Man not supposed to live forever.

SALVATION MEANS: GOD is CORRUPT!

Terry:And yet, for all that, you would likely still hold up a human parent as being more humane than the picture of "God" that you've painted for yourself. What is the touchstone for that belief? True justice tempered with a smattering of mercy? What makes aperfect parent in your eyes?

I think the reductionism is evidenced more in sidetracking genuine responses into the subject of "salvation". For most folks this is not a day to day concern, regardless of beliefs.
For the majority of Christians its about "relationship". Now that is a subject worthy of discussion, complete with all the messy, chaotic, personal values that it holds to each and every subjectively experienced nuance that it brings to bear on the topic...
Would you call a parent "corrupt" just because they are idiosyncratic from your perspective? Does "God" have to fit some kind of prescribed version of "perfection" wherein He is straitjacketed from performing His version of the very human gifts of mercy, grace, or substitutory penance? If we are allegedly made in God's image, or Him in ours, where is the difficulty in this quality being extended to His toolset? It seems to be a very small and reductionist worldview (or should that be "theology" or God-view?) that doesn't permit this.
Just a few supplimentary questions

ETERNITY BEFORE CREATION.....THE NON-EXISTENCE.....of GOD!
by Terry inbefore god began creating.......he wasn't a creator.. before god began creating.....there was nothing......and therefore nothing to know.. before god began creating...there was nothing and nothing to know....and therefore nothing to love.. before god began creating...he was alone with nothing to distinguish him from nothingness except--what?
his mind?
filled with what, actually?.

I'm just responding to the initial post with these comments...
From a "time-based" perspective I accept that before God started creating He couldn't be a creator, but is that the single defining quality that makes Him "God", or is it not rather simply a matter of "substance" or being made of "god-stuff"?
BEFORE God began creating...there was nothing and nothing to know....and therefore nothing to LOVE.
This would be one reason why some choose to beleive that the minimum number of persons needed to make a godhead would be three. It would take one to give, one to receive and one to observe and objectify so that the statement could be made "God is love". Again I'm applying the term "God" to refer to the substance rather than the individual person[s].
Of course if you're taking the WTS viewpoint that there is only one person called "God" and that person just happens to live an awfully long time then all the original premises of this thread bear weight.

WHY BARB DID WHAT SHE DID.
by seven006 ini posted this explanation on my old buddy outlaws thread, barbara read it, sent me a pm, and asked me to post this all over the internet because she wanted people to know why she produced the cd.
ya,.. sure barb, like little bit of flattery will get me to become a cut and paste monkey..again.
not this time you evil breaker of watchtower balls.

Having met Barb a few years ago I have to concur that there's not a vindictive bone in her body. She's astute and intelligent, which makes for a dangerous combination with the knowlege she has of the internal workings of the WTS. I, for one, am really pleased that she's making available the information she has in such an appropriate manner.
Go Barb! And great to see you've not curled yer toes up yet, Dave. The scotch makes all the difference

Active Elders who post on JWD
by Honesty indoes your conscience torment you knowing that you are misleading the flock of god as you continue teaching them the heresies of the watchtower society?.
why are you staying in the organization and posting here at the same time?.
do you really believe that you can help your families to reject the watchtower society while remaining an elder and visibly appearing to support their lies and false teachings?.

When I first started posting here I was an active Elder. I had just come to the realisation that I would need to leave the WTS but had no plan and very little information. It got harder and harder to give talks and my "Ministry" became more and more about encouraging householders than placing literature, hence I spent far more time on my own (which as a Book Study Conductor wasn't that hard to arrange).
I have nothing but sympathy for those who tread the [sharp] wire of trying to keep their family together and perhaps influence them. I certainly found myself unable to do it, which is why I DAed less than six months later...

I think its one of my all time favourites, too. I still struggle to get the strumming just right, but it sounds great on an eight string mandolin!

IMHO the greatest challenge to playing an instrument is the timing, be it strumming or bowing.
- Guitar: Streets of London - Sinead O'Connor version
- Mandolin: Somewhere Over the Rainbow - Israel Kamakawiwo 'Ole
- Violin: Dirty old Town - Pogues

Shammatta"Disfellowshipping" Jewish Style
by AuldSoul inmatthew 24:48-51 48 but if ever that evil slave should say in his heart, "my master is delaying," and should start to beat his fellow slaves and should eat and drink with the confirmed drunkards, the master of that slave will come on a day that he does not expect and in an hour that he does not know, and will punish him with the greatest severity and will assign him his part with the hypocrites.
there is where [his] weeping and the gnashing of [his] teeth will be.. insight on the scriptures, volume 1, p. 787, expelling.
finally, there was shammatta, an entire cutting off from the congregation.

My experience was "the smaller the man, the bigger the chip on their shoulder". Some guys revelled in being an Elder etc., perhaps because it gave them an authority trip that they couldn't find elsewhere in life.
I can only imagine how this influenced their judicial decisions. Often emotion got completely in the way of logic and if there was a perceived slight (especially if you hadn't followed their counsel to the letter) you were on a fast road to DFing. Some were sticklers for the rulebook, some would bend it to their own particular preference (for or against an individual), some would pretty much throw it out of the window altogether...
