Any actual Witnesses here?

i found this site hoping to read topics submitted by jw's so i could learn more, but it just seems to be everyone else here except them.

just about every topic and member is just bashing jw's and their teachings.

this site should be renamed "jwbashertrolls.net".

If that is all it is, then no problem. But, Watchtower claims it has the truth alone. Do you realise how small, petty, and unjust that would make out God to be, to only select a few people to be able to interpret this special knowledge of salvation?

And I'm still waiting for someone to tell me which is the true religion I should join and why. -trthskr

You're just waiting for someone to give you the answers. If you stick around, you can see why the Watchtower isn't the true religion. You can then continue on your journey and perhaps begin to see reality in a whole other light.

You know what I find interesting, trthskr? Russell began his investigation of the Bible in part because he started with the premise that Hell was a punishment a loving God could not serve. I ask you, do you believe God is anymore just or loving for destroying 99.9% of the world's population because they don't believe the JW's? Mind you, baptised JW's comprise .01% of the world's population. So even you aren't guaranteed salvation. Go figure...

Are there ANY Bible prophecies that indisputably came true?

i mean a prophecy made before the event, with specific detail that can be verified in history books.

nothing vague like 'reports of wars'.. .

i am going to put together a page of short experiences of how shunning has affected exjws.

you do not have to be disfellowshipped, even if you were shunned after being marked or after fading.

all comments are welcome, such as who shunned you, how long since family have spoken to you, what your situation is, why you are being shunned and how it has made you feel.

I DA'ed not to long ago, as some of you already know. In the situation I was/am, it was the biggest blessing/mistake of my life. My mother told me the day I announced my decision to her that she would rather die than know my decision. I also work with a few JW's, and 2/3 are cool and kept speaking to me, but the third completely ignored me the first couple of weeks. It was a really tense, difficult atmosphere to work with. I know the person was hurt from the heart and I didn't know that person would take it so hard. The JW even cried on a couple of occasions.

Needless to say, this was very difficult to deal with and I didn't know what to think or what to do. I was filled with rage and anger at this religion and even at its people. I'm pretty sure that during those months, I endured so much stress and heartache, that it affected my health. I had done nothing wrong, all I did was decide to leave a religion I no longer believed and I was considered dead to all for such. It was pretty bad too, that a lot of JW's come to where I work, although I must say a few have been at least nominally nice. The ones I knew more personally took my decision to heart and would not even look at me, or if I had to deal with them, they would be strictly work-related talk.

Fastforward a couple of months later, I decide to go back because I was given this ultimatum, go back or leave your single mother. I won't go into further detail of who gave the ultimatum or the situation that led to it, but at the end of the day, it was the best thing for me. My mother is now happy again even though I will never believe in this again, and all I have to do for now is attend meetings. I am trying to hold back getting reinstated as long as I possibly can. That way I don't have to go preaching or study for meetings. My co-worker is still distant, but I am beginning to cope with that because 2/3 ain't bad. Obviously, I am not saying I don't wish for another alternative. If I could have my mother and leave the religion, I would, but also given financial circumstances for both, parting ways is not an option.

i am starting this thread because so many others have taken such interesting turns and, on some ocassions, been threadjacked, sometimes by me.

i hesitate to post it in "personal experiences" because it is most certainly not a personal experience, but i don't know what would be a better area.. the purpose here is to clear up a lot of confusion about what science and the scientific method are and are not.

science is a method for investigating observations, gaining knowledge, correcting knowledge.

In other words, science is a healthy dose of skepticism that allows us to test the universe for what it really is and debunk false commonly held beliefs.

I also wanted to add this video, because this is precisely what the WT discourages, especially in assemblies. I also wanted to cite something that jwfacts used to have on his website, I believe it was an Awake! that said, "Are we willing to examine evidence that challenges our most cherished beliefs and adjust our beliefs accordingly?", or something to that effect.

What are the worst pictures in My Book of Bible Stories?

a few comments from muddy waters and mummatron on another thread peaked my curiosity and led me to revisit some of the illustrations in the my book of bible stories.

i don't appear to have my old copy from when i was a child (thankfully), so i checked out the images over on watchtower.org where the entire book can be read online.

the images below are taken from what is displayed on that website, although it wouldn't surprise me if there are equally awful images that haven't been used.. so which of the images below are the most grotesque and inappropriate for children?

Well aussie, kids nowadays have access to things horribly graphic; things like Saw, Texas Chainsaw Massacre, among others.

How much parents choose to disclose to kids is their own problem, and some see exposing kids to life's realities as a plus, as opposed to sheltering them in a little bubble.

Of course, Christians and JW's in general have a double standard, where they ward their kids of violent movies, yet have no problem teaching kids about the 10 plagues, or any of the other stories mentioned above.

To be honest, I viewed these stories like any other fantasy movie. God was always the Good Guy, Israel the chosen ppl, etc. You just grow out of it eventually, and learn to differentiate between fantasy and reality.

Because, I am random and anything is possible. I also wish I could be certain of my beliefs, or at least comfortable with them. I suppose I feel comfortable with deism. I also thirst for answers, and even though I recognize I am finite and must come to an end, I have an insatiable thirst for knowledge. I am foolishly ambitious.

Well, there is still the Big Bang. How did that come about? Was there anything before?

Cofty, how do you test for before the Big Bang, before the singularity?

Ah, mind you, if some causative agent made the universe, then it isn't in the universe, is it?

Cofty, do you believe in infinite regression, i.e. it is all ultimately infinite, as you go back, you keep going back? Or, do you believe in a beginning of sorts? It's all theory and conjecture at this point, because we have no way of knowing. We can't go further back than the Big Bang, and that's why we have imaginative theories like string theory and all of it's variants.

One of them proposes an infinite number of films (universes in different dimensions, parallel to each other) that vibrate and can excite the universe closest to it, causing a Big Bang. Where did these films come from, if they even exist?
