuals impinging on others Christian Liberty. On that score "In Search of Christian Freedom" is a great read.
i'm a newbie here, but i used to post a lot over at beyond jws when xena was there, damn, several months ago.
i would go into chat and talk about old times and be hurt and a little concerned because xenawarrior didn't remember the stuff i was talking about.
but, she was always kind to me.. jim tx told me tonight that xena (from texas), who used to be xenawarriorprincess is now xena.
Ouch!!!!!!!

"Run awaaaaaaay!!!"
i was just sitting here, reflecting on my day.
the last month has basically been pretty crappy for me and a rollercoaster of emotions.
i knew i was in bad shape when my landlord told me i could have absolutely no pets in my apartment.
This thread is so like "The Sound of Music".
...these are just some of my favourite things...
A cuddle, or failing that, chocolate
Darn, some days I'd give my left arm even for a genuine smile from a loved one...
...now I'm getting morose again..
...why did you have to add "no boobies"???

i don't see why we should allow such blatant discrimination on the board as to allow a thread "for women" only, asking their favorite men's cologne.
so guys and blokes, so that we can participate, how's about declaring before these ladies your favorite cologne/after shave?
mine's tuscany.
Ozzie:
You mean you took notice of that "Ladies" comment in the thread title?
Since when did that ever mean anything?
just a bit of fluff...what's your favourite men's cologne or women's perfume scent?.
have you ever got a gentle wiff of a really nice cologne and wanted to ask the owner what the name of it is??
if its a woman i will ask, only because i want to go out and buy some.
Can you get better than soap and leather?
Personally I think it's easy to overdo a scent - an understatement is far better.
I run with:
Givenchy - Gentleman (although there's a new Givenchy out that is quite nice)
Chanel - Antaeus (a little musky)
Yves Saint Laurent - Jazz (not Live Jazz)
Body chemistry is vital, though, because it can completely change the tones, as I found out with Live Jazz.
For women's perfumes, I like quite a range, and different ones evoke different memories (often of past girlfriends ).
I quite like Giorgio Armani - Gio, which is fruity

Well, that was unexpected, and unravelled a whole ball of emotions that I hadn't expected!
Your last paragraph was sagely.
Music surely has to be the most powerful medium in the world.
Thanks for sharing, TJ.
hi guys,.
this is a question for those that have dissasociated yourselves, and it might seem really stupid.. a while back i had a conversation with my parents in which i claimed that if i had ever been baptised i would have certainly dissasociated myself.
i asked whether or not they would still have contact with me.. they said yes, but would avoid having me at family gatherings.. i was not happy with this, but at least it was'nt as bad as shunning.. despite my standing now, my parents are now starting to get over it, and have been great, i cannot imagine my parents shunning me, despite anything i am still their daughter.
In my own case I wanted to tell those that I felt closest to (my family, friends, and congregation members) that I loved them, but that I had to leave for serious reasons.
DA'ing publically seemed the only way to do this, even though I knew that whichever method I used it would be construed as insincere and a rejection of them personally.
The system has been set up so that the title of "Bird-fodder" sticks, whatever method you use, and to time indefinite.
But then, shunning can also occur even if you don't take one of the titles.
