Has the requirements to be a GB member changed over the last 20 years. I was last a JW in the 80's and at that time I thought you had to be able to remember 1914? Is my memory bad or was this a doctrine change?

Trying to make sure this works with Google Chrome. thanks for the tips. My nephew is at Bethel and he loves it. Plans on staying forever. What happens after Bethel, how long can an unskilled 19 year old work there?

How to question their beliefs
by Scarlouie ini questioned my mom today about beth sarim.
she of course had never heard of it, even after 40 years as a jw.
neither of my sisters have every heard of the 1976 predictions either, they are both born in with elders as husbands.

Good points and I use these techniques all the time professionally. But when it is personal, my family. I let my emotions get the better of me. I am very good at ignoring it and pretending that we do not have this huge wall of difference between us. But when I try to discuss it, 40 years of frustration comes out all at once. I am sure after the first couple of facts I threw at her, she quit listening.
Thanks for the tips

I questioned my Mom today about Beth Sarim. She of course had never heard of it, even after 40 years as a JW. Neither of my sisters have every heard of the 1976 predictions either, they are both born in with elders as husbands. I challenged my Mom with this lack of knowledge about their religeon, her only comments is why should they focus on past mistakes. When I challenge the current end of days doctrine and this generation, she tried to convince me that I must have misunderstood as a child and that the end was just "soon" and that no one had predicted the generation / 1914. When I finally convinced her this contradicts what she taught me for 20 years, she explained that it was just a mistake and that "new light" would be brought forth at the end with "new understanding". How can you compete with this? How can I possible convice her to think? I spent more time researching a car purchase than she will ever spend researching the validy of her own religeon.
Frustrated.

Who converts and Why? SURVEY - Please contribute
by Murray Smith ini've read some random articles of late and have found a recurring factor which could well be answered effectively by many of the posters here.
basically the notion relates to what makes one vulnerable to indoctrination into a high-control religious cult and goes lke this .
while most, if not all humans seek group approval and association to some degree .

You can blame everything on your parents, my Mom was and is a great person in everyway except for the control this organization has over her. I was not raised "normal", but it has helped make me into the man I am, good and bad. I can see no common personality traits in the JW that I know, other than the same one that most relgeous people have. The need to have answers to quesitons that do not have to be asked. They just can't be comfortable that things just are and you do not have to know all the answers.

A bad memory of the Ark?
by Scarlouie ini have a lingering memory of an wt article about the ark being found and measured, this read as fact and not a working theory or a possibility.
i was just a kid when i read it, but it stayed with me until i was a young adult and discovered that it was not true.
does anyone else remember this article, or is this just a confused memory from my cracked youth?.

Unfortuately for me, I was led to believe this was a fact, proof that it was all real. This shaped me spiritually as a young person and took my ability to decide if I had faith, there was no more grey area. It was black and white, the ark had been found and the measuremetns matched the documentation in the Bible. Imagine my confusion when I discovered the history channel, went to college, etc.
